Hi and thanks for tuning in! Our TH-cam channel was recently switched to a brand account from a personal one and some past comments were lost as a result. Please ask any questions you have and we’ll get to them as quickly as possible, thanks again for watching and please don’t forget to hit like, subscribe, and enjoy!
It would be nice if you could revisit this video and talk about the benefits of different color temperatures: yellow, 2700K, to 6000K+ And also the technical distinctions between "driving light" "fog light" "low beam" and "high beam". As I understand it, a "driving light" is kind of a high beam, and low beams aren't really used in racing. But modifying street cars for better light without blinding other drivers is an important task.
Thanks for the video! Would you mind sharing some details about your mouting bars for the HIDs and the LED ramp. I would like to build/buy something similar.
Would you mind telling which lights you have mounted on the LED bar? I have saved some money to invest in lights, so I would like to buy a whole set like you have, mounted on the LED bar. Can I find these on amazon?
Be careful with LED lights! There are a lot of cheap ones on the market and some good. Generally the good ones are expensive. We stock some good ones but I would be willing to bet these guys will have better recommendations especially for rally use, I will be eventually testing ours with a rally setup and will report how they work. The ones we carry are definitely not the most expensive out there. Like Rigid, for example, I haven't personally used their products but I have seen them installed on a few vehicles and the build quality looks great - but it damn well better be for the price (like 4x more than the ones we stock)
Also, I'm not entirely sure there are setups like shown in the video pre-made - I may be wrong, I haven't seen them but I'd wager my educated guess that the bar shown here is custom or at least custom-ish. If not - then I also ask for direction to this setup
@@forbiddenera hey do you guys have an online shop and do you stock not the light but like, the thing they put the lights into, the one that mounds onto the hood, the white one he has there with the 4 halogen lamps in it, ive got a focus and i wanna put one of those on it
Hey, I would probably first ask these guys if this is a premade or custom and if they have a source..! our online store is being rebuilt right now but we don't have such a product in stock - we could make one though, you can email me at jai at idealsound.ca if you want.
Thanks Gary! The key is to find a deserted stretch of road where you can park for awhile and get everything aimed properly, then drive around for awhile and repeat. Most street cars come with the lights aimed slightly to the right (in the US) to avoid blinding oncoming traffic, so you can adjust the stock headlights to be even and then the auxiliary lights to give you the range and width you need.
@@Teamoneilrally Tried the stopping on a remote piece of road once, the night before an event, but made the mistake of turning off the engine while aligning the lights ... Needless to say got a lot more exercise that might than I'd expected!! (Also, rather naughtily, used uprated main beams to light to the sides!)
I was asking this myself too, but there's no reason for better visibility, is it? Driver's viewpoint is far behind the source of light - illuminating something that cannot be seen doesn't make much sense.
For right hand drive You better throw left lights a bit to the left, that will help you in a blind left side situation Btw, those red Hella, I owned a pair of it and use it in front my car also
Just gave me the idea of using servos to steer the lights with my steering..might try that on my rally hatch with like 2 side lights (will be going LED)
The Bear Kajtek Yes, Each model has it's own characteristics and designed Hella does made category based on driving lights and pencil beam, this can be into the same model, for example, Hella Luminator or Rallye 4000 there are driving lights model and pencil beam models Also, Hella cheap series 500, 550, 1000 do have limitations on the efficiency of the reflector Also you need to know that they all use different lamps, Hella 220, Jumbo 320, 500, Comet 550 and 1000 uses H3 this is common bulbs you can find on the market Hella 2000, 3000 uses H2 which is very rare on the market to find replacements Hella 4000 or Luminator uses H1, rathet easily to find replacements on the market and available on 55W and 100W output, this can make a lot of difference, I use 100W on Hella 4000 or Luminator because the body design is made of metal, it easily dissipate heat also the reflector designed just perfect, I like the light throws out of Hella 4000 I do use a pair of Hella Luminator Xenon and 2 pairs of Hella Luminator For city driving lights I use a pair of led lights mounted under bumper Hella Luminator Xenon use for driving in high speed because they can throw the lights spread very very wide and fog is not a problem But for pointing lights, I use Hella Luminator (Hallogen H1 100W), A pair of driving lights and A pair of pencil beam I use 6 rocket switch mounted dash near the geat shift for fast response when needed to throw quick lights
Saga Andresson I am sorry, been a long time since I learned that series, did not choose 3000 series because plastic body And I am using Hella 500 for motorcycle for throw high beam
They're car specific, and getting hard to find because almost everyone has switched to LED. If you're in the US, try get-primitive.com/lightpods/238-light-pod-2-big2-small-lamp-.html for a subaru or www.roadraceengineering.com/lightpodinfo.htm
Why are rally headlights mounted at the same or lower height than stock headlights when trophy trucks are mounted on the roof? I figure the higher, the better so that they point down, casting shorter shadows.
The rulebook states: "All auxiliary lights shall be mounted no higher than the top of the hood." The real reason is that to be street legal in most places, any auxiliary lights used on public roads must be mounted lower than the base of the windshield (slightly different state by state). Because rallies are run on public roads, the rules are very specific about staying 100% street legal... Just like if you put a lightbar on your roof, you aren't supposed to turn it on on the open road.
It's always misleading to read that LED's draw less power. Yeah, if you're talking per LED reflector vs per halogen or HID, but when you're talking entire light units, LED setups have high power consumption. For example, the big light bars across jeeps and pickups are often 350-500watts. How many watts does that LED setup on the table use? I would guess the 2 bigger bars are around 200w or more each, plus the 2 pods on the side for over 450watts.. The halogen light pod might be 100w each times 4. The HID's can be anywhere from 35w to 100w each, but even if they're bumped up to 50w each it only burns a total of 200w? If they're stock hella HID ralleye's, they're 35w each. Everything has pro's and cons which is why most cars on the road still have halogens, just like many new cars still have drum brakes on the rear

These info videos are great, keep up the good work! Hopefully they help turn fans (like me) into drivers!
Have you turned into a race car driver as yet?am just curious by the way

I've actually been real happy using led bulbs in halogen housings. Takes a bit of experimenting to get right but great results.
Tiger Touge planing on doing this for myself
Let's see them in ACTION!

can you mix led with hid set up ?

Led wasn't designed for long throw and fast action
So, yes, you could combine both but each has it's own functions
On the video he said you can combine the two
