It's not a poor town. The average annual income is $50,000 and full of historic landmarks. There's plenty of diversity and different types of neighborhoods. It's not David Duke Louisiana or Ala-freaking-bama. People are friendly and get along well. You can find everything and anything here, and it's all within a ten or fifteen drive, depending on where you live. You can't judge a town or city by driving down a few streets.
I was born there in 1945. Went to John H. Reagan school for the first grade. We moved away then to Kansas. I lived on 201 W. 17th close to Chadbourne. My dad help build the 7 mile dam. I actually remember Chadbourne going to downtown. That was over 70 years ago! Thank you for the video.
Y'all should have had someone who could give you a better tour of the city. You really didn't see the best parts at all. It's easy to get a wrong impression about a place if you don't see the whole town, and y'all definitely missed a lot of the better places.
You passed my grandfather's home. This brought back so many memories. I was born and raised here but moved to DFW once I got married. I've been gone 9 years now. You didn't take a great route. We are known for Goodfellow Air Force Base. It is a training base. Hopefully if you go back you are able to get a better feel with a guided tour.
Perhaps of i took that tourist route you would have not seen those memories☺️ we got this and no we don’t care to see the fancy stuff we purposely look for the most run down areas where we travel because its a more interesting video

You couldn't have picked a worse route to drive through. You ended up going through the old rundown parts. So you didn't really get an impression of San Angelo.
Ya’ll have taken the worst route through town. Downtown by the river has beautiful parks and hidden art works. Beautiful downtown buildings. There are beautiful neighborhoods as well. Plenty of major shopping retail is here.

Such a sleepy, dusty town. If you go to the Southwest side of town where Sunset mall is it looks a little more modern. Anymore I only go back for funerals or graduations; the last time was 2008 or so

At 16:02 time stamp when you turned Northbound on S. Oakes St. and close to Fort Concho, I have relatives that live in that area. There are a LOT more to be seen in San Angelo even though I am not from there, but I do like that city.
Picked probably the least attractive route through the city. There are many beautiful buildings and parks, but you couldn't tell from this. It's like you planned your route to avoid the best of the city.

There is not bad area in that city. They claim northside towards Lake View High School is but it's not. And you don't have to worry all of the hotel's are near the highway, you'll be fine.

The old timers in San Angelo would call San Angelo ANGELO. My late grandparents were from San Angelo. Also this is my late mother's home town.
