    This is the first VW vehicle I ever bought. Also it's the first Base model vehicle I ever bought. Got mine yesterday,S model in dark grey color with the 6 speed manual transmission. Can't believe how wowed I am over this base S trim. Same in this video. Anyone currently car buying definitely put this on your test drive list. You won't be disappointed.

    Unlike virtually all other reviews, I found your review of the VW Jetta like a wholesome meal. Mainly reviewing the base model with glimpses of the upper trims gave me the most comprehensive picture. This review is the most informative one that I've watched. Thank you and I wish other reviewers would do the same for better inform the consumers.

    just bought a 2020 S model and its perfect and very well equipped, in fact this is one of the most equipped base models I have seen. Drives fantastic almost flat cornering very good power compared to a Civic with the standard 2.0 NA model this one is quicker. I am very happy with the car.

    I love my Jetta! The rear seat is wonderful for child seats and I don’t mind the loss in power because you honestly will not notice it because the flat torque curve. I find it a much better car then the Corolla.

    Just traded my higher trimmed 17 golf for this 19 Jetta with base trim. Pleasantly surprised on the ride an responsiveness of 1.4t engine. The longer wheelbase compared to the golf gives it a nice feel. The steering is a bit numb, but it does stay flat and composed through the corners. Overall this review is spot on.

      agreed. wife owns an '18 Golf that i have a couple thousand miles behind the wheel of. Test drove the new Jetta the other day. I had read reviews that said the Jetta was less "sporty" than the Golf. I walked away with the exact opposite opinion. It seemed more willing to drive in a spirited manner than the wife's car. And even though the 1.8t in the wife's Golf has more power, the 6speed Jetta vs 5speed Golf made all the difference. Also, her 5 speed is hard to drive smoothly. Taking off from stops and the 1-2 shift require thought and practice. the six in the jetta was a joy to drive, and easy to be smooth with. oh, and the clutch is very light, if that's your thing. the torsion beam rear seemed to make no negative difference except on one especially brutal pothole, that I'm pretty sure would have been a bit more controlled with the wife's Golf. Oh, and also the LED headlights, even on that base model Jetta, were EXCELLENT.

      I wanted a higher trim Jetta, but can't afford the GLI( I wanted the SE package). I bought the base S model because it's the only one (with the exception of the GLI) which is available with a manual transmission. As for your comment, I am VERY satisfied with the 2019 Jetta S! My only wish is that I could get some of the SE features...nicer interior and a moonroof with a six-speed

    Ive had my 2019 10 months now and have Zero complaints, I love the way it drives and handles, the mpgs are damn good Ive averaged 41 /43 mpg on the highway twice from syracuse to albany a bit above the posted speed limit both times lol , for a small motor it moves well enough and with the 6 speed shift its fun to drive. the trunk is huge too , the ride is quiet and well behaved,Ive got just under 7000 miles and did my first oil change myself at 5000 miles its not difficult! I guess if I could bitch about anything its the passenger seat,, its real low lol but i dont sit in it! all in all Ive owned alot of cars since 1985 and this is easily the best of all that i have had, and Ive had some really decent cars over the years!

    If you are thinking to buy a new VW JETTA 2019, think twice.
    I bought this car in May 2019. The 8 speed automatic transmission, beside making a grinding noise when is driving at a constant speed of 30 to 40 miles per hour (+/_ 1,200 RPM), make an annoying vibration. The service department and the VW representative said that the vibration and noise are normal. I think this is the most ridiculos answer that I ever heard from a car manufacturer.
    I when to different VW dealers and drove a brand new car and all have the same problem. Be careful when you test it, maybe you will not notice it at the beginning.
    Just type in Google "Jetta 2019 transmission problems" and you will see.
    Pd: This happens on roads not very steep as we have in florida.
    Thanks

    • @BabyBugBug
      @BabyBugBug 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jose Antonio Guerrero Freyre It’s the torque converter. There is nothing wrong with the transmission. It is purposefully designed this way because the car is made for economy. It is a minor annoyance but the car is fine.

    • @joeychitwood6004
      @joeychitwood6004 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No issues with my 8 speed auto - 2020 Jetta S. Yes, in normal mode it does make a little grinding sound at 1.5k RPM but it IS normal and it shifts SO smooth! Want to know how to eliminate the grinding sound???? Put it in ECO mode and you won't hear a thing. The sound does not effect performance. I have owned 3 Jetta's. This is by far the closest they made to an Audi besides the Mark 4 Jetta.

      @@Brian-jv8iy -- yeah, you're talking about the 2.0L version--that everyone hated because it was a step back into the '90's. Because the car was heavier and longer, you didn't have that zip/pep feeling like you did in the '95-98 MkIII versions. So, sorry Brian--this is a better S than it's predecessor.

    • @lego4virgo
      @lego4virgo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Brian-jv8iy The fact that you don't know what the S is pretty much explains why you thought that the car you described was a great deal. The S is the base VW model--in this case, for the Jetta. If you're talking the last re-design--which was the MkVI--the base engine for an S was the 2.0L model, the model you're referring to. This engine was a 'resurrection' of the engine that was found in the MkIII--and everyone hated it because it was cheap but made the car under-perform overwhelmingly. You see it as a good deal? Well, remember that old adage: You get what you pay for. And that $11K-priced Jetta didn't get you much when you started using it in the real world. Again, it was a fine engine for the MkIII, which was smaller and lighter than its successor.

    • @lego4virgo
      @lego4virgo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Brian-jv8iy With an engine and trans combination that made people shudder. You keep harping about 'features', but if the guts of the car are problematic, then you can stuff a turkey dinner in there and no one will want it after awhile. Again, those Jettas you marvel about had the 2.0L engine, that most people dumped after a year or so and either went with a 2.5L or the later 1.8t and 1.4t(also considered a 'dog' by some, but still good enough to move 4 people and cargo reasonably well).

    I prefer the external styling of the last generation better, and it had more leg room in the back seat. In the last few years it had an excellent choice of engines, the bottom one with 184 lbs of torque and 150hp with zero to 60 under 8 seconds plus 40mpg AND independent multi link rear suspension. Not a bad car at all, just cheap door panels and rather plain dash. I don’t like the new cars styling the shorter leg room in the back seat or the torsion beam rear suspension but the dash is better, interior nicer, and the engine is still basically the same. It’s a competitive product but overall I like the old one better.

    These “compact” sedans aren’t so compact anymore. If you take an Accord or a Camry of 10 years ago have the same length. I’d consider this Jetta over the Civic because it has a conventional transmission and not a CVT. If I want the manual though I would take the civic 1.5 turbo. I’ve seen these with automatic transmission with 5-6k miles in it for less than 16k $. Really good deal

    Unreliable. I bought it two months ago. Already the panel broke off and had to have it repaired. The brakes make this awful sound which the dealership said is normal. Maybe for a 10 year old car it is. I'll post a video of the sound later.

      drewski gearing will more than be enough to have this out accelerate its 6 speed auto and 5 speed manual predecessor. The only real let down is the torsion beam rear end. If you want more power in sure there will be a tune released soon enough. My son has a 2017 1.4t s with Boltons and a tune and he manages to gap stock mk7 gtis and mk6 glis.

    Nice Ford Fusion ... Uhh, I mean Hyundai Sonata ... umm I mean VW !? Can they become any more derivative? [ex: just look at the "hawk's beak"taillights: 2015 sonata, 2017 corolla, 2018 Tesla model 3.] This is not VW. Or it shouldn't be.
    Athletic handling ? Absolutely NOT. Well weighted steering? NO! It's very over-boosted and devoid of feel. Float and roll? Absolutely YES. I bottomed the whole chassis against the stops - front and rear - on the interstate at speed. It just Doesn't feel safe or inspire confidence travelling above 85 mph on a vigorous commute. WTH VW?
    BTW I own a base S 6M. It does have 3.0 L torque 2-4K rpm from the Hergestellt in Deutschland 1.4T D.I. engine. That part is O.K. :) The 6MT and clutch work well; and that very statement is not as ubiquitous as it should be. It almost makes it worth it. Interior is well done though belied by tactile penny pinching where it shouldn't be - as on the paper thin HVAC knobs, window switch gear, stalk controls and then that hard tiller on the base model. The Jetta is still worth a long look for a VERY comfy cruiser with punch in a almost mid sized package. I chose it over a base Subaru Impreza. Take the cheap lease.

The driving feel of this car is exact opposite to what the words "energetic" or "athletic" suggest, especially if you have driven Mazda or European Suzuki vehicles and know how a good handling car actually drives.
