I have one of these pedals and it's amazing. The versatility and sounds created with different pickups. I also Dig the light sky-blue guitar. That looks and sounds amazing. Thanks, guys, for the video.

    Lifted from TDPRI:
"I got my Caline CP-12 Pure Sky from China a couple of days ago so I thought I'd take it apart and see what made it tick. First, it was nice to see through-hole components for experimentation if desired. I was also able to verify that it was indeed a Timmy (no big surprise), without the extra two clipping diodes and switch, and without the goofy off-center reference bias. The chip was a socketed JRC4559.
One more exception to the Timmy would be the operation of the Bass and Treble controls. They operate with the more conventional CW=more rotation, rather than the 'backwards' cut controls. The Bass and Treble pots are 50KC and 10KC tapers, respectively. The rest of the components (that matter) checked out against the Timmy schematic. The bias resistor going to pin 3 was 470K instead of the Timmy 510K. I've never verified the Timmy was 510K either, but the difference is insignificant.
The pedal sounds as good as any Timmy I've built, probably because I don't use the extra clipping diodes or off-set bias either, and I also wire the Tone controls the same way.
Enough about the Good. Now for the Bad. Quality SUCKS. The board was wave soldered, and the pots were hand soldered. The wave solder process had a bad temperature profile (from my manufacturing experience) because there was excessive solder on the wave side (bottom) and very little if any wicking through the plated holes and up the component leads. The hand soldering of the pots was just as bad. It looked as though they used a solder with a huge diameter, which causes you to use too much before it wicks through the plated holes. There were solder balls all over the back side of the board, excessive solder, and leads that were poorly trimmed, leaving a potential for shorting.
The socketed chip was not fully seated on one side, and most components looked like a 3-year-old was shown how to insert them.
The screws holding the bottom plate on were either not long enough or the holes were tapped wrong. There are nice looking threads at the tops of each hole, but the screws fall straight through them to the bottom of the hole where they only catch between 1 and 3 threads. One screw doesn't catch any threads with the cover on.
I hate the plastic jacks because there is barely enough thread for the nuts to secure them tightly. It looked very much like the Lovepedals and many others who need to design for fast assembly. I could be wrong, but I didn't see any connection where they could have used the metal box as an advantage for shielding the way that Boss does. The power jack is also PC mounted the way many seem to be now.
The paint and graphics were nice, and the knobs used hex set screws. The 3P3T switch looked like the same quality switches the on-line parts retailers sell.
After a few minutes dressing up the board and resoldering a few connections, it is now probably as good as many products of higher initially quality, but that's probably why it got a Timmy delivered to my door for $32 including shipping. I'll loose one of the screws eventually, but I got what I paid for. Now I can modify it."

Man- this drive gets so much praise form everyone and sounds so good on the demos- I've got to check it out. I like Caline stuff usually- they're surprisingly good for the price and I've never had an issue with any of their stuff. And really, I shouldn't just say "good for the price" some of their stuff is just good period- I'd pay a lot more for it and still love it. Mosky is the same way- their Silver Horse klon clone is amazingly good, and their version of the diamond Compressor is shockingly good. Which is unusual, a budget compressor is hard to find- one that's any good any way- this one rocks. It has a "clipping" knob on it so- you can use it to clip the signal if you're using a low output pickup and looking for some heat. Or, if the compression is causing distortion that you don't want because you're running hotter pickups- you can get rid of it. I hardly use it anymore because the amp I just bought has a lot of natural compression on board, I don't really need it anymore. But if I run one my solid state amps, I still use it.

I have owned the Pure Sky for 2 years now. >> It emulates the most compressed setting on the Timmy from what I read.
Bought it along the Mooer Hustle (OCD clone).
The first time I played through the Caline, the cleans felt 'velvet-y', balanced and so smooth.
I didn't like the overdrive and never will.. it's NOT touch sensitive, is muddy and lacks note separation when driven.
Because of all this, I like the OCD more as it reacts to your playing dynamics much more and cleans up great just with your touch.
However, the Pure Sky is great for EQ'ing and is very transparent..
It also functions really well to reduce the volume for late night playing (Master volume of sorts)..
I love playing through it because it has that subtle compression which feels like playing on velvet.. and the string to string balance is so sweet...
7th and 9th chords played in a jazz/ finger plucked manner sound really beautiful with it.
    Do try that someday.

The only pro0blem with this line of reason is that every manufacturer- including the most top of the line stuff out there- makes lemons. This is why we have TH-cam channels and gear communities-- so you can check and see what the overall, general experience most ppl have is- not just your own. And if you do that concerning Caline pedals, you'll see that issues are actually very rare. I use several of their pedals- used them when I was gigging 5 days a week- and they held up with no problems. Not every pedal they make is great, some I don't care for but- there's no issues with quality or longevity, they hold up fine. And sometimes- just like the big expensive guys- they happen to hit the jackpot and come up with something really good- like this pedal. Your prerogative but, imo you're going to miss out on a lot of great gear if you make judgements based on one transaction or one piece of gear. Rock on man.

These Pure Sky does what a Timmy does, for sure, without the clipping options. However, they don't come across as 'flat' or 'transparent' as a Timmy does. I got one with the highest of hopes. IT SUCKS AZZ!
If there is ANY bass content in my signal, it just FARTS out. There is nothing I can do to keep it from farting out. I'm primarily using single coil Strat pickups - not known for their booming lows!
I don't mean it makes a sound I personally don't like... it is a completely unmusical, unusable sound.
I've put an eq pedal before it, and cut ALL of the bass and it doesn't fart out, but the guitar signal sounds like a mosquito, and is useless except for the most special of special effects. Completely unusable as a guitar sound.
I've heard the same complaint from so many users of the Blue Sky, but I see demos where this bass thing doesn't happen... I don't know what is going on.
Are the reviews honest and real?
Or, are there several makes of the Caline Blue Sky, and some are just REALLY cheap knockoffs?
Or, are half of the Caline Blue Skys just broken new in the box?
This was such a disappointment for me, I was literally giddy when I received the package, as I've flown close to a divorce repeatedly buying (affordable/used/cloned) supposedly low gain overdrives... none of which are transparent enough, no massive mid hump, or just a weird high mids harshness that can't be effectively eq'ed out in the mix (let alone live with pedal/amp eq), and low gain enough to get me what I'm looking for, right on the edge of breakup, letting lighter single notes to pass with just a little push, but harder single notes to hairify, and chords to break up a bit but still clear enough to hear each individual note in the chord, and the full tonality of the harmony of the chord itself. I just want to finally stop searching.
I have to say, after 6 years of experience with cheap Chinese knock off guitar pedals... they suck, its not worth it. That's not a philosophical opinion, a political opinion, a moral or ethical opinion, as clearly I'm willing to skip the American pedals that cost as much as a used car and buy the work product of Chinese slaves... this is entirely service of self, it is just a bang for your buck thing, trying to achieve sounds you couldn't otherwise achieve due to lack of funds.
About half of the Chinese pedals have arrived broken in some way, footswitch fails after the tenth time you step on it, the output is intermittent, it arrives as just a brick - won't turn on, or just fails after a couple months of use. That's about half of what I've received. The other half.. I just don't like their sound once the honey moon is over, and I can actually listen and record, and listen to the recordings... there is just a flatness there, or a weird tonal mix that just doesn't work, it gets under my skin.
True, I don't like a lot of pedals... again, not a detached theoretical opinion, I'm not that guy that is all flex, like "all my gain needs to come from my amp"... my amp's clean channel remains clean all the way to police involvement, I can't get any breakup out of it, at all. My amp's crunch channel starts at full tilt, unhinged plexi (but doesn't even sound good like a proper plexi) and almost immediately progresses into caved in, indiscernible mush from there. I won't even mention the lead channel, it is an abomination.
I HAVE to get my gain from pedals. And when younger, in bands, I was way, way into pedals (not that I could afford them then either, broke college student, trying to afford rent near school in the poshest of LA), when there was just Boss and DOD, really, George Tripps was just getting started tweaking pedals in his living room down the street from me. SO, I'm totally pro pedal, and if I could afford $250-300 dollar (and above, honestly) pedals, I'm sure I'd be happy with my pedal sound.
I love the VERY wide spectrum of fuzzes, and just base level sound quality I can get out of my Swollen Pickle, and I love the creepy or beautiful atmospherics I can get out of my EQD Afterneath. But, that is what 'm talking about, those are higher dollar pedals. The interior of the Swollen Pickle is a thing of Beauty! And has a sound quality to match. And the Afterneath is a spendy American made pedal, so it should have a quality sound, and it does, in spades. These are the only two quality pedals I own, that I actually like the sound of.
Okay, I'm going to do it, recount all the Chinese pedals that I've purchased (and that I can recall):
    1. Caline Blue Sky: Arrived broken, cannot function with any amount of bass in the signal (I've since read countless accounts of this phenomenon, so its not just luck me).
    2. Joyo Ultimate Drive - footswitch went bad about ten presses in. Pedal wouldn't work from there. And while it worked, it was way too gainy -
    3. Delamo (I think the brand was called) delay- came missing screws, but it does function... but only as a really, really lofi delay pedal.
    3. Little Bear Wooly Mammoth (or whatever it is called, the zvex knock off) - doesn't sound or work like the zvex, can't get the sounds I wanted to achieve that I heard from the zvex. AND it doesn't really work on bass as I intended. I actually use it for guitar. The pots are cheap and will soon start to crackle and introduce noise after only a couple of years, and I don't even use it that much, and I know this because:
    4. Little Bear Rat - three rats in one, vintage, turbo, and a modern rat, I believe. I liked the sound of this pedal, I used it with very low distortion, found it to be the most touch sensitive, low gain pedal, surprisingly. And it did good higher gain too, AND three versions of RAT too! I liked this pedal... but the knobs now crackle when turning, and when static, introduce noise, and the output has become intermittent. So, I'm bummed. I've played 2, LITTLE gigs with any of these pedals, btw, no gigs with most of them, I just use them to write and record in the studio, so they're getting no actual use and abuse.
    5. Twin Note Pi - a discontinued pedal brand, I think it was a NUX brand, and NUX seems to have blown up and charges a lot for their pedals, so they killed their other brands. This pedal works, I've barely used it, rumored to be a Catlin Bread Abra Cadabra clone, excuse my spelling, but gain at 9 o'clock is the most gain that I can use, its heavy, heavy gain there, beyond it is pitchless near white noise. Maybe it is something metal heads with their metal guitars and metal amps know how to use? I've barely used this pedal, but it does work.
    6. Cuvave Fuzz - From 60 Cycle Hum back in the day, it was a really affordable, out of control, belligerent gated fuzz. I loved the sound of it, ordered one... mine is just a flat sounding, boring fuzz, runs at 5v, I believe, doesn't gate at all. Apparently Cuvave took a resistor off the board because people complained it was gating, and I think they figured out how to bias it "properly" rendering it useless to me. Mine still works because I don't use it... because it sounds so bad.
    7. MoVall - Falling Star - same as the Delamo Delay, same chip, I'm sure, that karaoke chip, very noisy, super lofi, this delay has a modulation capability which is cool, but the pedal I received is absolutely flat, like each delay repeat is flat, I can feed it punchy, dynamic notes, and the repeats come out totally flat, no impact whatsoever. God, I miss my Boss delays. ALSO, this pedal is unusable, broken, intermittent output, arrived this way. Brand new and broken. Oh, yeah, they got their schematic mixed up, and the modulation time knob is wired backwards, its just a bonus!
    8. MoVall - Interplanetary Blues... is that the name? I think it is supposed to be a Marshall Blues Breaker pedal clone, you know where the gain knob controls tone and the tone knob does nothing except a little gain. Had hopes for this one, but it is noisy before you add gain, and there is something just off in the gain it adds, its that harsh thing, in the high mids, its like the pedal is untuned, like a real pedal designer and maker tunes a circuit by ear, trying out different values of components, as well as different manufacturers and technologies of components, to find just the right sound. I don't think that is the case with these Chinese pedal companies, I think they get a circuit diagram of a pedal they want to clone, figure out all the components they can eliminate by cutting corners, like no over voltage/polarity protection, and just slap in whatever the very cheapest components they can source, never minding how they sound, as they don't even know what good guitar tone is, the guitar being a weapon of western imperialists. This pedal suffers from this condition, like it behaves like a Blues Breaker, but doesn't really sound like one. ALSO, even with the original, you have to gain it up pretty far before it opens up, before highs come in, so maybe the circuit is not the best choice for me, looking for very low gain breakup. And I took this pedal off my pedal board because its output was going intermittent. I'm not 100% on this pedal being the problem, as the Little Bear Rat was not on but in the loop and its a known intermittent pedal, but when I removed the Interplanetary Blues, the problem went away, so I'm fairly certain, but I haven't confirmed it 100% by testing, though intermittent electrical problems are a pain in the azz to pin down. I was just so disgusted that I got scammed again, buying two brand new broken Chinese pedals. Most people would say, ah, forget it, its just $60 bucks, but that is meat we won't be buying this month. It hurts.
So, do you know what I'm saying now, why I think, on the balance, these Chinese pedals are not worth it? China certainly is capable of producing quality electronics, and I'm sure they could produce good guitar pedals and at considerably lower prices... but stupid people like me keep buying Chinese garbage because of hope, crushing inflation, and demos like this, so there is no incentive for these companies to produce pedals at a higher tier of sound quality, and reliability.

This would have to be the longest comment I have ever received 😜
I’m really sorry that these pedals don’t seem to work for you - I bought my Pure Sky on eBay, it arrived in one piece and sounds great! We even did a shootout video with it…Pure Sky, MXR Timmy and Vemuram Jan Ray and it held up really well. In saying that…I don’t use it on a really regular basis so I’m not sure how the switch would hold up to regular use?!? I live in a really humid area and all my pedals - from the cheapest to the most expensive and pretty much all my guitar volume and tone pots make scratchy noises after a while - I always have some contact cleaner on hand…that should get rid of that!
I think that one of the main issues with a lot of Chinese made “budget” gear is a lack of quality control. There have been a few comments where people say that their pedal arrived broken…but a lot of those companies are quite good at giving you a new pedal if you have one arriving with issues!!
As for, are demos honest? All I can say is that I demo what’s in front of me…you can hear what it sounds like in the demo…we never “fix” anything in post…and if we get something that’s broken we usually mention that it originally arrived broken - I think that may have only ever happened once?!?
Like I said, I’m very sorry that this happens to you - hopefully you will find something that will work for you soon - keep us posted!
