Jeep Avenger - Is the new Avenger a true Marvel?

  • Despite their sales, SUVs still have a social stigma attached to them, especially in more urban centric areas. So how can a brand such as Jeep, who only builds SUVs, appease those of us with a social conscience? The new Avenger is the company's first electric vehicle in their 80 year history, but can it appeal to Jeep's traditional buyers? Thankfully, we have a Jeep owner on the team, so it was off to Wiltshire for Bryan to drive the new Avenger to deliver his ever-critical verdict on the smallest, perhaps most radical Jeep ever built.

    If the Avenger is half as good as my Renegade Limited - I will definitely buy one.

    I think the design is OK being a "utility" vehicle so you would expect lots of plastic that can be easily cleaned but because of that I don't think their pricing is in anyway reasonable. It's just announced today the EV sales in the UK are down 11% and when you look at the pricing of EV's generally you can see why and in line with that the depreciation appears to get worse as the months go by. Also as the government has extended the date to 2035 for the end of petrol and deisel cars I think that is going to put more pressure on EV sales.

    Interesting if it comes to Australia since going off road is pretty common here, even a lot of carparks and access roads at holiday destinations aren't sealed.

    I was waiting for this review as love the looks of the Jeep and may be an ideal replacement for our e208 next year. 2 concerns I have are the pricing and size of the car. We find the e208 a little small for our needs (cramped in the back) so the Jeep may not be any better. Will look at one in the flesh soon but good to see a balanced review with pros and cons.

    Jeep has made full size trucks with rear wheel drive, not 4wd. But that was a loooong time ago.

    Characteristically thorough review with some creative drone footage. Lots of helpful detail on the car - I agree with others comments re lack of space and features in the back. Only thing I can think would improve the review would be more footage looking forward, preferably with instruments visible, rather than simply looking at you!

      Jeep. The Mokka is a good car, but the Jeep is better. More character and better mannerisms on road. Great value too.

    • @AutoEV

      AWD one coming soon. And Jeep have done 2WD only before, but I do take your point. The issue is, the extra hardware would never be needed for 90% of the Avenger customers, so why saddle the car with the extra weight and complexity that will only hinder the range?

    Good review as ever, but the vehicle suffers from being another Stellantis car based on their other stuff, different suit same filling and far too expensive. I’m trying a BYD Dolphin this week as a possible replacement for out eNiro.

    What is a proper Jeep?
    Well all "jeep" and the likes besides the originals they spon off are ridiculous cars, used in urban environments.
    So this is a bit smarter for that.

    Carwow's review car (video got taken down, wonder why...) had issues throughout the review. brake system failed 4 times in a short drive. doesn't seem the most reliable car, also looks insanely cheap and tacky inside. Why buy this instead of the 2008 it's based on? that looks better in every single way.
    I am after an electric car, this is certainly not on the list.

    • @AutoEV
      @AutoEV  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Carwow’s video was removed because they broke the press embargo (which was this morning at 8am), so it had nothing to do with the warning lights he got. And to be fair, Matt wouldn’t have carried on driving it if there was a concerned reliability issue. I’m sure he made a call to Jeep’s PR team and then played it up.
      Now, let me address reliability. I can speak from my own Jeep experience, and as you know I’ve owned more than one. I’ve only ever had two issues, both of which were recalls on my first Grand Cherokee. A faulty headlight, and a software update to the gearbox. Other than that they’ve been as tough as boots, and I really put mine through the mill.
      The interior plastics aren’t great, but then they never have been in any Jeep. It is a criticism I have of the Avenger, but in fairness, not many Stellantis cars have good quality plastics. I’d urge you to at least drive it. It’s a really good little car. Might not be for you, but don’t rule it out.
      Oh, and I’ll be driving the new e2008 in a few weeks, so you might want to hang around for that one.

      It was second on my shortlist, but the smart #1 has won. The cheap black insides put me off too much. Also the lack of power reported earlier was a concern. X

    • @AutoEV
      @AutoEV  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@michaelenglund it’s not just because of a dog to be fair! It’s our lifestyle and how we use our car. I have had smaller SUVs (LR Freelander and Volvo XC60) but the Grand Cherokee is the size that suits our lifestyle. I don’t need the 7 seats of a LR Discovery or Volvo XC90, and we do also have a MINI for local running. Hence why I said the Avenger would be a great second car to our GC.
