"and this is one of my favorites, an old Case steamer pulling a 10 bottom"......you're not alone there! Great vid.

Nice to see ole tractors plowing, sure has changed in the last 50 years, over 60 years since I was involved with plowing. Most of the tractors I was familiar with only pulled 2 bottom plows, some had 3 bottom, our area in Michigan had red clay soil.

Great to see all these old girls still working. My favs are the Screamin' Jimmy Olivers and the big Case steamer.

Great video, thanks for uploading. Where I'm from (Eastern New Mexico) we call that type plowing as deep-breaking and the plows as breaking plows. Most farmers had a reversible plow and it was common practice to deep-break every other year.

Great stuff and I bet everything smelled fantastic. Love the smell of freshly turned ground. The steam engine, of course, but the fellow on the Ford with the two-bottom plow with his hand on the hydraulic quadrant really got to me. Might as well have been my Dad.

I went to tech school in the u.s. Air Force at Chanute Air Force Base. I have heard that it is now shut down. Boy it was cold as anybody's business in that winter of 81. Marching to school every morning from the barracks was a wake up for sure

That Case steam tractor was great. And pulling a 10-bottom plow, nonetheless. I've never seen a steam tractor at work. Sounds a lot like a steam locomotive, and pumps out a lot of coal smoke, too.

Good thing the plow rigs were not being scored on the job completed! Some of them looked to be barely scratching the surface. But, good video, nevertheless. Great to see some of the old tractors at work, running well.

How do the tandem towed tractor setups work?

  • @Manorfarmdenton

The number of golf carts to the acre was matched only by the number of beer bellies. Does that say something perhaps?

Lol if it makes a difference I did not rent a golf cart and did a lot of walking.

I enjoyed the tandem tractors, was not too fond of the Oliver with the open exhaust.

Is that how they used to do it before the manufacturers got into the bigger articulating tractors?

What's with all these people in the butt buggies that keep inching up to the furrow the last plow just turned? Not to mention all the spectators close to being run over.
