New Layout Build - Track changes to the branch line

  • I'm back at work on the layout itself after completing various rolling stock projects. Over the past week I've focused on making some significant changes to the branch line. I was never satisfied with the branch on that side of layout. Despite the visual issues and contrived appearance it also had a number of operational issues.
Link to my original setup in case you missed it. • New Layout Build - Bra...
I've fixed most of the problems to the best I can with the available space. Much happier with the appearance now. I've just started the process of adding scenery to the area and hope to provide an update in about another week or so. Cheers

This one was quite tricky to film due to the nature of the work and the small space to work in. It wasn’t practical to film most of the carpentry or electrics for various reasons. I hope you’ll excuse the vlog nature of this particular video. Scenery has just been started today and I hope to return to the usual format in the next video. As always thanks for watching. I hope to have the next one ready in about a week. Cheers

You've made a commitment to the frog juicers already on your layout. But if you had it to do over, would you use "keep alive" capacitor units in your units to pass over the dead frogs, or go with the juicers again. I'm wondering if keep alive fitted units would work better for less, or if the juicers are less expensive and/or work better.
BTW, the new branch reverse curves look a lot better.

Went right back to the unboxing of this futuristic piece of work:
      th-cam.com/video/ojYo_REnnM8/w-d-xo.html
And yes, people are shurely happier with this videos. Well, at least, i am. What makes Mr E. Junction (i once called him that...) such a success? I suggested here that it may be because his videos are about the modelling. Mr. R. does not want, as so many out there, to be the star of his own videos. His talent and inconspicuousness makes him the best producer of railway videos, as numbers clearly show, in views and "likes". Mr. R. is a celebrity, despite of himself. And i mean celebrity in a good way, as someone who is admired for talent and deeds, not in the tv stuff meaning.

Just an idea, but how about making your abandoned bridge a Beeching legacy feature when doing the scenery? A defunct branch line with overgrown track bed or an old entrance to a goods yard that has since been redeveloped, might open up some opportunities for some scenic dilapidation. It might show how the industrial landscape has changed. I'm thinking of the part coming into Reading from Waterloo, where there was a spur that passed under the main Paddington lines, for a bit of inspo. A pretty scruffy area back in the NSE era.

    • @EverardJunction
      @EverardJunction  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Just a suggestion Richard, The area that had the carriage shed that as gone since you re-did the branch line could be replaced with a mill and canal. The canal could enter from a tunnel which disappears under the branch at one end and into a tunnel under the fiddle yard at the other.

EverardJunction ahh ok! Fair enough mate!
Just an idea, where you were going to have the small TMD area, now that you have changed the plan could you not instead have a small freight operation there instead perhaps for ballast trains or similar, with a hopper house ect for discharging,
Would only need 2 roads probably, and would be something different, whilst still leaving you space at the front for scenery.
You get them in all sorts of unusual tight spaces just off of small branch lines ect,

Much better, how about an old factory being demolished with the remains of an old siding on it? Seen that on a layout years ago and it looked fantastic?

For points I use Tortoise and again DPDT switches and the direction of the switch shows me the throw of the point direction.

You're fooling no one, we all know that bit of wood at the end of the sidings was placed after a DMU found its demise down the loft hatch! 🤣 nice intro btw 😉

Would have been going at some speed to reach the hatch! I've have lost a wagon down there in the past, it didn't survive! Cheers, always like a silly intro :)

I'd be interested to hear your opinion of frog juicers. I swapped my PM1 point motor switches for juicers and I'm slightly disappointed, the relay isn't as fast as I'd hoped and you can hear it switch (its quiet). Could you include your opinion in one of your future productions. P.S as usual nice work

Great return...love the slow speeds you get too...due to design of the electrics?

you could use where the branch line used to go as a ex railway with the mainline still going over it
