I love glycolic acid for face but it's a pass for underarms ❌ The use of glycolic acid on underarms is generally not recommended for individuals with darker skin tones due to the potential risk of hyperpigmentation or darkening of the skin. Darker skin tones tend to be more prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which is the darkening of the skin that occurs after inflammation or irritation. Glycolic acid is an exfoliating agent that can help improve skin texture and tone, but it can also cause irritation and increased sensitivity, especially in sensitive areas like the underarms. When applied to darker skin tones, the risk of triggering hyperpigmentation is higher, as the melanocytes (pigment-producing cells) in darker skin are more reactive. It is important for individuals with darker skin tones to be cautious when using strong exfoliants like glycolic acid in sensitive areas such as the underarms. It’s advisable to consult with a dermatologist or skincare professional who can provide personalized recommendations based on your specific skin type and concerns.
Yes, like you pointed it out, these parts are darker due to thicker skin meant to protect areas that are prone to friction. High time we accept our bodies wholly.
This product did wonders to my tanned hands, elbows, knees and underarms.I just use it 3times per week.I’m a yellowish not much fair skinned indian. For skin and hair care please see what works for you as everyone’s body is different.
Yeah so true! For most girls having a darker skin tone in their underarms is a matter of low self-esteem because of the sick beauty standards that are being promoted by our society.
Darker skinned people can react negatively to kojic and positively to glycolic as well. You can inform the public without absolutes like “never use…” and still get the message across effectively. The kojic alternative is nice but tips on how to introduce something that may be harsh to you as well would be better for next time.
i used this for 4 months with no issues almost DAILY once before sleeping, and it actually brightened my underarms i was so happy, then suddenly it caused me baddd itchiness for weeks on end and i assumed it was some food related but i decided to stop using it and around 2 weeks later my itchiness stopped, but i genuinely need another solution to dark underarms
do NOT use it daily if you have sensitive or lighter skin (no, im not talking about WHITE skin i mean skin that isn't super dark)... it can cause chemical burns so use it once or twice a weak and apply some sort of moisturizer or vitamin C and in the day time apply SPF bc it might lead to even worse hyperpigmentation if exposed to the sun
People keep applying things outside their body but many fail to understand that food habits, lifestyle, mental and internal health is equally important for glowing and healthy skin.
This is much needed content for us Indians specially girls these days... they're crazy'about getting every part of their body not only fair but also free from hair.

I’ve noticed that whenever I shave- my underarms get darker, more sensitive, and irritation and chaffing happens which leads to darkening of skin. Contrary to when I wax or epilate. Waxing and epilation actually makes my armpits soft and keeps the shade constant. I wouldn’t use any acids on sensitive areas and rather try natural remedies and only wax/epilate.
Works fine to help control the odor for me. And I have darker skin (just a bit darker than yours, actually). I use it every other day. Not everyone’s skin will react the same way.

Shaving can cause dark underarms. The hairs grow back blunt which causes lots of irritation if you have thick hair. It's better to epilate and use an alcohol free antiperspirant. My underarms look so good since I switched.
Yes, it’s obviously normal, but undesired. We don’t have to normalize things we find undesirable … also, it’s fine to use this toner. Then I use a light exfoliate toner like the skin1004 centella toner to exfoliate the area. Tried this every 2 days for a week and it went from dark brown+grey to near skin brown.
It got rid of my odor for 100% , I used alcohol to clean the area for my armpit and around it first then took a regular shower then applied glycolic acid on my armpit and around it, then applied moisturizer cream around the area but not directly on my armpit. I don't use deodorant now and the area smell fresh not moisty.
