I hardly see it as pathetic, can you imagine having to go to work and hear this guy shouting in the street for hours? Trying to work and get on with your life. Normal every day people can pass him by, but those standing in the shop would have to listen to him for as long as he chooses to be there. It would not only be distracting and off putting to anyone walking by that general area (which is going to potentially put people off coming near the store/shop), but i imagine it would give you a headache too.
It's not saying "bleh bleh bleh i can't hear you" it's saying "shut the fuck up".
Preachers like this usually go to the same spot every day, and shout and scream. I would imagine you'd get sick of hearing his pitchy voice pretty quickly.
It's a quick and easy solution to shut him up.

I'm in full support of playing Manson in the presence of a preacher, but I think it's wrong to laugh at ones beliefs. However ridiculous it may be, faith means a lot to some people. And the way people in the crowd were snickering at this man's preaching, even if justified, I think was quite disrespectful.
On the other hand, he's a complete lunatic. It's just not fair to laugh at something that is clearly such an important thing in his life. But playing The Fight Song was freaking genius :D
