My goal with this video isn't to sway you or influence you in some way but to give you an honest, transparent, very subjective stance on where I am when it comes to camera gear and what ive learned to be the best practice when navigating these purchases. I need it. My problem is that I don't LIKE spending money. I've been using the same cameras for years and it's hard to upgrade when what I have works! haha.

All fair reasons! I've got the FX3 and 2 FX30s for the ease of switching between them/tally lights/ergonomics - but I was using a really weird assortment of A7iii, A6600, and FX3 before pulling the trigger on the FX30s as B and C cams. But I feel like if you're using the A7IV and A7Siii the FX30 makes less sense being ergonomically so different. And yeah... they eat up batteries. I went into an 8.5 hour wedding day with 6 fully charged batteries, and by hour 6 I was needing to charge because all the batteries were low. So before next season I'll be buying 3 more Sony batteries...and an extra charger. Ouch. I don't regret my decision, but it's a very real thing on a wedding day to be dealing with. Especially with 3 battery hungry cams.
Huh, that’s weird the FX30 has a slightly lower power draw than the FX3 - it should have better battery life. Also, anyone and everyone should consider the FX30 as a potential A-cam - besides the no-light night scenes, I can just about guarantee they could have filmed the movie The Creator with the FX30 just as easily. What you get out of it is in your hands, the FX30 isn’t a limitation. You don’t need an FX30 because you already have 2 recent high dynamic range Sony cameras … makes sense for you, but if someone doesn’t have any camera or if they have an outdated 8 bit camera or something - the FX30 is an excellent consideration … especially for doc-style work where audio is key
Totally! This video obviously shares my own experience and hot take. Overall the camera itself is a powerful tool that anyone who may be seeking a quality, afforadable and reliable upgrade should look at. Everyones needs and goals will be different of course and depending on the type of work they do they may need something completely different. Its good to have options but it can certainly be overwhelming at the same time.
I've definitely been going back and forth with this whole purchasing the FX30 and switching from canon, but just haven't had the time to do the research so this has been really helpful for me to consider

Thought-provoking video! It seems to me like the FX-30 just isn't really right for you (even if you enjoyed it) because you're further along your journey and have access to some impressive gear. It's my first serious camera, it suits my needs thus far, but my needs are more modest than yours, I suspect.
I bought it and I love it. But it was also my first cinema camera. I'm patiently waiting for the FX3 Mark 2 as well!
It really is such an awesome camera! If I didnt have what I have now I wouldnt hesitate buying!
Built in NDs is the reason I want the C70 for my main cam, and won't switch to the FX3.

Low light performance is not good so I returned mine and got the A7s III

The F X 30 is a very compact camera and is affordable in price and image quality, if you move by these standards, then you can buy it, but if there is an FX 3, then I will not be able to get away with it, this camera was recognized in Netflix
I recently sold my fx30, it was my B cam but it was as you said one time shoot, I change it for the zve1 its best to hang in my neck and is perfect go travel with my kids camara, and for me as B cam is more than perfect

@@gehrrman Its my b cam I will never have a monitor on it. And if I do i will use accon m1 or Monitor ++ to usb 😉 living in north europe were the the sun is up in this days 5.5 hrs the lowlight is so usefull
What would you recommend the C70 vs the FX30?
Honestly both lol it all depends on preference, style, budget, needs etc
C70 is amazing, great color right out of cam, built in NDs, Log, 10 Bit, a host of other features. The downside is the weight and size and lack of true image stabilization. It has digital IS but it’s not as good in my opinion.
Fx30 is great price point, small compact size, not great in low light but shines throughout controlled environments, it’s tough to say which I would recommend because both of them are incredible tools.

But all jokes aside.... Good video. I love my fx30 and it can and is for me DEFINITELY an A cam. I rigged mine out and it's way better when you do. V mount batteries aren't that expensive and worth it for sure.
The real way to build your gear as to cameras, is to buy all the same cameras, lens change easily, colour match is the same, and settings are the same. Mixing cameras and especial cropped and FF, just makes your work flow messy. Build your rig to make work flow easier

Fx30 is trash - APC and worst low light performance
If you think APSC/S35 makes a camera trash…I suggest never work in the film Industry most professional cameras are S35, almost every movie ever made has been S35 lol the best camera right now Alexa 35 is S35 lol maybe give S35 a try and you’ll understand how amazing of images you can get
