    Dope! Gotta get a better welder so I can do this although I'd definitely have to fix my rockers better than I was originally planning..

    Awesome video. Any chance you remember what size solid steel rod you used for the pins and what size piping you used for the pin attachments to the car? Thanks.

    I'm honestly a little surprised that you don't see this mod on ricer street cars. It looks like it would be right in their wheelhouse.

    If you are running a vehicle with an accessible frame rail- would you go through the frame with the tubing or still install on the rocker?

  • @tylergeosano4043
    @tylergeosano4043 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Does the stand 'pin' slide into the tube and the weight of the vehicle stop it from backing out? Or is it common to have some sort of locking setup so the stand cant back out once inserted? I have really wanted to weld in a set on my e30 race car for some time now.

    • @Teamoneilrally
      @Teamoneilrally  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes the pin just slides into the tube and that's all there is to it! Once they're in both sides the car is really super stable, it's basically impossible for them to slide out or the car to move. Normal jack stands seem scary after using these.

    • @tylergeosano4043
      @tylergeosano4043 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I completely agree @ regular jack stands. In theory they are pretty terrifying when doing heavy driveline work, like sliding a trans in with the stab spindle and having to shake it into place. This is exact reason why I want to dive in and do pin stands. Thanks for the response! That was the last bit of info I needed, time to make it happen.

    Great video but I have a question, did you do a zinc coating on the area you grinded or did you just leave it bare? Definitely don’t want that area rusting out a month later

      race cars have a short life expectancy in general

    • @dantheman1337
      @dantheman1337 ปีที่แล้ว

      you definitely do not want to do this to a car you want to last. Some makes of car have pin stand tubes already. For example my humble Audi A2

    • @michiel5160
      @michiel5160 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dantheman1337Not exactly the kind of car you are gonna rally. Wonder why they have it.

    I hav questionnn. When the car is on race, Do you guys leave the hole open or close the hole with some sort of rubber? If you leave it open, how do you clean it (let say, there's mud inside the tube) so you can insert your PIN stand?

    • @jacksonledford6874
      @jacksonledford6874 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since the tube goes all the way through I would assume they just leave them open and cram the dirt through with the pin

    • @goosebee
      @goosebee 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @christianborgwar666
      @christianborgwar666 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually use 16 - 14 gauge. Don't want it to much thicker than stock sheet metal.

    Should the stand be tig welded or mig is good enough?

    • @Teamoneilrally
      @Teamoneilrally  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      MIG is definitely good enough (as long as it's done well).
      Keep in mind these are very light cars, if you're running a heavy car you might add gussets or beef them up
      You can also use larger tube, and run the pin through it so it's VERY strong

    I think I'd rather mount them below the body and attach them to subframe rather than drilling into body and risking wiring ect..
