  • After the catastrophic engine failure in April and off airport landing, the wings were separated from the fuselage, and the plane trucked some 2.5 hours south in Springfield Ohio. Waiting her turn in the maintenance queue, the new engine was received and the quality staff at Lone Mountain put her back together. While I was at OSH on Wednesday, we were notified she was ready to come home. So Thursday afternoon, a couple pilots flew me out to KSGH for the pick up. Join me as I turn the key for the first time since the engine was replaced and the plane reassembled. The anticipation had been building over the last three months, As I sat inside the cockpit, I felt a range of emotions, including exhilaration, happiness, and a bit of apprehension. It was time to bring her back. Join me for her trip from Springfield, OH to Hangar 5 at Chicago Executive Airport. Welcome Home!

      @@josec4790 I've thought about the G5 for the GW increase the flap speed increase. Chicago approach loves to keep us fast until the final approach fix, and with the 119 knot flap max, it makes it difficult.

    Appreciate the thoughtfulness in your flying and great work in all of your videos! Any idea how much longer till we know what happened to this engine?

    • @pfflying6275
      @pfflying6275  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a frustrating experience. I will just say this. Based on two forensic analysis events at two different shops, I believe it was maintenance induced and had to do with a torque value not being correct. This resulted in a bearing shifting and cutting off the oil supply which resulted in the catastrophic engine failure. That's all I can say at this point. ;-)

    4:25 "I am so excited to be in my airplane" 😀 was the alternator 2 issue anything to worry about?

    • @pfflying6275
      @pfflying6275  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So we checked out the Alternator and actually ordered a refurbished one, but that wasn't the issue. Turned out to be a Field Control Unit, which we have ordered. While in there it was discovered the new prop governor was leaking oil, so that was sent back, reworked and put back in the plane today. So once I get the FCU, we should be in business. Frustrating that we lose another weekend of flying, but nothing we can do about that. Thanks for checking in.

    how getting a da-62? if an engine goes in the da-62 you'll have one other. plus, those look like they could glide for days.

      @@pfflying6275 i understand. i love the parachute feature. i guess the next innovation in chutes for planes will be a chute one could steer to a touch down. that could be very useful.

    NO!!! On first startup you start taxi, do NOT stop and GO when you get to the runway, do your mag check IN THE AIR.' Whomever taught you what to do lied their ass off to you.

    • @pfflying6275
      @pfflying6275  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The plane had already been through its first start up and first flight by the maintenance shop. The reason you do not want to wait until you are in the air is if you have a bad mag, you want to know that on the ground. That happened to me. Sure I could take off and the other mag would keep me flying.... UNLESS it failed too and then I am SOL.
