I never got a chance to thank Rik for all of the laughter he brought to my life. As we all have, I have had some pretty dark times in my years and Rik was always able to bring a smile to my face and a laugh to my lips. I just can't believe he's gone.

They came up with the idea of having musical performances on the show so it would be classified as a variety show as opposed to a sitcom, thus receiving a larger budget from the BBC.

I was an avid fan big time of the young ones . Rick Mahall was truly something else , he wrote and did so much comedy . A great talent I was sad to learn the news when he died , a big loss to his art and the public

Thank you thank you thank you for putting this on. I have it on a tape somewhere. Showed it to my husband way back when and he fell over laughing. i cant believe a clip this old is still attracting comments, but i'm very glad it is. i rememebr this show vividly :) at the time it was so radical risque and cuting edge you wouldn't believe it. when watching it now i am amazed at how young everybody looks and it still has me crying with laughter.... thanks a mill to the young ones .. may they be young forever :D
Great times... Several things made me laugh.. "ok pop music let's go" 😂 "I'm not a girl at all" 😂.. " The speed the Police arrive.." the neighbours have been conplaining".. 😂... Loved it.. Thanks for sharing

"The music's too loud." That reminds me of my hall of residence, my first day back one term; I turned mine up loud for a good song, thinking nobody would be working yet; but I very soon got a knock & a request from a young fogey to turn it down just a bit. Why couldn't I have had, instead, cool young students knocking on my door to enthuse about how marvellous it was to get away from parents asking us to turn it down?!
***** When I went to England for a year abroad my housemates and I had the music turned up for the first two nights until 3 or 4 am. Awwwww is that because your massively pretensious
The Young Ones should be internationally famous like friends.
It pretty much is
Difference was the mass distribution wasn't as accessible as in the 80s

Its about as edgy as the Goons was in the fifties. Its a continuation of a fine tradition via Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. Who were genuinely filthy
