    These are great recipes, but I think to really stay close to the $5.00 (or closer to $10.00 these days), you need to do a bit of planning. Decide which meals use some of the same ingredients, so you can use them more efficiently. For example, if a recipe calls for 1/2 cup of heavy cream, find another one that also needs cream so you don’t end up wasting the remainder of the carton. If you have 2 or 3 that call for broccoli, buying the larger bag is usually cheaper. Just a thought.

    • @martinmade08
      @martinmade08 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      This is true. An idea with the heavy cream is turn it into butter with your mixer. That’s what I do. Our butter is $6 for 2 cups (or 4 sticks).

      Larger bags aren’t cheaper anymore in most cases. Whipping cream can also be frozen for later use or made into ice cream or coffee beverage too. It makes a great cheese as well.

      Where I am larger amounts of Potatoes or cheese are still cheaper. I agree about making a meal plan for the week and then using stuff like eggs potatoes and cheese in multiple recipes to help bringing down the prices. But Food prices do seem to be rising really quickly so it might change.

      I did not realize u could freeze the heavy cream and it still be good. I don’t know WHY I didn’t realize it but it just never occurred to me Lolol. I freeze my milk a lot so I don’t have to buy it as often. Lol

      This is a great idea that I do everytime I make grilled cheese sammies, yum!! I use other spices to achieve the same yummy such as Lawreys Season Salt, onion and garlic powders, Montreal Steak Seasoning, oregano on the bread and in the tomato soup, gives it an Italian flavor profile, etc...the skys the limit!! I'd suggest experimenting with the seasonings u already have and, have fun!!💖💖💖

    I would 86 the carrots and add some of that left over salsa to the tortellini and maybe use less water to make it thicker.. sloppy joe = cup of ketchup, dollop of yellow mustard, splash of acv, dried onions and garlic.. you can add brown sugar if you want it sweeter or switch the ketchup for favorite bottled bbq sauce... costs half of manwich...no cheap corn? leave it out and use corn tortillas .. mayo on the grilled cheese instead of butter or save your bacon drippings for no cost and blast of flavor.. I add peppers and onions to the sweet potato bake and serve it in tortillas, its a camp favorite in a foil pouch .. breakfast for dinner is always a good thing, I recently made a pancake in a casserole dish with sausage, the brats didnt want eggs.."Pandemonium Palace, Pops prodigious pancake" talk about ez... the casserole quiche looked really good... my favorite part of a baked potato is the crisp skin, I have microwaved them part way and then put them in the toaster oven.. an air fryer would probably work but I dont have that or an instant pot... the rice and beans is ALMOST enough to make me get an instant pot!! I like a mix of black and cannellini/white beans in a lot of dishes especially with spanish rice and canned chicken or tuna in a burrito.. mini pizzas..86 the special sauce, mix spaghetti sauce and salsa or just add a little sugar and italian seasonings to the spaghetti sauce with a tiny splash of acv... the twice baked potato casserole sounds and looks delicious, maybe the skins dont need to be crunchy for that one.... yes I tend to write a LOT at times... I enjoyed the video and got a couple of good ideas to try at pandemonium palace

    It takes a little more time but tastes SO much better to make your own sloppy Joe sauce. I just use ketchup, BBQ sauce, worcestershire sauce, green peppers, brown sugar and a sloppy Joe spice packet. All of that to your taste. It always makes more than I need so I just freeze the rest. For my twist on the joes I take refrigerator biscuits push them into a muffin tin to make a cup, fill the biscuit cup with the sloppy Joe mixture ( with hamburger added) top with cheese and bake. It’s all in the video! She verbally gives the list of ingredients, including amounts, as she buys them. Then she shows how to make the soup step-by-step, including any “on hand” ingredients. And she shows, in writing, the cost broken down with ingredients and amounts. That’s the recipe! You can always go to the website and search for tortellini soup. This exact one doesn’t pop up, but there are several others to inspire you, too.

    Little secret when making sloppy joes, instead of using can sloppy joe mix, put a large squirt of ketchup, small squirt of mustard, then mix up in meat you can add some BBQ sauce too. It’s good and easy

    Butter the baking dish. Grate the skinned apples. Cut the stale rolls or French bread to 1/2 inch slices, cut in half. Mix the eggs, milk and a pinch of salt. Make a layer with the WELL moistened pieces of bread, next the apple layer, sprinkle with the sugar and cinnamon - adding the raisins and chopped walnuts is optional. Make as many layers as you want, ending with the bread, covered with the slices of butter. Bake at 350F about 1 hour or until the upper layer is nice and golden brown. Eat hot or cold. If it is too dry, add a bit of the hot milk, adjust the amount of milk the next time. You may put on a whipped cream.

    Skip the frosting and make icing since you already got milk? A pound of off brand powdered sugar is still super cheap and will have loads left.
