Let's set the record straight on the original "Black Ghost". I'm 71 years old and lived 3 miles from Woodward Ave. in Royal Oak, MI. I was on Woodward racing at least 5 nights/week in my '69 Diamond Racing built 396 Camaro. It would run low 11's at Detroit Speedway. Yes, this Challenger is a very rare and sought after car but a legend? Terrorizing Woodward? Hardly. Never heard of that car. People's memories are lacking and the stories coming out are probably about a car called Silver Bullet a bonafide factory sponsored Hemi beast. This car that just sold is a stock Hemi and there were lots of cars on Woodward that could leave a stock Hemi in the dust - mine being one. This so-called legend is completely made up to promote the movie the guy made about it. Maybe his Dad raced it but it was not a legend. Take it from someone who was there at the time. Love your videos but can’t believe you fell for the black Ghost bullshit story just to sell new Hellcat tributes. Uncle Tony has the only real review of the car but he’s right.
I believe the Black Ghost because of its history should've sold north of 2 million. This car will sell again in the near future for double the auction price as it gains notoriety. I think Barrett Jackson would've done much better on the sale price. The Black Ghost is the epitome of street racing history! To my knowledge, an automobile manufacturer has never built a car in tribute to one person's car, therefore adding a ton more to its value. I'd be curious if someone could shed some light on this.
The Story is True !! It was Authenticated by the Historic Vehicle Association. It was Chronicled on Lou Costabile You Tube Channel over 5 Years ago with the same exact story. There are comments on the vehicle racing in Detroit on Mac's Motorcity Garage from 2014. Cletus T Rickenbacher 3rd on October 9, 2014 at 10:03 am said: There were everything from stock 4 door sedans, motorcycles(1 of the fastest there was a pink Sportster) and borderline Pro Stock cars that would run down close to 9 seconds. Most races were for bragging rights, but on many occasions money changed hands. I watched one go for $1500 between a 454 Camaro and a Hemi Challenger (Challenger won by a 1/2 car length)." The Historic Vehicle Association, MECUM, and The US Library Of Congress. Authenticated The Story !! -Sarge
The whole black ghost is a complete bullshit story, 14 seconds on a great day it is a very heavy stock car its not beating allot of other racers in that era. Not happening.
Im bothered that dodge made the same mistake again by not installing the shaker as Godfrey ordered. Even a dummy shaker, given all the restrictions and hassles theyd have to go through to produce a few one-offs. But nope
I love my Dodge Challenger. However, the way things are built today may be fast, but the quality in interiors/ aspects of the engine and exteriors are made cheaply. I plan on getting my body 3D printed with Steel and upgrading my interior to be more sturdy, as well as aspects of the engine. I’m making a lightening fast battering ram that won’t dent basically. I will eventually be documenting this process when the time is right and I will share it with our good brother Racer X to take a ride in it when it is complete.
Bone stock survivor car. Cool car regardless but the whole story is bs. Big stories create big reactions which leads to big business. If you REALLY think that dodge, mecum, hagerty, the owner, and movie studios arent all interwoven into making this spectacle happen, I have some ocean front property in Kansas for sale.
Personally, that's way more than I expected the car to sell for. This wasn't a movie car like the Steve McQueen's Bullet Mustang that sold at auction for over 3 million dollars. This is a 1970 426 Hemi Challenger RT SE with a gator roof which apparently was a factory error and a Detroit street racing story attached. It somewhat bitter sweet but it was time to let it go. Some days I kick myself for selling it. Just got an offer to good to pass. It was the exact number my dad said he would take before he passed. 🙏
What a story!! a 14 sec car was a ghost- bogus
nothing like grifting off a BS STORY!
Stop .. please 🤦🏼♂️
Tribute to stone stock 14 sec car.
The only legend of this car was the legendary story his son told about this stock 14 second car being a legit street racer.
1 of 23 black on black on black 4spd 70 hemi rt / se
Waaaaaaaaay beyond baffling for how low the car went for. The buyer got a great deal for an original car with a nationally known history. Wouldn't surprise me if the car is put up for auction again it would go for many times more.
That "known history" is apparently a lie.
How's it going Racer X? I don't think there's a happy person in the comments section today. Sorry about that.
I know, right? Haters gonna hate. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what they think. The original owner made nearly 1 million, and the haters did not. Long live the Black Ghost.
Love your videos but can’t believe you fell for the black Ghost bullshit story just to sell new Hellcat tributes. Uncle Tony has the only real review of the car but he’s right.
Surprised it wasn’t more. The backstory is incredible. When they make a movie about it the price will go up.
I told people a million and I was told I was crazy. I was dead on.
Any chance to purchase a vent with that logo?
Fair price for a legendary mopar
Says who😂
Nobody has ever heard of this Bone Stock street race car . Absolute fabricated BS to make more money .
1969 L/88 vette would have murdered the ghost!
Interesting observation
Bro it's a fake story to pump the value, there's going to be some law suits and it'll never sell that high again.
Chance of the Black Ghost ever running a race…..0%.
It’s a cool fictional story.
What a great story!
A part of me is pissed that son sold the car but the other part of me understands why he sold the car
🏆Racer X 🏆Very cool sure miss my 🍀Challenger😎✌️
There's one born every minute....
Cletus T Rickenbacher 3rd on October 9, 2014 at 10:03 am said:
There were everything from stock 4 door sedans, motorcycles(1 of the fastest there was a pink Sportster) and borderline Pro Stock cars that would run down close to 9 seconds. Most races were for bragging rights, but on many occasions money changed hands. I watched one go for $1500 between a 454 Camaro and a Hemi Challenger (Challenger won by a 1/2 car length)."
The Historic Vehicle Association, MECUM, and The US Library Of Congress. Authenticated The Story !!

Sweet car. Even sweeter scam lol
Alot of money to pay for a story. Not at all worth that money or commemorating a fable. Someone should feel foolish.
But nope
Poppycock how long are we going to go with the story the main word story Fairy Tail
Scam car. Definitely wasn't dominating street racing in Detroit in the 70s.
That’s a huge accusation . Interior of dodge is not cheap. It’s simple. Go buy a European car if you have OCD about what type of plastic they used 😂
How much did the dealer sell the new Black Ghost for?
7500 over MSRP
@@RacerX9 What's MSRP? Ty.
thats sticker on the car
@@RacerX9 How much is the sticker price? Ty.
@@RacerX9😂😂😂.
He meant how much was MSRP.
62,599 max 60min
What a great story X! Vert very good upload..
I heard the son bought a 2023 Black Ghost? Pretty good trade off.
Yes Gregory is a big fan of the channel
damn that was a steal on that price i was thinking like 2.5
A fool and his money are soon…
Personally, that's way more than I expected the car to sell for. This wasn't a movie car like the Steve McQueen's Bullet Mustang that sold at auction for over 3 million dollars. This is a 1970 426 Hemi Challenger RT SE with a gator roof which apparently was a factory error and a Detroit street racing story attached. I would be interested finding out how many people were aware of this car before Dodge used it to sell their Black Ghost final edition.
Wayyyyy too much money
Dude u will belive anything 😅
awesome review racerx.....definitely a piece of Mopar history....saw the doc....excellent....that new edition.....very nice
It's a ghost story alright, and a scam.
Well it is a rare Mopar do like rare Shelby's and Vettes they bring top dollar.
Tons of stories? Where? No one, and I mean no one has ever heard of this car racing anyone! Quit spreading b.s.
In the height of the muscle car Era in the king of muscle car cities, this bone stock smoked all comers? Hahaha. Jesus, people believe anything that's on the internet.
Shame, should have stayed with the family.
Would be epic.
One of the best car stories ever. Awesome family with a awesome car
That TRX in the background looks way better than that challenger with stickers...
Somebody got screwed by a supposed legend
