  • Traditionally hybrid cars are odd looking, but the 2019 Honda Insight not only looks like a normal sedan, it's more attractive than a normal sedan. With Civic proportions and some Accord styling, the Insight's distinct character sets it apart from the other oddball hybrids visually. Now, let's see how the rest of it stacks up.

A huge downside of the current Prius--which is otherwise actually a pretty good car--is the weird styling of the body. Toyota should have just updated the previous model's reasonably good design instead.

DO NOT BUY THIS FUCKING LEMON!!!!!
I purchased the 2022 Insight Touring package three weeks ago. I purchased it for a daily driver and for road trips around Oregon, specifically to Mt Hood where my family has a tiny ski cabin.
With guests in the vehicle, it is unable to achieve and maintain highway speeds without the engine redlining with any more than one person in the car. It can barely make it up the 2-3% graded area, and I was terrified to try the 6% graded area. It felt INCREDIBLY unsafe and underpowered. My brother and I both thought something was slipping. The engine revs dramatically and almost no power is sent to the wheels.
I have no idea how I can use it to carpool. If you know the Portland area, it struggles to get up the west hills of through the tunnel up to Skyline on the way to Beaverton with just me (155 lbs). If I had two people or more in the car, I would feel horribly unsafe.
I took it to the shop and they said it was working as designed. This is completely unacceptable!
If you live in a completely flat area or only drive on city streets, yeah it will probably be fine. If you have any hills whatsoever, you are fucked.

By far the most entertaining review. I've had mine for a week and I love it. A recurring complaint I hear is about in some reviews is the engine noise sometimes under heavy load. Yes it is louder than the car running in EV only or purely generating electricity for the batteries... but turn on the stereo and you'll almost never notice it.
I went with the EX, and I agree it's worth the small premium from the LX.

MICAH: Great review and video. THANK YOU for showing the cheap LX screen and interior materials. How does the INSIGHT Touring $28k compares to the interior space, head room, leg room, rear seat room space of the $56k Tesla Model 3 ...... I know, it’s not a fair apples to apples, but just in interior space, does it feel the same, smaller or bigger than a Model 3???? I saw a Model 3 at the NYC Tesla Show room, and was not impressed in person looks and feel for a $55k car, it felt like a regular $25k car with unique tech. For the money of the INSIGHT EX for $25k and 55 MPG is looking good!!!!. LUMBAAAAAAR!!!!! RESULTS, NOT LABEL!!!!! very funny, thanks for the video, your thoughts on Model 3 space interior vs the Insight

Purchased my beautiful pearl black Insight EX last month (October 2019) and got a great deal because I waited for the end of year close out so I got one for $20,000.00. Driving it is a dream, I'm getting 60 mpg in town. When I stop for a red light the car switches to the Electric Motor so I don't use gas. When the light is green and I take off it's all electric switching to hybrid mode to charge the battery and help power the engine when I need the extra horse power. I've made one 600 mile round trip on mountainous roads traveling through eastern Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky on my way to rural Ohio and easily got 51 mpg, at times when I was going down hill or on flat roads the mileage increased to 54 at times but the overall was excellent at 51. Overall I'm happy but there is room for improvement. When driving uphill on mountainous roads the engine is loud, you can hear and feel it straining to use its combined 151 hp. I'm guessing the tach would read somewhere in the 6000-7000+ rpm range or higher but once the road straightens out it's back to being a fairly quiet car and very comfortable and easy to drive. I have to admit I love all the safety features including the ACC and LKAS which takes some getting used to.

I had a 2019 Honda insight and like most of the features except the engine ! If you even started up a slice grade on the road it roared like the engine was a full throttle. That was quite annoying to me to say the leased. I liked the looks and mileage ,but the engine noise made me trade it on an C-RV. I lose MPG but more room and nothing like the noise from engine ! I had a Toyota Prius before the Insight and the engine noise was nothing compared to the insight. I do like Honda products and hope they improve the insight engine to downgrade the noise !!!

Hi Micah 😄, so great to see you and your review of the' 19 Honda Insight. Hopefully you'll review the 2019 Volvo XC40 soon.

Nice car. Nice review. It would be nice to include a real world mpg test to see if the car's reported mpg lives up to the reality of a regular driver's experience.

Why does the accord hybrid exist when the insight is a thing?

  • @kiwi22207

I just test drove one and although it is a beautiful car with a ton of tech features the engine is loud and annoying when accelerating

    • @dan_hitchman007
      @dan_hitchman007 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I noticed that too. It's far louder than the Prius, Niro, and Ioniq. It's probably a bad combo of a CVT and poor torque ratio. It acted like a dog driving up hills. I thought I would have to get out and push!

You could easily put a charging pad in the phone holding slot. Most cars pre 2015 are missing this painfully obviously needed features ignored by idiot manufacturers.
