DIY DVD GPS map drive cleaning: Toyota Denso JBL DVD map drive in GPS Navigation units E7007 - E7013

- Procedure to remove and clean the DVD GPS map navigation drive. Fails to load the disc complete because the insert rollers are dirty or not gripping.
See detailed steps to remove and clean the using so DVD will start reading again. Once DVD can be read, the unit will proceed with starting up and working.
Also, when you have DVD drive open look at the row of gears on the left. The black gear closest to the rear sometimes breaks. Push down the rollers and spin the motor to see if any teeth are missing. If they are missing, you will need to replace the while DVD drive. See below.

Hi Joe, I just wanted to say THANKS!! I had this map DVD problem and followed your procedure to pull the unit out, disassemble, and clean, and I was very skeptical that it would resolve the issue. (Not because of your instructions, but because I thought the problem may have been a bad laser. Mine would go in and eject fine, but would not read.) I was ecstactic when I got it connected and it worked right off the bat! This was absolutely huge because otherwise the audio and the rear camera are disabled, and now everything is functional. Thanks for your wonderful guide!!

Yes this is the same procedure for the 2011 Toyota Prius with JBL GPS navigation unit. This unit will not operate if the DVD map drive is not working. Sometimes it’s dirty rollers, but sometimes it’s a broken black gear on the side. When you open it to clean the rollers. Check the black gear closet at to the rear of the unit. Try rotating it and look for missing teeth. If you have missing teeth, then you will need to purchase a new DVD drive. See website to order: www.leakboards.com
Hi I have a 2012 Toyota kluger grande showing the same problem after replacing the battery. Does this procedure work on my stereo.? The number on the screen is 18037 and model number on the head unit is ft0002a. Thanks

When cleaning the roller, if you press it down slightly, it will disengage from the gear drive and free roll. You can turn it easily to clean all sides of the roller.
Good point. I forgot to mention that in the video. Also forgot to mention to check the black gear towards the rear of the drive. That gear tooth breaks and causes problems.

Hello I have that stock jbl system and wondering is there a current dvd navigation for it?
JBL system comes with radio only or radio and GPS navigation. If you have JBL radio only, you cannot fully upgrade to navigation. You will get power and audio but you will not get reverse camera, Bluetooth mic, or navigation voice. You can get navigation mapping with an added antenna for $200 from the dealer.

The stereo is identical as the you took apart with voice activation..
04 Toyota has a different GPS unit. Front look similar but it’s made by Fujitsu and not by Denso. Those are very complicated units. And not very good

@@engmotaz6888 yes. But for 7014 thru 7017, opening it is more difficult. It’s easier if you plug the very left plug in and turn on power. Push eject button and turn key off when door is half open. Then you will need to remove the Phillips screws for the clear cover for the ribbon cable. Remove the ribbon cable for the buttons and remove the rest of the Phillips screws to remove the trim. Then you can remove the rest of the LCD screen. Thanks
Hi. Mine is stuck on this screen. I cant engage the radio or back up camera because the buttons wont respond. Is though a way to get to my radio stations without pulling out the radio?
No this unit requires the map dvd to work. You’ll need to replace the dvd drive or purchase a new unit refurbished. Visit www.leakboards.com

Hi, I did all those steps and cleaned with 75% alcohol and put back together then tried it and it still won’t work! It’s making the same clicking noise , cd gets ejected after 10-16 seconds and then it go’s back in and then kicks out . Do you also have a Facebook page ?

Yes this applies, if you have a Camry hybrid with GPS navigation. I believe the model number is E7010 or E7011. This applies

I broke 2 of the ribbon clips/connectors and I don't know whereto get new ones have been to about 6 computer repair stores no luck any suggestions

I don't need it all the time I rather see whats radio station I am listening and also the most annoying greeting of the agreement every time that I start the car..please help
I want to keep the original stereo but if there's no other way I have to take it off and use a aftermarket stereo with a sim card yes a sim card for cellphones this way it always gonna have a better reception instead of the wifi one some time they lag or they use a low quality videos and they are pointless to watch a videos so grainy, sim card are better ah and they are wifi also 😊.
I wish we can upgrade to SIM card but the factory unit is still better than the aftermarket crap I see.
