  • Hi all
Back from my Eastern and Western Cape road trip and its time for the last birding trip we did before I set off.
We decided to spend the morning birding along the Zaagkuilsdrift Road and end up at the Kgomo Kgomo pan. The road and pan are exceptionally good for birding, with special warblers to be found along the way as well as water birds at the pan. We were hoping to see a few specials as well, given the good rains the night before. However we struggled with our LBJ identification and maybe should have spent less time on some of the little brown birds. We got the the Kgomo Kgomo pan around 10am and spent another 90 minutes looking for waterbird in the area, having been told of a western yellow wagtail on an island, which we eventually did find.
A great area to bird, within easy reach from Johannesburg! We will definitely be back!

Could you please give gps coordinates or at least route intersections so it’s easier to find?

I shall try to do that. I have individual coordinates for each sighting we had through the bird lasser app.

@@gavinsmith28 yes I want to work towards my FGASA birding qualification and then take it from there. I do do a trip to Giants Castle that’s more photographic focused, with some birding in the area.
