    Love that color scheme. Definitely wouldn't be hard to spot your own plane on the ramp! One Cirrus tip to anybody watching: the seat belt is meant to be worn with the buckle down at your hips (low & tight, as they say). In most of the shots in this video, it's way too loose and would be dangerous in an accident because you'd "submarine" out from under it. Also, the air bags won't work properly if the belt isn't tightened to pull the shoulder straps down into position. Happy flying!

    The Cirrus sure did capture the market, primary reason was the CAPS for new pilots transitioning into GA, and the sense of security that it offered. However, the Columbia was much more a pilot's airplane. I never liked the flight controls on the Cirrus, with that awkward springy feel, whereas the Columbia side-stick was smooth as butter, and it just felt so well integrated. Also, the Columbia's failsafe designs incorporated throughout the airframe and slick engineering details were also superior, IMHO.

    Even though I have some mixed emotions about them, you can't deny all the good points as you said. I don't like who they sold the company to, and think that's sad. The good part is they are staying with the high standards previously set. For my $$ I really like Diamond. My "lottery" airplane right now is a DA-62/42. Until then, it's still OPJ's. 8) --gary

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hope to do those videos in the future as well! Pretty similar, but Cirrus side stick has some spring tension in it which takes some getting used to for smooth turns, but has quick ailerons and I think compares well with Bonanzas which are excellent handling aircraft. Thanks for watching!

    How do you go from a standard center yoke to a left hand side stick yoke so easily?

  • @GaryMCurran
    @GaryMCurran 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Really nice airplane, but the price! Ouch! I'm glad someone could afford it. Personally, and I can't because I don't have my medical anymore, and I'm nowhere near current, nor do I have a multi-engine rating, but if I was looking to spend that kind of money on a four seat airplane, that DA42 that you have in the hanger would be top of my list. Half the price, even with both engines at cruise, less fuel burn than that TSIO-550 in the Cirrus for near like cruise speeds The rest of the money would be spent on changing out the G1000 in the DA42 to the new G1000NXi system and other upgrades and then spent on $100 hamburgers around the country! But, that's just me.

    • @FlyingwithRich

      I don’t think cabin is noisy, certainly not any worse than any other single with a 550. Bose headsets kind of take noise out of the picture.

      @@FlyingwithRich I took delivery of a 2022 SR22T a couple months ago and did not get the 4 blade. They wanted $23k for the option and the only selling point they said was "ramp appeal". Other than that, there were no performance benefits. I'm guessing it floats a bit more on landings due to the blade width not being as wide. Not really trying to impress the line guys so I didn't get it.

    Why would I choose this over a brand new 182 with the same panel? Just curious of the opinion of an experienced pilot:
    Also that paint job looked like a t-shirt from the 1980s…

    • @FlyingwithRich
      @FlyingwithRich  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure where to begin on that question - CAPs is a very popular safety option to a lot of people, perfomance of the Cirrus is quite different than a 182, 5 seats vs. 4...really a different market - nothing wrong with a 182, but Cirrus outsells it by a wide margin even though it's nearly twice the money new! Paint jobs are highly subjective - got lots of calls on this paint job and everyone I talked to loved it!

    • @rogerbee697
      @rogerbee697 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rogerbee697 CAPS Stands for “Cirrus Airframe Parachute System” so in other words this system name can only be used for Cirrus Aircraft.
      However, the same company who built the parachute for Cirrus which is called “BRS Parachute” offers a parachute for the Cessna 182, this can be installed in many of the 182 models including some older models.
