I don't think so....I would see him do a demonstration with his left hand...simple he can't...I put a video as left hand player with a backhand played with my right hand...I am not a trop trainer but I invite you all super guys to see it. I play and train left-hand and do also the strokes with the right hand. Stop please abouth international top trainers. I challenge all those super guys to play a match against me with their non play hand...so stop calling international ex-players as super trainers...my trainer could only chop in the 70's but he learned me to spin a ball in fore- and backhand. A good trainer can play left and right-handed and demonstrate all strokes both-sided. I manage to do so and even the pendelum serve I learned as left hand player to right hand players..so I am proud of myself of having learned this. A good and firm trainer manage this firm and different than others ...and I am proud to be one and a country which understand this way of teaching, will have in no time a world champion...because left players have the advantage of 15% in a match. Left-handed players have more difficulties to reach the top because there a no left hand trainers on top level..Because they teach a left -hander to play as right - hander and you need defenitely a left -hand trainer to teach a left hand player and to teach him to play as a left-hander and not a right hander.
I like how he explains it so to the point in simple easy to understand language and sentences. He does way better at explanations than the other videos of people I have watched. Thank you so much!
Agreed. He doesn't talk too much, and does lots of demonstration...the english guy goes on and on....this teacher keeps it simple...because the main ideas ARE simple.
Just brush the ball! Very simpool. Ha this guy cracks me up! Thank you for the video clip - It has helped me develop my backhand into a more aggressive style when required opposed to the bland backhand returns.
Responding to a beginner's question with a suitable "beginner's" response is in fact the mark of an experienced coach. Instructing a novice player to incorporate body weight transfer and wrist movement into their stroke is counterproductive and will only lead to hindered progress and frustration.
Great video - content, editing, and overall production quality. I love Coach Tao Li. He is a great presenter and knows how to make a fun video. I like his talking style and his sense of humor (ex: the 3:44 "bad brush" reaction and his 4:06 goat noise for emphasis). Also, thanks to all the other people who helped make the video. I hope my words bring benefit and joy. I was also keen to hear a bit more about the mechanics of the stokes (like if a backhand loop involves lots of wrist movement, or how much to involve the elbow and shoulder), but I am aware of how it is good to keep videos fairly short.
I know this is old, but thanks a lot! I mainly use backhand rather than forehand and lack lots of skill compared to my friends using forehand, and this has helped me get on their level only using backhand, once again thanks a lot!
@joewatch Yes, you're right. All those things go into performing a strong backhand attack. Coach Li was simply giving some quick tips to a student had no backhand attack to begin with.
"I think no more" This man is so adorable lmaooo. He is so confident and so concise. He may not know enough English to be seem eloquent but he wields the words he knows very well.
Excellent break down. I always struggle against a chop/ drop shot on the back hand. Will try your tips here to see if I can attack a bit more on the back hand. Thank you so much for the video
Hi there. Yes it certainly can. Taking the initiative and attacking when the opportunity presents itself is important and a long fast serve is a perfect chance to attack. The ball comes to you faster so if the serve is topspin or sidespin it is important to close your bat angle and take a short controlled swing at the ball. Taking a big swing will usually result in low accuracy. So close bat angle, short swing :) give it a try.
Thanks for this video, I have developed a strong forehand, but I realized a couple days ago that my backhand is quite under-developed, as I can only do blocks and basic strokes, I have grasped the idea of spinning the ball with precise angling of the bat, and with this nice tutorial, I can take my knowledge with my topspin on my forehand, and transfer that over to my backhand. Thanks!
Thanks coach Li,I really wish I had watched your videos 5 years ago to better my skills when I was playing every day,in my college.I have not been playing for the past 3 years and recenty picked up my bat in a duel against the boys at the place where I workI had totally forgotten how awesome this sport was.I have begun to watch videos to get some tips so I can begin practising again.
@XxMaplerzxX There is no provision in the rules that you must have a free hand at all times, so the use of two hands is perfectly legal. In what situations do you feel you need to do this though? One could only expect to achieve consistency by practicing this technique, and we recommend you focus on developing your backhand with your racket hand only. In our opinion your time is better spent practicing things other than two-handed backhands.
i don't really have a backhand. the only thing i can do is block or do a backspin shot. i usually always get killed cause i have no backhand..but watching these videos, it really has helped me better understand how to do a backhand. thanks.
Great video, very helpful,,,,,, Technic and execution has not changed even though the game did changed. I was away from the game for many years and upon coming back all I've had to change was the rubber (noticed that bad players play better with the new kind). I STILL love my power drive blades from the 80's. The only thing I could not get used to was the darn scoring (11 points game instead of 21)... Great video, by the way
I enjoyed the video. I'm getting back into the sport. It's easy to listen to the instructions but you have to practice, practice, practice. Just my thoughts
I would say that his arm is finishing too far up and that it will make it hard for him to recover for the next shot. Also, he needs to use body movement a little bit to help increase the spin ... just a small bob in the knees will help.
Your video is so good that I can be easy to understand your statements. Besides, I suggest that you can draw some red lines to show us how to make the power and the directions. Thanks very much.
Especially for the backhand topspin against backspin that he demonstrates, just set the playback speed of the video at 0.25, otherwise you won't get the details of the stroke.
All the points you make are correct, just a little overwhelming to offer a struggling student. Coach Li simply wanted to offer some quick tips to those wanting a more aggressive backhand who have not fully developed their stroke yet. We have a 60 min Backhand Loop Mastery DVD that covers all the aspects you mention in extraordinary detail.
The blog says he is a former Chinese national champion, so everybody should stop questioning credentials (if you believe this, which I do). This is a very good teacher. He is answering while considering the skill level of the student, and not making the answer too far beyond the student who asked the question. It is easy to describe a 100% correct stroke, so that the entry-level student can never do it. Skills are built on a foundation.
@mogiedon85 Interesting. The purpose of the video was to answer a student's question on how to get a more aggressive backhand. Not only will the wrist produce very little (if any) power, but it often leads to less consistent control. Wrist movement should be kept at a minimum for beginners until they've developed a consistent stroke using their body and arm.
the best rubber for a allround playing backhand is the donic quattro formula (2.0mm) u can block, chop, smash and loop. in my opinion the best bh-rubber!
Hi, really appreciate your effort ! I have recently started playing and I can only play backhand and that too I cannot add power to it so my apponent just smashes the ball back to me , also I am literally not able to do forehand. All of his shorts are at low height and has spin. Please suggest how to hand low hieght balls with forehand.
his english pronounciation is good to all those who criticise his english. Admit he is easy to understand howvever his grammar and sentence structure need work. For those criticing his english remember how well could you present such a video in mandarin with correct pronounciation and tones. Believe me the chinese speak better english than us westerners speak mandarin chinese. i know i studied their language 20 years ago.

Why do not we translate it into Arabic?
Feel free to do so thx
Table Tennis University what if the ball is low
his accent makes you pay attention more
It’s just a borrowed language. What’s big deal
He can at least communicate better than, say, Ti Long.
I like how he explains it so to the point in simple easy to understand language and sentences. He does way better at explanations than the other videos of people I have watched.
Thank you so much!

Great
Face expression "Bad Brush" gave me a good laugh, great lesson, thanks for the video.

Thank you, Coach Li. In 4 minutes you gave me more information than watching someone else's techniques for 4 hours.
Great video - content, editing, and overall production quality.

Thanks for the comments.
