It was the most costly car to get right after he screwed it up. Get it dealer serviced or use a euro specialized mechanic or it will cost you a ton more in the long run.

      Awful advice. Car maintenance/repair is not some magic art. It's nuts and bolts. If you go to a poor independent mechanic, you will get poor work. Same is true of dealerships except they charge drastically more. Don't you think dealership mechanics ever get fired for poor work? I have known several. One was a meth addict. I don't think that I would have trusted his work.
      Just last month I had a Toyota tech swear up and down to me over his mother's grave that the 4.7 in the Tundra has a timing chain and not a belt. He's wrong. I even know that and I don't make a living wrenching on Toyotas.

    I bought the 2019 manual transmission version of this car. It's fantastic, here is why;
    1. Fuel economy is on he highway is close to 50MPG and always better than 40mpg even if you are going 80+. So the Jetta gets as good or better mpg than the most miserly of econo boxes. The city miles are very good also but I can't give a number.
    2. The base model comes with everything necessary including Apple Car Play and Android Auto. The only possible exception might be heated seats.
    3. The steering, ride, braking are all very good. It's not a sports car but is still a nice driving and riding car. Some of the Japanese or Korean offerings in the price range are dead feeling
    4. The base model can be had for $16,000 - $16,500 plus tax, title, license. Other choices in that range are not as nice.
    5. Nice Warranty. 6 years, 72,000miles
    My only complaint is that there is no off throttle deceleration. When you release the throttle or when down shifting there is no resulting deceleration of the car. It feels like something in the induction prevents vacuum; possibly as an anti pollution strategy to prevent crank case gas from pulling up past the rings? Maybe because the engine displacement is so small that there just is not much to off set the weight of the car? People with automatic transmission cars would never notice. Manual transmission cars can be hard to find but in my view, worth it

But I have to agree, there's a modded 4th gen that drives into my work every now and then with the bigger rims and thinner tires, that silverish grey paint, and I love the style. It really seems compact. I don't like the rear lights on mine. Also, it has an electric seatback recline control but still has the little lever for sliding your seat back and forth. And I should mention that while there are no vents for the rear on the console, it's highly likely as with most non-luxury cars that the vents are underneath the front seats, just no control. I found it quite interesting that instead of air vents on the back of the center console, I found one pair of buttons: lock and unlock, to lock and unlock the car.

    Well, I was interested in the Jetta! I bought one the other day, and even though I have only had it for a few days, I love it! For a 147 horse power engine, it has enough power ( I was doing 72 mph on the freeway without it realizing it ). I bought the SEL trim, and I like it for the CD player, sunroof, gas mileage, Beats Audio, satelite radio and how it handles. And I found one in red!🚗 I am loving it! Hope that I don't get in a road rage so I don't get laughed at!

    I have a 2014 VW Jetta 1.8T. I have been thinking about buying the new model as the tech is upgraded for sure, and styling seems to be pretty good. I was thinking about bumping up to an Audi, Mercedes-Benz, or BMW, but the pricing on the Jetta is really nice. The 1.4T seems like a downgrade engine-wise from what I am driving now. If I go to a GLI then I might as well just step up to a more premium brand. Too many decisions! Great review. Might go to the dealer and look around.

In travels to my favourite road, Northern California route #1 , from Leggat to the paceman, the Jetta was as fast as the Porches and much better than our 2016 Mustang.
