  • A quick look at my bulkhead before I do some rust repairs and give it a fresh coat of paint. What kind of quality control does LR have in place??

Land Rover really don’t give a shit about their customers as soon as they have the money and you’ve driven off the forecourt, it’s a disgusting attitude from them!
Like you say, that bulkhead is shocking😡😡

It’s not just Land Rover all modern 4x4 brands seemed to have use poor quality metal. Plus the paint comes off with a sneeze.
I think the puma bulkheads were made using robots. I remember seeing footage on here.
The early pre td5 defenders certainly have better metalwork and my 87 still has the original paint on the chassis.

Im surprised your gonna refit that nige, considering all the brilliant work you have done so far. Id be tempted to take the
bulkhead back to the dealer and demand a new one.. You never know you might get lucky...

Not worth the bother mate. I'll get nowhere.. 10 years old and fit for purpose. None of it can be seen on the truck so it's no detracting from the value..

I really don't understand JLR's policy. I agree that the Defender concedes nothing to unnecessary luxury given the concept behind the vehicle. But that parts of the chassis, hardware, bumpers of a vehicle that should defy time rust after less than three years of more than comfortable use, it makes no sense. Does JLR rely heavily on the new "Defender"? I see the future of this company very bleak, and not only because of the international economic crisis. Thanks Nigel!

For sure, the quality of the paint on everything that isn't painted green is disgusting. The rear crossmember warpage, lack of weld prep and no anti corrosion protection on the chassis is terrible and my Transfer box was probably assembled by an apprentice on his first day. And.. don't get me started on the bulkhead!! If you read Land Rover mags and follow the "How To" articles, you'll see that every JLR product is the same.. underbody brackets etc are always rusty, often rotten.

That's typical modern Landy "kwalitee"....and they think putting 85 computers in the new "Defender" is a good idea....

Often wondered how any painted hinge of that type can be expected to last, think c2v hinges are similar, surly a better option is out there

I thought Landie's bodies were all aluminium?

No mate, bulkheads have always been steel. Rest of body was aluminium until Td5 when they changed doors for plated steel. Then with the Puma they made the bonnet steel too.

What a shock! Not impressed for a bulkhead that's only about 10 years old. There's hand-built and there's thrown-together. I think that comes from the latter category. Good luck sorting that out

I wont be doing anything with it Andy. It is what it is.. hasn't cracked, rusted or fallen apart so it's "fit for purpose" as they say in legal world.
