Huge plus! 5) PSA - I think you are bang on with them, but one area I differ from you is that I don't like their simple design. It makes sense for people to understand what they're getting, but in terms of collectors wanting to display their cards those red generic labels just don't look as nice as BGS or SGC.
He mentioned the BGS labels are his favorite, meaning the PSA aren't as nice. There's just too many PSA fanboys out there he didn't want to make then mad😂 And the fact PSA is inconsistent with grades just shows how dumb people are who are collecting their slabs, because the grades in a sense don't mean anything
Hit everything on the nail about what I’ve been saying about CGC. They are the future of grading. PSA is outdated and really there is no rhyme or reason as to how they grade cards, it seems they grade cards based on how they’re feeling that day. CGC is doing everything right from their slabs to their grading. You earned yourself a subscribing friend!
Another great video, I’ve never considered CGC until now, I’m going to check them out. Also that 1st Bowman Mookie auto is a sweet card! Jealous over that one!
I am a BGS/BVG collector because they are the hardest graders and the cards are the most protected. I understand the re-sell value is terrible so i fill my PC with BGS/BVG and resell PSA slabs, hoping one day that the community will finally realize that the most important thing about collecting and grading is the condition of the card.
Insurance my A$$ PSA is just greedy. I sent in a lebron rookie at the $100 level and they still up charge me $300 bucks. We pay for a service it shouldn’t matter what the cards value is.
And it's inconsistent grading. Like there are companies out there that use computer generated grades. I've used TAG and it's cool to see the AI generated pictures and in depth grades to see what's actually wrong with the card, if I want to. PSA doesn't offer anything better than the other companies
I’d willingly pay more to know that someone with more experience will be grading it rather than a newbie if it were a big card. This is for many reasons. If u get an upcharge due to it getting a PSA 10 if you sub a huge card thru the $20 level, is that a bad thing? The card got the grade you wanted
To date I mostly keep my PC Cards raw that I buy raw and buy previously graded PSA when I want a slabbed card. On the resale front I have been using CGC and hoping they become more popular and respected in the industry for all the reasons that you mentioned. A very well run and well funded business and Top Dog in other grading categories.
Great video! I was really happy to see the love for CGC as you nailed it imo. I love them for PC as it's just cheaper to acquire. Idk if you mentioned but CGC grades are tough... which is a very good thing! The other end of that spectrum are those companies that give a 10 to everything. Credibility and validity are crucial in this market. Being part of an umbrella corporation is huge. Yeah....also agree that the slabs just look better. No doubt as they pop the best. I agree with your breakdown of the other companies. I would love to see HGA grow as they use computer technology with its grading. Tbh....as we progress in society...I can see this being the ultimate way to go because of its accuracy....I just don't think the public is ready yet. Great job! Thanks!
I'm an SGC fan. I just love the look of the cases. Black goes with everything. The only thing I'd like them to do is give a description of why a grade was given. They do not have to give subgrades, but a little explanation would be nice.
SGC is my go-to for vintage. COMC doesn't have the direct to SGC option yet, but assuming they do, I'll have a couple that I'm waiting to grade there. I also have a 57 topps Hank Aaron PSA 2 that I hope to crossover to them as well. The black borders just accent older paper cards much better. I also like the look of black and dark blue cards in the slab. If I wanted a modern card graded, I'd still prefer PSA, if their prices were actually affordable. Because they're not, I'd rather just put the card in a one-touch for similar protection with the same clear look of a PSA slab.
Great great video. I would love to see you send a submission to TAG and do a break down like this of your thoughts. Your thoughts on your cards being graded with them would be interesting.
Hey, Never saw a "Happy Halloween" banner before! The only reason I get cards graded, is because I plan to sell them, so, because of overall general liquidity and re-sale value, PSA. I do like Beckett slabs w sub-grades and label's better if everything else would be equal. Thanks!.
I think CSG/CGC is a top tier grader for quality, price and turnaround time. But they lag largely because most grade for the flip and CSG slabs unfortunately suffer unless its something special. So I agree 100%. just use them for you PC, maybe they will get the respect they deserve in a few years.
Appreciate your insights and comments. I hope each grading company will watch this and reply in comments. I agree on PSA points since I use them and none of the others.
PSA grading is all over the place with grading, but I love them if a modern card looks perfect. Bulk base cards get 10’s pretty easy and sell better than everything. SGC slabs are beautiful to me. I grade everything that has slight imperfections with them, PC Cards, 1/1 cards and new releases. Turn around time and customer service is the gold standard! BGS is great for well-centered cards with other flaws. Modern auto cards look great. My only complaint is how some autos 10 and others don’t. A lot of autos that 10 look worse than many that don’t grade. Turn around time is awful. If they fixed turn around time, they’d be right up there. Great piece as always, just my 2 cents
Cgc is the best all I use, i like how cgc n psa have a QR code on back that takes you to the pop report and the card cert number that way your 100% positive thats the card
CGC has my support for the next year at least thanks to a user friendly submission process, the registry is fun as a collector, and I do genuinely enjoy their new labels and slabs better than any other grader. If I get heavier into the hobby to include regular vending I’ll open up a pipeline to PSA as it’s just what the majority recognize for value vs market despite their grading inconsistencies.
Great video Scottie. Hard to argue with a lot of your points, but I have a few things to add. I think PSA because of its simplicity looks the best with paper products (plus they grade them so much easier). Until BGS gets into the 2020s, I really don't have a need for them. I grew up buying Beckett magazines (still get one monthly) so understand and respect the name, but they are so far behind technololgy wise than the other three. Plus, sorry, I can't stand the inner sleeve. It takes away the presentation of the card. Just like you, I am a huge fan of CGC. Probably my favorite, but they are the toughest to sell. Great for the PC. I also think that SGC and CGC look the best with modern colored cards. PSA doesn't always look good with the red label and the SGC tux as well as the clairity for the CGC label look much better. Don't forgot the turnaround times of SGC allow you to be first to the market in many cases and also not lose the value of a card sitting with PSA for 60-days. Keep the good stuff coming. Until next time....
The only negative to SGC, in my opinion, is the value of the card once graded. The fact that PSA still has a stranglehold on this area sucks because it does nothing but hurt the market. SGC has a better look, grading scale, customer service, and price point. BGS just dropped the ball incredibly and I think CGC was a little too late for sports cards, but I trust them more than PSA.
I agree with this completely. A lot of people don't seem to trust PSA's grading consistency and think the other companies do better on this...then why does PSA get so much more value after grading? I would rather buy gem mint in SGC or BGS any day than pay PSA prices for a card that isn't as accurate in grading. I collect cards, not grading slabs.

In a few years no one will trust any company that uses human grading. I think those cards will be devalued as it becomes more clear over time how flawed and inconsistent human grading is. If I am spending five figures on a card that I want to hold long term, I'd be so nervous about PSA or any of these other companies mentioned. You just can't trust the grades. If I'm spending money to hold long term, I'd want a TAG grade and the corresponding TAG report.
People have been saying this for 3 almost 4 years now since HGA came around, and in that time PSA’s market share has grown even more. I think we’re a long way out from having cards graded by technology. Additionally that tech is expensive and no used in any industries outside collectibles so the R&D cost just isn’t worth it for the big companies
@@benjaminberman3267 Like all technology advancements, it happens slow at first and then fast all of a sudden. All I'm saying is that I'd be nervous if a had a few hundred thousand in human-graded PSA slabs. Five years from now high end collectors won't trust those grades. They'll need to be re-graded with an automated system for more accurate results.
@donnielawson I agree w u but unfortunately many in cards today don't really care about the true card condition, just the number on the slab and the money it means.
Good luck selling any modern SGC slabs under $300 or so. I fell for one of their monthly specials and was thrilled when I got back mostly gem mint 10s. However I can’t give these things away. It’s way easier to sell a raw card than an SGC slab cause nobody wants these things.
Its remarkable what CGC has done in the past few years. Cementing themselves in the Big 4 of grading companies. By far the best slabs and label in the in the hobby...
I like SGC for different sized cards, such as postcards or mini because they all still have the black border that looks the same. There’s no upcharge on postcards like PSA. The others don’t do them. CGC I agree, the vast majority of my PC goes there. For about $10 a card, they have amazing slabs. I like the changes from CGC, but changing three slabs in such a short timeframe is crap
Has anybody ever compared sales values on same cards from each grading service. For example I am trying to understand that if a card comes back from scg at a 10 and the same card is graded 9 by PSA, what would the sale of each be. Would it be a comparable sales price? Like the PSA 9 sells for $100 and the SCG 10 sells for $100. The reason I am curious is because I am thinking that if PSA has a stricter grading scale and you get a lower grade than you would with scg or say beckett, then maybe the end result is the same based on a similar selling price? Does that make sense? I have never graded before so trying to justify if the PSA higher cost is worth it. Frankly I think if my card is not going to get a 10 it is not worth the extra cost for PSA.
I love cgc. Great value. Look wonderful. Also, anyone that spends more for a card because it’s in a psa slab, that’s on them. Buy the card, not the grade. And certainly not the slab.
The reason some bowman chrome autos are sleeved, some in regular slabs some in thick slabs, is because some bowman chrome serial numbered refractors and autos are slightly thicker than rest. Imagine trying to put a baseball card in a Pokémon sleeve. It will go in there, but you risk damaging the card. Same works with sealing slabs. You want the top piece to set on the inner frame plastic (border around the card) not the card itself. If the card is to thick for the slab, then you have the card sticking to front piece when the welding horn drops down and hits the case, then you end up with your card pressed against the plastic. Which if the card moved any during the ultrasonic weld, you might get a surface scuff or smudge.
You don’t have to prove the comment about inconsistent graders, PSA just admitted this; that s card could be graded a 7,8,or 9 depending on the grader! That must be fixed.
Inserting your card in a top loader without a sleeve is a big no-no and causes scratches, right? So how do PSA or SGC slabs not scratch cards? PSA in my opinion, is the worst of the 4 but somehow brings the most money. Grading is a scam.
I sent a single card to PSA and yesterday it moved to assembly after 3 weeks in grading. One card. Unfortunately PSA has me by the balls as I just don’t see the value in the other companies still.
Yeah I feel ya, I’m in the same boat unfortunately people like Joe from got baseball cards telling everyone to “just grade it” screws everyone else. Not ever card should be graded! It’s killing turn around times and creating a junk slab era
Would be nice if PSA had a 9.5 but at this point they should stick to what they do. The other companies are out to lunch with all the versions of perfect cards.
CGC is awesome LOVE the way they feel and look. To me PSA slabs feel like JUNK> I know they sell better but they are thinner and lighter than SGC. PSA is my least favorite slab.
@@doylee30 Your welcome, when you come back from the scuba trip and your SGC cards are damaged from air and moisture just know it could have been worse had you taken them with you.
That’s correct. And not that we plan to take/submerge our cards in a pool, but if water can get it, so can humidity. Over time that will ruin a card in certain climates
I like the CSG cases, but their labels remind me of a high school student writing a paper and comic sans. It does not look as “clean” as the other labels.
@@dcsoda1 my point is that SGC is probably a waste of your money. I’m just looking out for your wallet. Just store your nicer cards in cases if you plan to keep them for a personal collection. No need to spend all that money on grading. If you plan to sell, use PSA.

So a PSA 9 and a raw sell for the same and your saying it is better to have it as a PSA 9 because it will sell faster? Other than the fact that you just lost $18.99 to grade something that sells for the same graded or raw. Yeah super smart advice. At $18.99 per card (and you have to be a PSA club member or its $24.99 a card) there is zero point to grading anything worth less than $100. No more grading lower end rookies for your PC it costs more to grade the card than the card is worth.
Couldn't agree more with you on all points!
SGC is #1 by far in my opinion:)
You don’t have to prove the comment about inconsistent graders, PSA just admitted this; that s card could be graded a 7,8,or 9 depending on the grader! That must be fixed.
Is CSG and CGC basically the same company? I have quite a few CSG slabs & love them!
Anyone??
A lot of collectors are in too deep with PSA and have succumbed to the sunk cost fallacy, thus are very tolerant with the company's pricey flaws.
"Collectors", or, only those in it for the money?
Exactly and PSA know this. PSA knows they can keep being trash and this “community” will keep submitting. It’s pathetic.
Inserting your card in a top loader without a sleeve is a big no-no and causes scratches, right? So how do PSA or SGC slabs not scratch cards? PSA in my opinion, is the worst of the 4 but somehow brings the most money. Grading is a scam.
Thanks. Good comparisons.
The up charge has nothing to do with shipping insurance.
Greedy PSA
great points about CGC ... I am liking GMA labels
Sgc is .my favorite! Grades are great! Plus fast.....
Look around and do your homework.
Agreed. SGC resale is garbage
Resale won’t change until you take your balls back. This community empowers PSA and accept all the crap they do. Man up and make a change.
The change should be to Beckett or CGS or someone else. Not SGC
CGC is the long play - Market share will grow when they've been doing it as long as the others (sports cards)
I also have a dual grade card at psa with status "research and id" since 2 months or so. Please give a feedback when you hear from psa. Thanks
I think cgc does have the best slabs. I've used them for coins and comics and service is great
Sgc really needs to upgrade there slab and label it reminds me of gma.
The offcentered auto 10 tooen drives me crazy 🤦♂️ just glue the damn thing in there lmao.
Can you do one on the smaller grading companies? Right now if I see something not from the big 3. I turn away.
All the other "small" companies mostly suck, that's why
ISA is very good
@@gamerzeject ISA is very good
Would be nice if PSA had a 9.5 but at this point they should stick to what they do. The other companies are out to lunch with all the versions of perfect cards.
Psa downgraded 17 of my 28 crossovers of sgc 10s some 10 autos to 7s 8s 9s.....terrible
CGC is awesome LOVE the way they feel and look. To me PSA slabs feel like JUNK> I know they sell better but they are thinner and lighter than SGC. PSA is my least favorite slab.
Great video
If you want to “Make” the most money send your card to PSA. If you want to “Pay” the most money send it to PSA.
good stuff.
I took a psa card and submerged it in water for a day, the card was still dry. Try that in a SGC case.
That's great to know, thanks! I will make sure I only take my PSA slabs with me when I go scuba diving.
Psa is way to strict on grading! I see some 9s that used to grade as 10s!
😍
I just like the SGC slabs so much more and with the price/turnaround time I’m going to keep going with them for pretty much everything.
Good luck selling SGC if you decide to
@@gamerzeject Not something I’m super worried about lol. Hopefully people can start to realize how overrated PSA is.
SGC turns cards around fast and cheap for a reason. They have very little business compared to PSA. And there’s a reason for that
@@RWorfel1 and Beckett used to be the gold standard. What’s your point.
@@dcsoda1 my point is that SGC is probably a waste of your money. I’m just looking out for your wallet. Just store your nicer cards in cases if you plan to keep them for a personal collection. No need to spend all that money on grading. If you plan to sell, use PSA.
You definitely should have mentioned PSA outrageous upcharges vs other companies.. and the fact SGC runs 9-10 dollar hrading promos almost always
Yes but SGC is dirt cheap lately for a reason. Less and less people are subbing with them. The resale is really bad
@@RWorfel1 its not bad at all. I sell them frequently. Also they grade more cards monthly than every company besides PSA... that data is available monthly so im not sure what youre basing that claim off of.
@@bosoxbandit I’m basing the claim off of personal experience selling them locally at shows and online. 👍🏻
@@RWorfel1 how about less people subbing with them? They are the second most used sports card grading company and have been for awhile.
@@bosoxbanditthis wolf guy is just replying to every comment trashing sgc. I think he got bad grades and is salty.
stupid question....what's a PC Card?
Personal collection
My favorite slabs right now are
TAG
Beckett
Rare Edition
CGC
PSA
I'm just not a fan of SGC, to big and look cheap.
I really like to know why the cards grade the way they do.
Agreed. And SGC resale is just plain terrible lately
I like ISA grading
TAG better than all these
I’ll never grade with PSA again. By far the most inconsistent grading company out there. You’ll see what should be a PSA 8 or 9 get graded a 6 or 7
I am really rooting for TAG to take off. Their slabs are the best looking and love the detailed report that comes with the card. You know exactly why it got the grade it got.
Agreed especially for junk wax cards where's there's hundreds of thousands knowing no grade is identical
Agreed! I just sent a superfractor to TAG in their last drop. I love their glass look slabs. Definitely gonna make waves here soon. I believe they r the future
Its pretty funny that the card grading company has inconsistencies in their labels. its literally your job to know what good spacing looks like
Psa also takes forever and has lost multiple people's cards.
That's why their customer service and turnaround times are the worst in the market.
That's weird to hear, because this card show I was just at, many people were saying stuff like this about CGC. I heard some horror stories
I'm done sending vintage to PSA, they are the worst and claim everything is "altered" its such bullshit.. Literally cards I've pulled from boxes when i was a kid and saved all these years to only send out for them to tell me they're "altered" so garbage
SGC slabs feel cheap because they are cheap. The slabs are also not water resistant like the other big graders are.
With the sgc, define "vintage" lol
PSA sucks imo, the cost is ridiculous. I shouldn’t have to pay a 100 dollar annual membership to get a decent price on card grading let alone the insurance and everything else
Universal pricing will put all the grading companies all on the same level. It shouldn't matter who the grading company is.
Mookie Betts is a playoff choker
It has been two series (22 and 23 and 23 has been two games). The two previous years he was great and helped them win a world series. ALso, they were down 11 runs in the first game. He couldn't do anything about the fact the pitching was terrible.
@@scottiebcards2354 he wasn't good in the postseason with the Redsox either
@@scottiebcards2354he is 0 for 11 this post season.
IN OTHER WORDS PSA IS A GIANT RIP OFF SCAM OF A COMPANY THAT IF THEY BURNED TO THE GROUND I WOULD DO NOTHING LESS THAN CELEBRATE! PSA literally destroyed the hobby I grew up loving and turned it into a giant scam money grab. I hope they go out of business so badly and it is such a financial burden on all the scammers involved that they can never recover.
psa 8 and a raw card are equal. A raw card and a psa 9 are not equal. As a psa 9 is MINTTTTTTTTTTTT
Honestly PSA is overrated and they kinda suck. I found SGC to be fair and their customer service is on point.
Psa cant grade!!!
PSA is doo doo.
Psa is not valuable.....
Thats a joke!hate that psa dont have a 9.5
