If you really know the boss mechanics, you can use parries regularly to force openings and capitalize on them with Cold Snap, Steel Counters and Lightning Rod. Such a great mechanic.
9:21 is my favorite part this dude straight mocking Clive for being tired. He just went up that tower and fought like 6 bosses to get to you excuse you Mr. Barnabas

@@BigBoss-gb4cxit cancels out any recovery animations in addition to slowing time. He used this to stop the animation after mega flare to go directly into zenketsusen
Insane performance as always! One tip that I realized while experimenting is that the charged sword transfers over to zentetsuken if you sheathe the odin sword while holding attack. If you combine that with the fact that you can charge the sword during any attack and you can use zentetsuken seamlessly after anything basically. Like in 2:50, had you charged your sword during gigaflare, you could had used it right after rift slip without having to attack first. It’s not that easy since you would have to press triangle + R2 and then circle WHILE holding square, but it’s a nice tech. Good to know if you already didn’t.
If you want your Zantetsuken to be smoother, hold square, then circle, release square. For example at 02:11, hold square when you are using Limit Break, then circle, then release square, this is more fluid. Same at 02:46: hold square when you are using Gigaflare, then circle, then release square 😉
Barnabas was an awesome villain. Once you learn just how twisted his motivations are and what he was doing to his own people, i was shook. Dude was a true menace.
And it’s scary how once he has his “epiphany” that his faith has been rewarded by believing Clive is Ultima’s vessel he becomes so ecstatic and overzealous that his mind snaps and he starts screaming and laughing like he’s insane. I found it disturbing.
For real, the voice actor for Barnabas is phenomenal. It was borderline disturbing at points. I love how he progressively comes more and more insane as the fight rages on.@@hawk66100
Aside from the Titan in Rosaria fight, this was the other one I was most looking forward to seeing you take on, and as expected, it's a fantastic display!
Riddles is the best boss fight song in this game imo, its the most cachy and the pirate theming is a nice touch, while Ascension and the others are great there are all during Ifrit gameplay moments which do not provide as much challenge as the Clive battles making them feel like cutscene sountrack rather than gameplay sountrack.
Nice work Ongbal, really love it when Clives yells - Fight another, you are getting that combo pretty consistent. GGs I really love this Boss fight, just managed to get my No damage run in and oh boy did i almost shit my pants at the end lol i almost chocked it haha
NG+ with Final Fantasy mode hasn't been too difficult, I have to admit - but my combo chains and fluidity in combat pale in comparison to ONGBAL. Solid video.
Lightning's Rod + Rift Slip + Dancing steel gotta be best abilities combo in the game not only it build both Limit break and stagger build up it also guaranteed Zantetsuken lv5 each use Also I didn't know Circle of Malius can be stop I guess I learned something new today even when I already plat this game lmao
damn sick. people have no idea, how difficult this boss is , lol even on first play through non NG+. Waiting for you to do the omega boss for the DLC no dmg :o
Yknow i thought i had a relatively good grasp at this games combat. But after seeing this HOOOOLYY there are a lot of unsaid sort of secret techs that just arent really layed out in front of you which i really liked. I figured out my own playstyle, but to see it go this far? god damn.
I'm guessing most people had the potential of a move like Rift Slip fly over their heads, but people might've figured out it was good from seeing how Odin kept teleporting. Same with moves like Dancing Steel, people think it slows down the game, but that's meant to be how fast Odin's blade is going, and with Rift we see it also slowing down, but if you were seeing it from the outside it does look like when Odin uses it against you.
With the way this game is in terms of style old kingdoms kings and such it would have been so awesome if they had Knights of the Round as a boss fight that would have been so so epic.
Barnabas representing the Dark could make him a great candidate for a future Kingdom Hearts game as a guest character. Sora defeating Barnabas as one of the characters possessed by pure darkness.
Despite what the pacing issues with sidequests entails, and the sort of lackluster exploration elements, when this game goes off it goes off HARD GOTY!
In absolute awe watching that. Absolute epic fight and GGs on smashing this. Question though, what knocked your megaflare tally from 4 to 3 in Phase 3 14.59? Did it glitch or something, as you clearly dodged it?
At 15:48, how did he parry him so fast? Was that the Dodge parry or the attack at the same time parry? Cuz i didn't even see him do either lmfao. it happens instantly
Just finished the game on Final Fantasy mode and I thought Barnabas was a lot harder than the final boss entirely. I expected nothing less from Barnabas with the build up they give him. (Also that cackling he did when ifrit's strength failed is contagious.)

Very cool, I loved this fight. Btw if you want to try the hardest game, play Kingdom Hearts 3 on Critical Mode w/ Pro Codes for each boss. It will make every souls game feel easy in comparison.
Is there a reason why you recorded this run on graphics mode? I honestly think it’s really cool that you chose to do that but it’s very uncommon in the no damage community. I might start doing it as well especially for this game since the frame rate is pretty inconsistent on frame rate mode
First, this game's performance mode not only lowers the render resolution significantly, but also doesn't even keep 60fps. Of course performance mode is more advantageous for no damage play, but I played in graphic mode considering the visual aspect of the video.
@@_ONGBAL Thanks for the fast reply and that reasoning makes perfect sense. When I do FF mode no damage runs I feel like I'll def do them in graphics mode, it's also a lot easier for my pc to record 30FPS as well so I see no reason not to
Yea performance mode lowers the resolution during fights to 720p so it is not worth it and especially on something like a PS5. I wonder what the issue is that is causing the game to have such crappy performance because it isn't even that graphics heavy.
A thought occurs that if a next Dissidia game were a thing, and presumably wasn't as trash as the last one, it would be interesting to see what they'd make of Clive.
