I noticed on my sons corsa that it would take a little longer to start engine & when it was started i let it idle for about 5mins then turned car off then started the car , it started instantly so i got the thought that maybe something was starving the system somehow . It seems that when the car was warmer & the oil was hotter that it would start on point. The harder start has nothing to do with that valve, leave it alone. It is possible that the EGR does not close perfectly every time. If the engine has some miles, it is possible that the timing chain is stretched, and the camshafts are no longer perfectly synchronized. A small difference in synchronization can sometimes cause longer starts.
This is a normal sound in all these engines, it is because of no oil pressure on startup, the issue is more noticeable when the chain is worn, not so much when everything is new and tight, that valve isn't the problem, there is always going to be no oil pressure on startup for 1-3sec, the actual problem with these engines is that the timing chain tensioner is a very bad design, it has no ratchet mechanism in them so that on every startup the chain is loose and rattles it also causes the chain to flutter while running causing the chain to prematurely wear out, if there was a ratchet in them it would keep the chain tight until oil pressure builds up. The only proper fix for these engines would be a redesigned tensioner with ratchet and maybe a wider thicker chain and guides, it is a shame no one has come up with any mod kits yet. Best thing for these engines is to change the timing chain ,guides and sprockets every 30-40k miles, unfortunately it's the only thing that actually works.
It make sense what you are saying. The weird thing in my case is that the chain it is in a very good shape, I opened the cover and it is rock solid, can't move it even if I pull harder.
@@CorsaDForever thats the spring tension of the valve springs and tensioner sping combined, there is no one way check valve in the tensioner so when the engine is off the tension goes straight away. If you turn the engine at the crankshaft you will notice the chain loosens and tightens at certain points, if there was a rachet in the tensioner it would stay tight all the time.

Interesting video - Thanks a lot :) My Corsa D (1.2L, 59Kw - 80PS) has exactly the same sound on cold start - sometimes (especially in cold weather). It is nearly impossible to find the valve in Germany - so i have to buy a new oil filter housing (around 100€ - original Opel) - to buy a used one is a bit to risky for me.
Very rarely is it this problem, its 99% the timing chain. There's no harm in checking the housing and cleaning it but it won't cure the start up rattle. This is due to the chain being worn combined with a weak tensioner. The only real cure for these engines both the 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4 is a new chain kit. They're not expensive and very easy to fit..

Do you recommend to remove complete oil filter housing or you recommend to remove valve with filter housing mounted on engine? Please recommend. Many thanks
To remove the oil filter housing for Corsa D you have to remove first the exhaust/catalytic converter (there are 2 unreachable hidden nuts behind the edge of exhaust manifold). My original plan was to replace the entire filter housing, but I tried to avoid this, as the exhaust nuts are often difficult to remove. If you have a new filter housing, I recommend that you replace it completely. Sometimes when you try to remove only the valve, it may break.

Hi! I have a question. I have a problem with the late extinguishing of the oil pressure light after an overnight and even after a 2-hour standstill. Usually, the indicator light turns off after 4-5 seconds. Until it stalls, the engine runs louder. Could this valve have any effect on my problem? Thanks!
Hi there! Yes, this valve can be the cause. But there may also be other reasons related to the oil pressure. First check with a manometer the oil pressure at engine start, idle and revved with the engine cold and after reaching the operating temperature.
Today I unscrewed the oil filter about 1.5 hours after turning off the hot engine. There was very little oil in the filter base chamber and the filter itself was practically dry. What does it mean? The valve is broken? How much oil should there be?
The valve no longer holds the oil properly, but if the engine sounds good after start is not a big issue. If you are worried about it, you can replace the valve.
@@CorsaDForever It is heard until the oil indicator light goes out and the engine is running louder. I had the entire timing kit replaced, tappets and the oil pump cleaned, along with checking its valve. The pressure was right. Therefore, I am looking for the cause of the late extinguishing of the light and a dry engine start.
When you take.the oil filter out, are you saying that because it's almost dry that is a bad thing after 36 hours? Was you expecting it to be dropping oil off the filter after.36 hours.or.somethimg?
Hey friend at 0:02 you mention after several investigations you decided this was the problem. What things did you do first before deciding on this? I'm just not sure if mine is this issue or timing chain you and want to rule things out.
These are very problematic cars that are best avoided. On my Astra, the sound of the chain is heard, often at low revs, when starting and while driving. Opel/GM invented a gasket under the chain tensioner, but I find information that even after installing that gasket, the problem with the chain can often return. My question is, maybe the main problem is not in the gasket and chain tensioner, but in the oil pump that does not create strong enough pressure at low rpms. And can the pump be set to give higher pressure, since it is variable and dependent on rpm?
If you start to hear the chain, it means that it has started to stretch. In the meantime, I changed the timin chain and now there is total silence. It is true that the lubrication system is not the strong point of these engines. I heard that some would do some tricks and increase the pressure, but it didn't tempt me to try.
My corsa is also making that sound but when the engine is warm, do you know what that could be? I have changed the timing chain two years ago and now that sound is back anly when the engine is warm. I see most of the people have the probleem when the engine is cold.
Most likely worn hydraulic lifters make that sound. When the engine is hot, the oil is thinner and not held by the lifters. There may also be low oil pressure, better check this first.
@@CorsaDForeverI am getting now the oil pressure light on, I think the engine has not enough oil pressure. Is there anything I can do to fix the pils pressure.

My original plan was to replace the entire filter housing, but I tried to avoid this, as the exhaust nuts are often difficult to remove. If you have a new filter housing, I recommend that you replace it completely. Sometimes when you try to remove only the valve, it may break.
@@CorsaDForever many thanks for fast response, but my plan is just to buy only new valve, so my plan is just remove valve. I hope that I won’t break it. You sait that valve from ford is straigth fit, with nu.: 3c3z6800a?
@@AljazK yes, that valve is for Corsa D above 2007. If you have the thin and long oil filter housing is ok, otherwise is not. The old valve pins may break when is removed, but don't worry, the pieces eventually will go in the oil sump, won't block anything. The new one it will fit easy, put some oil on it first and push it straight.

Did you find a solution???
Did you solved the problem???
The oil pan has been cleaned? The pick-tube may be clogged and not sucking the oil properly.
i have a 1.4 corsa, the engine sounds broken on startup. is this worth doing?
If the engine sound bad only for 3-4 seconds and after that is ok, don't bother. I did it judt because I was extremely curious.
My oil filter housing is leaking from the cap. what could be the problem?
Try to tide it a bit more. If still leaking after, the rubber gasket might be damaged.
When you take.the oil filter out, are you saying that because it's almost dry that is a bad thing after 36 hours? Was you expecting it to be dropping oil off the filter after.36 hours.or.somethimg?
Yes. It shouldn't be that dry.
@@CorsaDForever but wouldn't the oil after 36 hours have drained back into the oil pan.
@@evieemaya88 normally shouldn't drain that fast. Maybe after a week is acceptable, it will go slowly.
@@CorsaDForever thanks for this and when you remove it, are you simply just pulling on it and then to refit is just a push back in?
@@evieemaya88 you have to pull very carefully, most of the time is not pulling up in one piece.
Hey friend at 0:02 you mention after several investigations you decided this was the problem. What things did you do first before deciding on this? I'm just not sure if mine is this issue or timing chain you and want to rule things out.
I removed the black top cover to see the chain. It was stretched with no play.
@@CorsaDForever I wonder how long will it drive in silence before you start to hear chain rattle once again. 1 year, 2 at best?
I do not know. I'm curious to find out.
So did you had to replace hydraulic lifters as well?
No. They are good, no need for replacement.
@@CorsaDForever thanks for the quick answer👍
@@1987liridon i have the same issue, did you solve the problem?
@@jeffsb010 No, not yet. It actually just getting worse. How about you, did you solve the problem?
@@CorsaDForeverI am getting now the oil pressure light on, I think the engine has not enough oil pressure. Is there anything I can do to fix the pils pressure.
Do you need to drain the oil before you do this or ?
No need.
@@CorsaDForever i replaced the valve but it still makes that noise but not as long
@@MadSniper553 could be a weak timing chain tensioner, but after is filling with oil is working properly.
Can you tell me the sizes of the spring in the bottom valve (the one where the seal is)? - mine is missing...
@@CorsaDForever the one at 3:20
Ok, sorry I was wrong, let me check and I will update the sizes.
@@CorsaDForever Thank you very much, i’ve just bought a used one and i realized that there is no spring, where could i get one?
@@tamasilles2951 This one has 15.8 mm in diameter, 24 mm height, 900 μ thickness 4 spirals. The diameter can be slightly smaller, but not bigger than that size. You cannot find it separately as a part, but you can use any spring that it fits. Do you have the rest of the valve, the plastic two pieces?
@@CorsaDForever Yes i’ve got them, only the spring is missing. Thank you for your help!
The worst that could happen, happened. pulled the valve out by hand just fine. When I went to reinstall, pushed the damn thing into the hole, All three prongs at the end broke off and fell into the hole. Guys! How much trouble am I in ?? Didn't start the engine out of fear. Let me know if it's safe to start???
If they are not stuck on the way, the pieces went directly into to the oil pan. Not a problem, don't worry they are quite big and will not going anywhere, won't hurt the engine. Next time when you will change the oil they might came out. You can start the engine and use the car.
Did it gave the motor any issues when it happened? Does the car stil run fine?
@@jeffsb010 No apparent issues. It still running fine. just have to be careful when installing a new filter, as the valve is no longer held in place by prongs.
woooow that oil filter cap only needs to be hand tight
True, requiers only 24 Nm, but everytime when you remove it will not come off that easy :)
Will this fix also the rattle noise of the chain in cold start?
Not sure, if the chain starts wearing you cannot stop the noise. If the noise disappear when is getting warm is still ok, not a big problem yet.
Will try it out, after coldstart it rattle for 2-3 sec then it stops and run fine . Ill order the valve , i will let u know the result
Thnx alot dude, the noise by mine corsa was mixed “chain and lifters” together screaming for oil, now i hear only the rattle of the chain,it is like less than 1 sec rattle its not really a big problem yet right? Again dude thanks for sharing your knowledge. U have from me a big like and subscription. Share more vids for the Corsa
Take care
@@dukiGe did u fix al of the noise eventually?
When I replaced my oil filter I noticed it was full of oil? Is that normal or do I have the same problem as you? Thanks
It's good if the filter is full of oil. No problem there.
What is the part number on the part?
The code is written at the end of the video.
The oil light would stay on till it built up pressure ,
Could be the same in 1.4 astra h?
Yes, definitely it could be.
Tra poco ci metto turbina 😉👍
Ti tengo d'occhio 👍
Infatti ho la stessa macchina!!L' unico limite sono le valvole che essendo idrauliche, non ho potuto mettere assi a camme massima preparazione!!!
Could it be the oil filter on the corsa c because there's no valve like that one?
No, if the oil filter is replaced with every oil change. Maybe the oil pan is dirty and the oil is not sucked properly.
Where to get the parts? I can find them but it seems only sneaky chinese sellers have them. Aren't these available from the known Aftermarket Brands? Would rather spend a few bucks more than to Trust the Chinese parts for 2.50 bucks. Just can't find These parts anywhere except from the chinese.
Hard to find a new one. Recently I replace the timing chain an tensioner and now there is no more noise. If you have around or more than 150.000 km the chain tensioner might be the problem.
I don't think I has this issue. When I replaced the oil filter there was plenty of oil inside. Also after start I wait one minute for rpm to drop and for oil to fill the engine.
The oil should fill the engine more quickly, around 5 seconds. Do you use a thicker oil?
@@CorsaDForever I only use Dexos2. In every car I drove for the first minute the rpm when it's cold are higher about 1100 and drops to around 900 after a minute.
It’s not the one way valve it the crap oil filter it sucks In witch opens the one way valve a bit letting the oil drain out so only buy I genuine Vauxhall oil filter that will sort the problem as I replaced the valve worked for one day then back to taking 4to 5 seconds to fill the filter back up
All Opel iş shit , dont buy guys
How do I know if I have the long or short filter house? Corsa 1.2 2005 VIN: W0L0XCF6856096107
2005 sould be the short one. Mine is the long version, compare what you have with the one in the video and if it differs, it means it is the short one. At the lid you immediately see the difference.
So for the short ones the valve from ford won't fit ?? Thank you.
