Thanks for all the interest in EJ during 2020. I made more progress than I expected so it’s good to see scenery starting to take hold on the layout. Got plenty of projects planned and underway for the layout over the coming year and I hope to make a similar number of videos if not more. As always videos come as and when I make progress. I know it can be slow at times but it’s just a hobby. I wish you all the best for 2021, cheers
No need to apologise for the frequency of videos. It’s a happy bonus for me to see your progress. Looking forward to the next episode, whenever that may be. I always enjoy your videos.
Any thoughts about putting a camera on the front of a train and doing a cab ride view of your layout so we can see it in full operation from the cabs point if view?
I love the way you gave more life to the trees. That's why I enjoy watching your videos so to expand my knowledge of what I can do once I get a layout to build. Yours gets more interesting every time I see them. Well done Richard.
Despite your other current projects i.e. the car restoration, you have not skimped at all on the attention to detail in the layout. I always enjoy watching. Happy New Year ! Thanks again.
Hi Richard You are a very skilled person , you’re work on the car in of its self is exemplary . The car is part of my youth and aspirations , I just wish I kept all the broachers we had . Just love your approach to your layout . I must stress that I’m not a modeller in any shape or form , I just appreciate and marvel at the work that is performed by you and fellow utubers. 👍😀
In my view one of the best if not the best layouts out there. Not only built to an excellent standard but your videos are both informative and enjoyable to watch. Brilliant stuff.
First off congratulations on your first start up. I know how you feel I'm restoring a 64 Toyota FJ 40. That first start just gives you that big bost of " yes". Your deception is brilliant and you are truly a great inspiration. Thank you, Chris
A talented man! Lovely work, superb layout and car - a man after my own heart, so to speak. In that era, structures maintenance was subjected to 'maintenance holidays' and shrubs like buddleia played havoc with brickwork etc. This was only addressed, from mid 1990s onwards, slowly the situation started to change, with some investment. Tree growth was also a problem for the same reasons - the madness of maintenance holidays. I well remember being at one meeting whereby I pointed out that PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance), was more cost effective, especially on ancient, costly, assets and infrastructure, Eg bridges, tunnels etc. Luckily my recommendations in that regard we're slowly adopted.
I cannot believe that, after watching the latest EJ episode, I have just spent most of New years' day reading through the ENTIRE autoshite blog... It doesn't get much better than that! ;-)
Thanks for sharing the car progress, hopefully most people are interested given the nostalgia aspect of the hobby and this layout, so I look forward to any other info on it. Layout again looks simply amazing.
HI Richard, fabulous progress on EJ and the Granada! I restored a Stag and Minor and know both the pain and joy of trying to get something back on THE ROAD! Maybe Drive it Day in April will be great chance to get the cars out on the road with others. Best wishes
Thank you for inspiring me to get back into model railways after many many years AND producing my first TH-cam video on the early stages of my unusual layout!
As always impressive work, I was puzzled over the deception with the tunnel until your explanation about how they would have otherwise routed the line, really shows the thought that’s going into this layout. Here’s a thought for a small scene, how about some guys in hard hats trimming some overhanging branches or cutting down a dangerously leaning tree? Lovely work on the Granada, I write for several classic car mags so if you ever fancy seeing the car in print when you’re happy that it’s finished please give me a shout.
Beautiful car, my friends Dad had a 1972 Granada Coupe GXL 3.0L Automatic, it was his baby. Eventually had to get the sills redone then sold it after 40 years. Beautiful car, not as nice as my Dad's 1973 Corrina GXL 2.0 L, double head lights and mirrors on the front wings. Remember doing 120 mph in it with him, what a rush. Think it was the same red with a black "canvas top" and leather interior.
Hi Richard and a Happy New Year. Lots of progress and a glimpse of the Granny too...I used to have a 3L coupe Ghia some many years back. The hillside over the tunnel mouth looks very very nice indeed.. Any video is always a treat from you and I enjoyed this one with my afternoon tea. Thanks for posting Cheers Bob
Having binge re-watched some of your old videos, the allotment scene on the old layout was great, a similar allotment would look great near that branch line.
Happy New Year. The Granada looks brilliant - a lot of hard work, but the results speak for themselves. The cutting and tunnel illusion is perfect - you are unlikely to ever see it from an angle that gives the game away. And top tip for straightening the seafoam trees. Cheers
Best wishes Richard enjoyed those 24 minutes with a pint on New Years Day. EJ is amazing. I’ve promised myself to do a little bit of modelling each week in 2021. Thank you for spending the time and effort that allows us into the wonderful world of EJ.
Great to see the first start up. A real triumphant feeling! When I did my 200 tdi conversion in The lwb and first hit the start; after weeks of plumbing coolant and inter cooler pipes and moving battery and remaking leads. nothing! Dead starter motor! Next day with a new motor fitted, hit the start just wanting to check it would turn over and such. But it started instantly. I was expecting an hour of bleeding the fuel. Amazed The branch looks believable. Good job
Hi Richard, I just wanted to say thank you for such a great channel. I'm just starting out on my layout journey and your channel has been invaluable and inspirational. I might even do a video diary, so much has changed since I was a kid playing with a Hornby layout in the '80s, much to learn.
I do like the polybulk wagons. For a place where the line does cut under the mainline, take a look at Coulsdon south of Croydon, there the branch dives under the London-Brighton line from one side to the other before peeling off to Epsom
Great to see how you're progressing the layout, You've inspired me to return to the hobby. The 'Granny's looking great too, the coupe was very much an icon of it's time.
Thanks for sharing. One thing you might try is to soak your sea foam trees in a solution of white glue and water in a tube. Once soaked for a day I hang them upside down from string to dry with a weight hanging from the tip of the top of the tree. Since soaking them makes them soft, the weight pulls the tree straight. Once dry then I do the same as you from there. You do beautiful work. It really does trick the eye. I have two spots I could use this idea.
Loved the video as usual i love how you did the track going into the tunnel portal the tunnel portal looks great the scene is really looking good now. great to see the ford project nearing completion. Cheers and all the best. Nicholas.
Fantastic! Mk1 Granny looks a stunning restoration, I had a Mk2 2.8 on 10x16's SD1 wide arches, nos and running an xr4i gearbox back in the early nineties that I scared Cossie's with, lots of fun! That portal is looking great, love watching the build process!
@@EverardJunction Wow great. I used to have some pictures of it finished, it was sprayed gun metal grey in the end. Here is one picture I have during its tranformation lol. ibb.co/CVd9wKr
You have done a great job. I watched a video the other day, can't remember who, but they straightened the seafoam trees out with a soldering iron. Just heat the spot at the bent and gently bent it to the way you would like.
Hi Richard, fantastic illusion with the branch line, i think the concrete stays will make it even more believable. You mentioned work on the scrap yard, i hope you enlarge it quite a bit as it has always seemed a bit sparce on vehicles but what you have does look good. A positive criticism and not a moan. Looking forward to your work this year.
Hi Richard , Great update . Made my first ever sea foam tree today so was good to see how you did yours as well . looking forward to seeing what you have planned next for the scrap yard . Geoff
Granada looks the business, had a few back in the day,i had a coupe but only for 2days,a mate was desperate for it so off it went, wish i still had some of them, nice to drive and easy to work on,Railways looking great, all the best for the new year 👍
Great idea with the tunnel deception, very clever and well executed. I really enjoyed the running shots of the trains passing one another on the two levels. Cheers, John.
Hi Richard, I could go on and on about your modeling skills, however I will simply say BRILLIANT. Happy modeling in 2021 and stay safe. Regards Greg from Australia
Hi Richard, happy new year. Looking great! and the layout ain't bad either. The Granny has come on in leaps since the last time we saw it. The branch works a treat, certainly gives inspiration. Keep well buddy regards Bobby 'T'.
T 4:15 I thought that was you taking the Granada out for a test run! One more, a great video (which I will watch again, again!), hopefully to learn something. Happy New Year to you and yours.
Grest update ! Looking forward to see how the layout progresses in 2021. Just finished dismantling mine with a view to rebuilding it using a similar open frame baseboard to your layout . Happy New Year.
Yay a new video! Just wanted say I’m looking forward to what is in store for us this year with the layout! Also wonderful to see your old Ford coming along beautifully, this year I’m hoping to finally get one of my dream classic cars this year (a early Porsche 944 2.5 Lux), your interest in old cars has certainly had a inspiration for me! Happy new year Richard 👍🏻
I really love the fake tunnel mouth idea. When the first finished view came up early in the video I just thought 'Oh yes, the track goes on through there...' so even knowing it doesn't it was very convincing. I might want to see if I have an option to do something similar.

The Granada needs its own channel. i love the burnt orange, very 70's, just like my dad's Alpine from that period.
