Genuinely one of the coolest, most realistic, and refreshing FF protags in a long time.
He acts like most people would in this situation, his people have been hunted, harassed, and killed by Hugo and his men for the last 5 years, why the hell would he deserve the generic JRPG treatment of trying to explain the situation with Benna and talk him down from a fight?
Instead he plays into the guys rage and says “I killed her, I liked it, and you’re next”
So much more fun than a generic good guy protagonist IMO
Been like 2 weeks since I beat the game and "Cross you? I'll KILL you!" line still stays in my head rent free
As far as non-cutscene lines go, "Cross you? I'll KILL you," "I'll tell 'your lady' you tried," and "Oriflamme. How many Bearers suffer to keep your granaries full?" are the ones that have stuck with me.
I love how well Clive matches Hugo's posturing here, because while he's a heroic character, there's nothing noble or heroic about it, it's just "I killed your girlfriend, I'm glad about it, and I'm going to kill you too."
It’s refreshing to have a hero with a no mercy attitude towards his enemies, especially considering Hugo and Benedikta were both terrible people.
Did he ever implied that? He's just acknowledge what he did but find it not an excuse for Hugo to destroy everythings.

That line and the later one where he says "You betrayed your own blood and SURRENDERED YOUR SON to his fate!" are some of the best delivered lines I've ever seen in a video game.
Shame we never kept his hands as a trophy in the trophy room. Just imagine Clive walking out, clapping with Kupka's hands together as he congratulates the team on surviving.

I love the detail of Hugo going from eloquent and imposing at the start of the fight to full Bane after he juices at the end when Clive cuts his hands off.

Kupka and his men killed most of everyone in the old Hideaway. There was no reasoning. To Clive, he actually saw this as revenge for all those Bearers that were killed years ago.

I agree. He's not a perfect hero mind, he got his tuckus beat and handed to him by Barnabus a couple of times. But here he's a downright beast against Kupka, fueled by a justifiable thirst for retribution. There was no reasoning or making excuses. Just "DIE!" and they went into it after a couple of speeches. So nice to see in a story again.
The only problem with this boss is that Kupka doesn’t comment If you are using Garuda’s powers. Which is sad for me because I made it a point to defeat him mostly using Garuda hoping he would curse me for it😂😂

I know right? People must have been playing blindfolded because Cid never Gave that kind of vibe, of being such a piece of shit character. First time i Saw that scene was obvious to me someone else did it but planted the seed of "Cid did it" in hugo's head to Start some shit because they knew how volatile he is, specially regarding Benedikta.

I laughed hysterically when the hands were cut off, and I was NOT expecting something so brutal to happen, even my reaction scared me. It was a mix of satisfaction and horror while shouting "You damn well DESERVED IT!!" ... yes, i called my therapist after.

You know its crazy how during the climatic battles, they are fighting like they're DBZ characters, but as soon as the cut scenes start, they fight like normal humans.
Yeah went from honkai impact 3rd mix with devil may cry style fight and then back to game of thrones level fight
Hugo was like: "You cannot live with your own failure and what will that bring you?.. back to me."0:16 this literally gave me that Thanos feeling.
And then Clive gives him that Reverse Flash treatment

I love Clive’s attitude in this scene, he was basically saying “I killed yo bitch and I’ll do it again if I could, but instead I’ll just settle for you”.

This chapter's title is "Capital Punishment" and historically, severing criminal hands is among the punishments for stealing. Fitting.
I'm not finished with the game yet but I'm pretty close to the end. I just find it hard to believe that Cid would send Benedikta's head to Kupka. He seemed to really care for her at one time. I think it was Odin and his Lord Commander. They knew it would make Hugo go after Clive so he would have to battle the Titan and gain his power. Also, who else thinks that Mid may be Cid and Benedikta's daughter?
That's the theory (and very likely the correct answer)
It was obviously Barnabus, Cid would never do that, and Clive at that time was knocked out by Cid, let alone wouldn´t even have known their relationship.

Yeah pretty sure it was Barnabas. Especially when you see the scene of him and Benedikta I’m bed and he clearly can tell she is still in love with Cid.

@@DioDinero To be fair, he'd also just had his a** beat pretty thoroughly and from the size of that blood pool he was sitting in for a minute there had some major blood loss going on. Good odds he was already well on his way to unconsciousness even before the gut punch.

Everything from "Kupka..." at the beginning to mocking him with the "I did" and the whole 'you mad bro?' attitude to THE raw rage of "cross you?... I'LL KILL YOU!"
Clive triggered Kupka to semiprime and be at his best so he could humiliate him and beat his ass out with Ifrit. Then delivered the perfect fuck you by taking his hands off and Titan is a pugilist.
This entire sequence was Clive completely and utterly destroying Titan physically, mentally and everything in between.
Dude, the next time we see Kupka he's struggling to pick up a knife and fork and crying like a baby. Clive fucking ruined him and it has "you hurt her, I hurt you" energy all over it. AND I LOVE IT!!!!!!

I know we got the cool Titan fight in the end, but man watching Clive stab Kupka and finish that evil POS there would have been one of the most satisfying deaths in the entire series.

There is another video of this fight and transition after the "now die" is butter smooth. Clive and Hugo rush each other and Clive precision dodges through the attack. Its beautiful
Any chance it's Lanipator's playthrough? I watched it and he procs the Berzerker ring with the first attack and it's extremely cinematic.
This is still the best fight in the game for me the beef they had with each other was crazy
I guarantee you any other protagonist would try some vain attempt to reason with Kupka, or act like they regret how things have turned out. But Clive?

Not really, he can crush regular swordsmen like it's nothing. He just didn't know Clive happened to be the baddest motherfucker alive and not just a random exiled noble.

every antagonist in this game was better than the previous , and they kept upping the stakes and the emotions and just raw sheer spectacle with awesome jaw dropping moments, there is just NO way in any game i have seen this before, ff 7 couldnt even come CLOSE to the emotions and goosebumps i felt in ff 16, and never will anything see its like for me, immediatly when you met each villain it was sephiroth over again, you instantly feared and knew these people would be great villains even if they had little screen time in between gameplay

This boss all of a sudden gave me challenge. The second part I died twice but I finally beat him. My heart was beating so fast. This fight was so intense!!! I never use that fireballs that go around lol. I don't know you can cheese him like that.

I just did this fight and it said I unlocked Titan abilities but I can't seem to select any of them is this the same for anyone else? Do I just have to keep playing?
you can only have 3 eikons in your arsenal so if you want to change them you have to switch them in the menu

The thing that confused me at him saying he did it, I was like yea you killed her but I think Kupka is thinking Clive killed her and sent the box. Which I’m certain Cid did that, which I don’t know why, cause he cared for her as well. I guess i haven’t made it that far to know the full context.

It’s very clear that cid and Clive didn’t defile benadikta body. as even if they’re outcasts, they’re still honorable.
As such it’s very clear someone is setting up Clive to face Hugo. Just so Clive could get titan powers.
Many speculate it was ultima that defile the body and mail it to Hugo. Since ultima could take on any form, since he really doesn’t care about humanity… honor or tradition.

Thank you for that clarification this was the one thing that I know I missed or wasn’t paying attention fully. Also I’m so done with FF having Garuda being evil, like when can we get nice Garuda, and Karen Shiva! Haha

I don't mean eikon mode like them transforming into the gods. But rather, Clive is doing what Kupka is doing. It felt weird seeing someone go all out while Clive was just "nah, my Eikon gauge is kinda limited"

Unpopular opinion but this fight> titan the tension in the scene right prior was fucking intense
I also was a little let down by the actual Titan fight. I think the music made it really underwhelming, which is a big scar for a game that mostly has an amazing soundtrack.
