I don't care what people say, I love Dusty forever and ever!! and of course i love this performance,
Dusty Springfield is in very fine voice. This is a great medley. She was fantastic. Oh, how I miss her!
Nothing like Dusty live and had that privilege in 82 @ LA Greek Theater same year that sadly overlooked masterpiece White Heat lp was released...greatest concert experience of a lifetime...all time greatest blue-eyed soul singer...Bravo Dusty...you are missed!
Dusty`s voice could melt butter in a refrigerator.......
What a voice - R.I.P Dusty - thanks for the music and all the beautiful memories I can unite with your songs and I hope we met you sometimes in heaven und I m sure that we listen to you sweet music again
Thank you for sharing this. Knowing Dusty's whole life (yes, folks, do your research before you comment), this a wonderful, rare view of her in 1985.
One of the most underestimated female vocalists ever!
I had the great pleasure of getting to know Dusty during the early '80's. She could be difficult due to her demons at the time, but it was one of the highlights of my life. I will always remember her as Mary O'Brien as well as Dusty. A very, very special woman, indeed. I believe she found some peace before her death and I am so glad of that. RIP, Mary.
Just wondering if you can elaborate on how you knew Dusty ? Do you remember that car she drove?
And did you know Carole or Teda? Had she sold her house on Dona Therese yet ?Love hearing stories about the life and times of our Dusty !😘
Even though we have her recordings...I wish she were still with us....For me the best singer EVER!!!
So glad I grew up at the same time as Dusty, she's irreplacable and unforgetable, Love & miss yer Lass,
R.I.P Ray ♥
Have always loved and her great talent and who are we to judge her lifestyle. In all my lifetime I've never ever met a perfect human being . Long live her talent .
Considering Dusty made classics in 78, 79 & 82 with no industry support, by 85 before the Pet Shop Boys put her back on top where she belonged, Dusty must have been frustrated & rightfully so...still magical, Dusty is a legend and this is a treat!
I'm glad you got to know her and that she apparently had a terrific sense of humor about herself. A voice as hypnotic and other-worldly as she possessed, she. at least, recognized what WE saw in her, unlike a self destructive soul as Michael you-know-who. She must have been a smasher as they say in the UK.
Thanks for your sanity! It's sad that her true fans cannot see her for the beautiful, yet flawed, human being that she was. Ever the performer, it took guts, and a need for cash to go out and try to "laugh and giggle" her way through lots of these songs. I love her, always will, but I love the woman, not the myth.
DUSTY, MAGIC, PURE MAGIC.
Fabalous darling! x
you're missed dusty
one of the greatest !!!!
bless you soul sister Dusty x
i want to met you in heaven, one day, dusty.
I love her she is such a babe at any age! Her voice is smokin' hot. I feel like we were cheated somehow since she was performing in England! Why not more here in the states?
I love her regardless!!
She was really a versatile singer and with a great vocal range and she was so.beautiful and photogenic (even if I don't like that outfit as well hair)
At the time this was made she was heavy into drugs and mental problems due to her not being able to fully come to terms with being a lesbian. She was in a violent relationship with a woman in California in the 1980's. But Dusty overcame all and had a smashing come back in the late 80's with the Pet Shop Boys. Dusty, we love you and may you rest in peace.
At her worst. There were plenty of people, at the time, who thought this show proved she was finished, Thank god PSB proved otherwise.
Pretty earings...about her voice, she had a gorgeous and sultry vocal type when she talked too,and when she sang, she sang as she wrote "her " songs
Ok, this is not Dusty's finest live vocal moment, but it's not the trainwreck some people here seem to think. She had trouble at times, but at others (like "I Close My Eyes and Count to Ten"), she sounds like the old Dusty. I'm glad by the time PSB brought her back, she had pulled herself together, and her career had a rewarding, successful final act.
my only gripe from is that outfit- like a cross between a Solid Gold dancer and Mad Max: Beyond the Thunderdome. But hey, it was the 80's...
I see you get negative results from what you say ! But you are right....also, nerves can step in...and that makes breathing difficult. Dusty is gasping for air at times !
What a great lady though, there will never be another Dusty.
In the late 70s or 80s I saw a show with Leslie Gore where she wore more or less the same pant suit as Dusty... that's when I really did realize (to my delight) that these (my idols) were gay. Of course, years and years later, we know. Power to these ladies.
@bradly2007 Too true..she was so lovely and talented!
I am charmed by the uniqueness of Helen Shapiro's contralto and you could be correct in some ways but "power" isn't necessarily the most crucial factor in pop music. One could say Dusty's ability to convey mood and emotion in her vocals outweighs the importance of "power".
Actually Dusty had throat problems a few weeks before this live performance, so she did a really good job if though she got a bit lost with son of a Preacher man...and at the last minute replaced Sometimes like Butterflies with Quiet Please, which with hindsight was a good decision. Dusty copied her punky look on a girl that worked in Stringfellows office. Needless to say Dust was exhausted after this performance. A Diva! A star! Our Dusty......greatly missed!
Good god, she looks like Khan Singh.
KHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNnnnnnn!!!
@wilco9971 no excuse ,Shirly Bassey's been singing over 50 years now,and just gets better.
her song with the Pet Shop Boys was closer to 85 or 86 I think.
dusty come back 1982 with the pet shop boys
The Voice is still OK. But, what does Dusty look like? Hardly recognisable from her 60`s / 70`s hey day. Thanks for the memory.
@bradly2007 Well said!
Also, keep in mind that this is is a square screen stretched wide. Not flattering.
@burnley5960 I don't really see that as correct. In what way was Helen better? (even though I really enjoy Ms. Shapiro!)
Show some respect!
Me.
StepheninLondon, you really need to sort out this resolution problem. you appear to be selecting the wrong resolution for most of your uploads, causing them to be squashed. Upload at resolution 640x480. Are you sure your resolution is correct before upload?
This isn't a good video if you want to see Dusty the singer-her voice gives out a few times, her phrasing is off occasionally and she makes some questionable aesthetic choices on Preacher Man-but it's a great video for Dusty the performer because she can win you over anyway.
I have to say, though, despite not being at her best vocally, she nails "Look of Love."
Oooh!! Yes he was.. a sweet talking son of a bitch! :)
was he the first to dress up in glam or something? cause this looks old.
U.s.a there?
It's so sad about the elephant in the room...
She's only 45 here, but the cigarettes have stolen her voice...
serious shoulder pads! But she sounds great :)
She sounds virtually the same, I have no idea of what you're talking about. We're used to hearing the studios, it's not going to sound the same as a live performance.
Franklin's voice, however, is nothing like it was in the 60s and 70s. It's still remarkable but hers did change and not for the better. Dusty's voice sounds the exact same at least to these ears.
you clearly have never heard of her before because if you knew you would not be asking such a ridiculous question.
Being gay does not affect the voice, I hear.
Too bad ab out the screen stretch distortion. Her shoulders make her look like a linebacker...ah the 80's.
Her vibes are amazing. Still got her sweet voice. And what a sense of humour she has about herself. That makes her 100% successful.
I hate these medleys - they just sell these excellent songs short.
Octoberohio you are talking such crap clean your ears out !
She's still Dusty. But if you really can't hear the difference in her voice...you need some q-tips!
(Listen to Lulu's "to sir with love" 40 years later-she still has it.)
I'm sorry, but Dusty's voice (not talent) is gone. You find yourself trying to help her along...uncomfortable.
And again, sad. Don't mean I don't love 'er!
You are so wrong!
You know nothing
