Hello all, I have a question in regards to live show looping. I’ll try to be as specific as possible.
I perform live with a Scarlett 18i20 by way of a Dual 1/4 TS Mono Y splitter coming out the left and right outputs of the Scarlett into the line input of a DI Box. The DI Box is going into the PA mixer using XLR. I have a 1/4 inch input for my guitar. Signal works fine and playback signal is great for backing tracks. The guitar even has a signal.
The problem occurs when I go to record loops and there is no signal coming from my guitar anymore. What’s even weirder is when I’m not recording and just playing along with the backing tracks in Arrangement Mode it works fine. I’ve checked the monitoring on looper and it’s on ‘Always’. Please send help.

Wow, I thought there's some secret sauce for playing midi libraries live, but it seems like I'm doing everything well, so why everyone keeps telling me to buy an external mixer specially for lives?
I'm actually doing loops, so I hope my lqptop won't die in the middle of the show haha! :D

an audio interface gives you multiple outputs from your computer-best for the front of house audio engineer. An external mixer will be used for the band on stage to receive each source and mix the signal live.

Great video! I have been using audio interfaces for recording for a while but i am new to using them for live performance!

Have you made a video explaining how to do this with live tuning and processing?

yes! multiple courses on my site. I'll have a few tutorials out soon

Hi, this is great. However, in all these tutorials I always miss a key point in my opinion. How do you actually physically connect your interface to FOH? Many of the interfaces will have XLR or TRS connections which are balanced and should be able to directly connect to snake, but FOH mixer will be expecting mic level lines.. So then you should use a DI box between your interface and the main mixer, right? This would also prevent an accident if the engineer activates the phantom power for your channels.

Same here. I know I'll eventually get it, but I haven't found a definitive answer on YT after much searching, I'm talking weeks.

If you interface is balanced like the PA12, just use cables. If not, use a DirectBox to the stage snake.

@@fromstudiotostage Are the balanced output connectors in the interface protected in case FOH engineer activates the phantom power by accident?

Did you get any further on this? I have an Apollo 8 with balanced line (trs) outputs, and I’m not entirely sure what I should be doing between that and like you said the foh mixer. Should I use a trs to male xlr snake ? Just curious if you’ve gotten any more insights

You can run to a direct box or if your interface is balanced you can go directly to the snake.
The PlayAudio12 is balanced and protected again phantom power so most people go straight to the snake.
You’ll have to check the manual or with your interface manufacture to see what they recommend
