It's pretty lengthy, but I love this anime from the sound design to the characters and just how versatile and big the story is. Nothing like a lived in city.
@@jonghyxn5 same, after many years they made the sequel, but I couldn't follow it and I didn't want to see the last 2 seasons again... despite everything I liked it, for someone who sees it for the first time it may be more like it
@@MrSoeAAA the second half skips a lot from the books. It should have had another 3 seasons at least. Season 1 covered books 1-3 really well if a bit out of order. Seasons 2-4 cover books 4-13 they did it in three 13 episode seasons. Despite being rushed it was really good and is one of my favorite anime's
There's no other anime like Durarara . It has a unique vibe. Great music. The philosophical ways to apprehend nowadays things and the story wich cleverly intertwines all the characters lives are what made me fall for it. Just brilliant. It takes place in the modern world, as you noticed, with a bit of supernatural and mythological stuff. I didn't expect it at all first, but it is in fact a nice touch :) Thank you once again for your genuine reactions, they made my day !
The fans of this series were pretty interesting, someone made a website and app for all the fans to get together and chat and I talked to a lot of interesting people and even made a few friends through it. I did get kicked out of multiple chat groups because I told people I'm a Rick Astley fan and didn't mind getting Rickrolled
Durarara is such an awesome underrated series, it feels like anything I've seen before. It combines slice of life, supernatural, gangs and mafia with an urban scenario where something is always happening somewhere in that city
i think this anime is pretty unique features the cast = whole city district of people and it mixes gangs and the supernatural ops are bangers ED1 was also iconic
You should also check out all the Durarara endings! Despite the fact that most of them are technically a still image, it gives you some insight into the characters personalities!!
5:28 good observation! Bc there's more than one storyline. But they are (sometimes) intertwined with each other. It's a really fun and exciting show. Without spoiling I'd say that the show is about street gangs and life in Ikebukuro.
This is the first time I've seen someone react to these openings, this was one of my favourite anime's in highschool and I spent a ton of time on a fan made chat app that is similar to the one in the show. They do a really good job of following multiple story lines spread through different groups of people and then bringing it together seamlessly, I really recommend that you watch it.
It's a slow burning anime that deals with drama, gang fights, and the occult. It's one of my favorites n I've rewatched it at least 4 times. You'll probably like it in my opinion.
My favorite bit of trivia abut the series is that as it was being written by Ryohgo Narita his publisher asked what the title was and he just said "Durarara" randomly (theories state it was either pages being flipped or a car revving it's engine)
DRRR!! is one of my old faves, shame the "2nd" season was a bit rushed in pace, I had read the LN in between and vol 9 is a thing of legends. The twisted love story ends up being my favorite romantic anime for my non romantic heart, specially when you consider who has the most healthy relationship in the series. Complicated of course is in my all time favorites OPs
Been watching anime since i was a toddler, this series has always stuck out against the others for me. It became one of my all time favorites, it’ll always be important to me.
DuRaRaRa is one of the best, unique anime of its time. I'm still a little miffed they didn't accurately follow the light novel in the first season but the seasons after made up for it. The songs are great, the voice acting (Japanese) are *chef's kiss*, and the stories told from each character's perspective; it's just the best. To answer your question, I have indeed watched it an ungodly amount of times. xDDD
This is a very good series, and although I don't consider it to be either perfect nor a subjective favorite of mine, I do think this is a bit of a must-watch. It does a great job of working with a very large narrative consisting of lots of different characters all doing their own things along their own storylines (all with noticably different tones) simultaneously, at times going parallel with each other, other times intersecting in really satisfying ways, and ultimately all those threads come together to form one single story. There are very few shows like it. Another cool thing to note is that the seasons are named after the different stages of "Ki-Shou-Ten-Ketsu" ("Introduction-Development-Twist-Resolution"), an eastern story structure which is kind of like an alternative to the western "Freytag's Triangle" or Joseph Campbell's "Hero's Journey". To be more accurate, season 1, representing the "Ki" part, is simply called "Durarara!!", but the following seasons/cours are called "Durarara!!x2 Shou", "Durarara!!x2 Ten", and "Durarara!!x2 Ketsu" respectively. While this is just season naming and not anything that actually enhances the show itself, I think it's a pretty cool detail for them to add and more fun than simply having numbered seasons.
the author have another work called baccano at the start of that one a girl ask an old man who is the protagonist of the story the old man says that every character is the protagonist of their own lifes and the story is just a collection of events where all the protagonists interact with each other and that also describes durarara or something like that i may be missing some small details but last time i watched baccano was more than 10 years ago
this could be either 3rd or 4th rewatch for me inclouding all 5 ova's it has 65 episodes,so i try to rewatch it as often as possible, theres just no anime like it and i love it,plot is extremely well written
Black Lagoon openings pls, also Baccano is set in the same universe as Durarara I actually recommend Baccano first, it’s one season long, gives a story telling explanation at the end and some narration to help with storylines
Wholeheartedly rec the Baccano Opening and or ending. It's a short series, and it goes spectacularly with Durarara (the creator made both series) Glad people are checking out Durarara still!
It is lengthy. There are a few supernatural elements to it, but in many aspects you hit the nail on the head. It is about life a district of Tokyo, Ikebukuro with people fromm walks of life and their stories intersecting. There is a bit more focus on the underworld and shady dealings, but overall the tapestry of city life is pretty dense and has all kinds of people whose lifesare all connected in some way.
It's about all the things you mentioned plus many more. Actually I like another show which is in the same universe but in a different historic period - Baccano. Its opening is interesting too.

I think you should check out the op of Kokkoku. I haven't watched the show and from what I've heard it's apparently not particularly good, but the op is absolutely amazing and the vibe is immaculate. The full song is called flashback by myavi vs kenken.
I think that despite its problems it was a good anime, it starts strong, the concept and characters are interesting, the problem may be towards the end, it feels rushed and since it takes a wild turn the conclusion probably feels unsatisfactory

honestly, sometimes the "main character" of Durarara sort of shifts to anyone and everyone else. They all have so much focus and so much importance
First opening is legendary! Brings back some amazing memories
OMG DURARARA😍 I didn't expect this!! I love this anime for 6 years 🙇🏻 And the openings are brilliant.
This anime is unique because it is based on novels, not manga. (btw the novels are brilliant and I'm glad it was published in my native language).

In this anime the city is a character with 15 protagonists ❤
Every character has their own story and this anime covers each story and how they interact/intersect. That idea is also takes place in Baccano.
