6:12 HOW TO FIX SGC
almost every SGC 9.5 / 10 slab I've ever cracked has had massive surface issues and would be a PSA8 or worse. it doesn't seem like there's much integrity with SGC's grading. but in defense of SGC I have got PSA10s on dented up cards I've submitted to PSA too.
All of them. Not making it up
Totally agree, most importantly it would definitely attract more buyers at $10-12 and shorter turnaround time.
Yeah for sure
Congtas on 5k subs! Here's to 500k.
Thank you
You look really comfortable in front of the white board your videos flow much better than they did before.keep it up your content is hilariously sarcastic and entertaining 🤣😂🤣🤣
Thank you so much
When their only selling point is their turnaround time, and I'm currently on day 15 of a 5-10 day turnaround, it doesn't reflect well on them.
I had the same experience. I just got back into the hobby and sent an order to PSA and SGC at the same time and PSA only took 2 weeks longer. PSA said in an interview this week their goal was to be under 30 days.
For real
That’s interesting
Thanks for the content as always
Of course thank you
People hated that 1-100 grading scale it was too confusing. Then BGS passed them. They became irrelevant until around the pandemic and their turnarounds are slower than PSA for quite a few people now
We will see how it all plays out
Great content per usual.
Thank you
Only done a few orders at PSA but these are the dates order arrived - date complete: 3/4/24:4/3/24; 3/26/24:4/11/24; 3/27/24:in assembly; 3/25/24:in assembly. So much better than their advertised 50 business days.
Better than advertised but it has slowed
My man!!
Cleanest, easiest to read whiteboard ever!!!! 🤣😎
Thank you
The silly looking construction paper they put around the card is what turned me off about SGC.
Yup, keep saying it. The shit holding frame on SGC Cards is it's own worst enemy. Plus; that ink jet printer label is for the birds, though the grading is accurate.
Same to me
It’s terrible
Yep PSA looks awesome with the hospital band look
@Eliteco3 I really like PSAs slabs
You make good points - particularly - I dislike the "Tuxedo" slab for modern cards specifically and do like the 100 point scale. Thanks for the presentation.
Yeah for sure. Looks like we agree
I haven't sent to SGC in a few months but the turnaround then was within two weeks. If they're up to 4-6 weeks there must be some backlog! Appreciate your takes as always 🤘
Interesting. Appreciate you as well
Great video and points. I haven’t used sgc in a minute, the biggest reason I was using them was because of psa previous outrageous return times, sgc would routinely return cards in 2 weeks and I could always get someone on the phone. I ultimately stopped grading with them for the most part because psa outsells them by a huge margin. I think they’re good for possible crossovers (crack and submit) when psa gives an absurd lowball (have gone psa 6 to sgc 9)
Yeah for sure. Good points you make also
I think scg should make a slab for modern cards tbh
That’s actually a really good idea. Not sure if it’s original or if you got it from somewhere. If SGC were to give you the option of a different slab for modern or to keep tuxedo slab, that would really help. And then keep tuxedo slabs for vintage of course
Total revamp is needed
Yeah for sure
Made some great points as always man. I love the look of SGC slabs on vintage cards, for some reason they look terrible and outdated with modern cards.
I can see and agree with that
Eventually they will officially merge these brands. They bought SGC to get the vintage cards that have had high sales on PSAs pop report.
These companies will be synonymous. My guess is the SGC slab becomes SGC/PSA or possibly even becomes PSA Vintage.
We will see should be interesting
I just joined your bandwagon my man. Bought a bunch of Caleb Williams at peak. I'm going to make hand over fist on this deal 💸 🤑 💲 💵 💰
Great to hear man
cut the crap because ain't no one stupid enough to buy at peak
@@UncleHarold Why don't you take a long walk off of a short pier tough guy. I was talking to SVU, not U.
Great ideas, I'm surprised one of the grading companies hasn't offered you a job.
I'm curious, without considering resale values what is your favorite grading company. I know you only submit to PSA, so maybe what slabs do you like the most?
Based on look and feel I like the CGC slabs best
I like CGC a lot but probably PSA. Thank you: don’t think any company ever would touch me
I used to grade exclusively with BGS but eventually moved towards SGC during the COVID/hobby boom. SGC was decent in the beginning but my last order I had to send half my cards back because of large amounts of dust and fingerprints all over my cards. I also want true grades on my cards and not a bunch of 10s to make me feel better. Give me a 9 if I deserve it and move on, I know what I am sending in and what it should get.
Yeah for sure, whatever works for you
5:03 That's actually pretty good 5-10 days. I wouldn't use them but good value, quick.
Yeah for sure. Thank you
I liked the 1-100 Scale and yes, it would be unique and could give them that sort of leverage. Also, SGC I value the same as PSA.. for Vintage. But for modern, they're not my 'go to.'
Same here. Have to be unique
You make really good points. I think SGC grades centering harder than PSA but easier than PSA on surface issues. Strange that this happens. Some cards look great with that black border and others look cringy. I think SGC graded cards with white boarders look best. I will try SGC for my vintage. Have you heard about PSA including grader notes? I guess they want to try it first with express then all after that rollout. What are your thoughts on grader notes? Thanks for another great video!
Yeah for sure easier on everything else. I think they all look cringey. Have not. Where can I look into it
@@SCVSportsCards it was in an interview with Geoff Wilson on TH-cam. I didn’t see it but Ziggy commented on it and said it was in that recent video.
I believe SGC gives a lot of 10s on autos because they grade based on if it's readable and not faded, just my guess. As for the slabs they should keep the thickness and trim down the length and width to a PSA slab. They could do without the black background but that's not too big of a deal. They do need to put a QR code on the back of the slab like PSA does. Overall SGC is good.
I don’t think that’s how it should be but I guess it makes sense
SGC should do a 30 year rule, any card that's 30 years or older should get graded. I know Collectors bought them but if they use SGC as their vintage and oddball submission that could work for them, use PSA for modern and ultramodern and SCG for vintage and nonsport items. I think Beckett had this type of system with BVG but when is the last time someone send vintage cards (pre-war to early 80s before junk wax came to be) to Beckett. Thats my two cents about how SCG should focus now that theyre under the Collectors umbrella.
Yeah for sure. Interesting idea
Scv did you watch or listen to the interview of Geoff Wilson and PSA CEO? Thoughts?
I thought that was a great video for PSA
I’ll get in a q and a
I like the black tux look for the vintage but hate it on the modern cards. I also don't like the cheap looking and feeling case. They also need some security features on the labels.
I don’t like it at all
Couple things:
It’s not a bad thing to suggest ways to change the status quo. The positivity crowd doesn’t understand this.
Good suggestions on how to improve-100 point scale, vintage only, cheaper grading rates. Upcharge system prob needs fixing.
Only reason people use SGC for modern cards has been quick turnaround times to beat people to market. With that falling apart not as much desire to use them.
Yeah for sure. Never know what can happen. Appreciate you
Can someone explain in the most basic logical terms why there are up charges AT ALL? Why can we not just get a flat rate?
I’ll get it in a q and a
13.99 w no up-charges and go AI only imo for sgc and get them back in 4 weeks
Yeah I mean fall ask
SCV FOR SGC CEO!
If they wanted to do something that would be a smart idea
If sgc dropped to 7 or 8 dollars I would grade a few cards
I would need more to change but I’m sure many would
Hey SVC love the info. Thoughts on scammers on eBay. I had a guy ask for a refund on eBay envelope 2 weeks after I sent and it shows in transit. Check his feedback and all comments are the same. I blocked all the users that left the same feedback. Some of the users were already banned. Can you share a list of scammers to block? Update dude used international forwarding to change the destination and delay the shipment. Won my appeal.
Will get in Q and a
SGC definitely needs to revamp their slab design. They could keep the same footprint and keep a general "tuxedo" look - but the fonts, font sizes, and plastic materials all need to be changed/improved. The slabs look amateur and feel amateur in-hand. Slab needs to be slimmer, materials need to have a finer finish, the build/weld should be stronger, and I don't like the card grade font being 2x the font over everything else. I kinda like the PSA label with balanced font sizes (why should the grade be 2x more important than all the other info).
SGC grading price should be $12.99/per. Below $15 but not giving it away at $10 or less.
Completely agree with you total revamp needed
You didn't bring up the elephant in the room here, namely, that PSA will be calling their shots. All this might be moot in no time. Like how the UFC scrapped Pride, Strikeforce, and the WEC when then said that they were going to keep them going upon purchasing them, I would be surprised if SGC is around in a couple of years. That all said, I loved the 1 to 100 scale - in theory - and saw huge value in that as a collector. The trouble with that was that they didn't even do that right. When they compared the 1 to 100 to the 1 to 10 grade on the same label it made zero fucking sense. When does a "75" compare to a "6"? Wouldn't that be a "7.5" equivalent? Secondly, what was up with "98" grade? Why was that 2 points short of perfection? It seemed arbitrary and random to an already arbitrary and random process. Secondly, they didn't really use most of the 100 digits on the scale. Almost all the card i saw went, 10,20,30,40, 45, 50,55,60....and then to 98. I never recall seeing a "53" or a "71". Since they mostly used rounded numbers, it made sense that they just defaulted to the ten point scale. Yet, if they would have stood strong on solely using the 100 point scale they would have stood out and, more importantly, provided a service that people needed (assuming that they would have used all 100 numbers, which they did not.)
Agree with your input. Did you skip the first part ? That’s what I said, PSA may not want to progress these guys. Talked about it for the first minute
tag has the best looking slab and i dont even own one slab from them just seen them and think they are clean
Yeah they look pretty good
Sgc is superior for vintage, prefer psa for modern-ish but sgc is fine for early 2000s cards, I have zero tolerance for psa qualifiers (oc, mk, pd, mc)...give people a grade that includes those items. Sgc not using qualifiers is a huge positive....if they see trimming, min size issues or color added then they authenticate it, which is good.
Good take on them for sure
set registry is king
Never been big on it
The slab in hand is just terrible, but bottom line is I just don’t trust their grades. I like CSG, they have the clearest slab and it feels good in hand, grades seem fair on the few that I’ve cracked, they just can’t get any value traction.
I am a big CGC fan as well
I have some SGC grades, but I really don't like the blockieness of the slab. I don't care for the black either. TAG has the cleanest slabs, but I need their 1000 PT grade scale to be cheaper for me to send anymore to them. If TAG came down in pricing on the 1000 PT scale, I would be all over it for my PC cards, which I have A LOT of.
I don’t either they don’t feel good in hand
You know I am an sgc bitch from previous comments, I love their slabs. But they have no chance of survival. Their price is too close to psa, no specials and turnaround times have about doubled. Sad but true facts. Once Collectors bought them the 12-24 month life expectancy was enacted in my opinion.
Yeah for sure. Good non googly eyed take
sgc is on its way out though. It wouldnt make sense to rise it to the top
We will see they seem to have momentum
i can think of so many acronyms for SGC that would have my comment banned
Slanging goopy cards
It's only a 24 hour ban you will be good, fire away
Just a different view... You stated and showed that SGC 9/10 were grading about a PSA 8 at best. Also, if I'm hearing you right there are PSA 10 that are having issues and should be lower grade & PSA grading is like "spinning a wheel" currently.
With that said, who do we trust to give grade with most integrity?
What if you have a grading company that does multiple person check & visual aid of grade "picture".
Can’t trust anyone really
@@SCVSportsCards basically get the best price you can with showing pictures.
You should see HGA now 🤢 they recently got rid of subgrades and their "custom labels" are now $75 😂 they basically took away the things that their fans liked.
Yeah they aren’t worth my time covering
Sgc blows
I’m not a fan for sure
After almost 2 years of grading with them , setting up at shows their slabs provide 0 benefit dealers buyers pay raw prices on them. It's basically just a waste money. Unless it's vintage then your ok but honestly who's buying vintage 🤔 like 5% of the ppl at a show maybe
Crypto Bots trying to take over SCV comment section having a full 10+ comment thread between themselves smh lmfao
Yeah I saw that happens a lot
Welcome to the darkside lol
Not into it unless they fix a ton of
