Mercedes-Benz eVito Electric Van | Tom Roberts 2020 Review | Vanarama.com

  • The Mercedes-Benz eVito is the first all-electric van from the three-spoke brand available in the UK. Under the bonnet is an 85kWh electric motor (feeling like a 115hp diesel engine, if you ask Vanarama Van Expert & Reviewer Tom Roberts) which offers good power, around 300Nm of torque & zero emissions for any users looking to taking one on.
    The official range is quoted as 93 miles, with a 6-hour minimum charge time (20 hours for a full charge) thanks to its 41kWh battery capacity. Payloads are quoted as 923kg for the medium model & just a little lower in the larger model which can carry 898kg.
    There's a lot to like in the Mercedes-Benz eVito & for early adopters looking for a little style with their first electric van, this vehicle is a compelling package.

    That handbrake has been standard on Mercedes cars and Vitos for years.

    As Michale Charlton said great van but limited to 50mph which can be a pain even on a duel carageway.

      Tom here: Appreciate your support and comment, glad you enjoyed the review. The cold may have an effect on battery charge, but the batteries are designed to work in all weathers.

    Just got a 2021 evito three months ago, vans great range fairly accurate but have managed to get 110 miles on a charge if driven sensible.
    Having a 7kw home charger is a must, not a van for everyone but works great for me after selling diesel transporter £90 a week on fuel 😢

      One year on and how are things going with the VITO?
      May I ask what sort of range you’re getting, especially during winter with lights, heater, wipers etc all operating?
      Is it true that these VIto’s are limited to 50mph?
      Cheers

    The eVito is factory limited to 50MPH, if you want to go up to 70MPH you have to pay the dealer £200.00 for the privilege. The eVito features No LED headlights, No LED indicators or rear lamps. No parking sensors. The van has a heated drivers seat but I suspect that's because the conventional cab heater is absolutely rubbish; it will keep you warm in the summer but not the winter. Touch Sat Nav is not standard and neither is a DAB radio. Also the gear selector display is poorly lit and there are no controls on the steering wheel - With no AC charging option this is a very poor effort by Mercedes who launched their first e-cell electric Vito in 2012. No wonder they haven't sold many, even at the massive discount currently on offer.

      Tom here: Can't argue with any point there. It's a classic diesel-to-electric shift over. However, it's what it represents that I like, that Mercedes-Benz are getting serious about EV.

      @michaelcharlton
      Thanks for that Michael.
      I work as a Courier. My usual three rounds sees me doing around 45 miles from home-work-home. I currently drive a diesel Renault Trafic, but with fuel costs and servicing, I feel now is the time to make the switch to EV.
      The lack of LED lights doesn’t bother me, (less expense when they inevitably fail), nor does the lack of steering wheel controls. A limit of 50mph would be a pain, and the lack of rear parking sensors would make five-point turns in narrow cul-de-sacs a chore, although I suppose they could be retro-fitted.
      Sorry for the stupid question here, but I’m a ‘noob’ at EV’s. When you state “no AC charging capability for the VITO”, does that mean that the vehicle cannot be charged via a wall mounted charger at home?

    90 miles of range nice joke so in winter 60 miles . Useless van will be problem to rich tesco and come back . Well done mercedes for this size of van you can fit battery 3x bigger .

    • @vanaramauk
      @vanaramauk  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tom here: I'll admit it, the range of the eVito is less than other vans, but this is the excellent Vito (tried & tested platform) in electric form. If you have a home charging point, then the range will be a non-issue if you work locally. Short-hop delivery companies will love it too - Amazon have just ordered a load of these and Sprinters for their European fleet.

    • @vanaramauk

    Great video and great van! I adore the concept of having an electric van and getting the work done.
    However, I can only imagine how expensive this van must be because: 1) it's a Mercedes. 2) It's electric.
    I personally am not a fan of the vito because it's design in the interior meant was cramped for three people, and aesthetically it's just not as appealing as the VW Transporter or the PSA group vans (who have suspensions on par with Rolls Royce).

    • @vanaramauk
      @vanaramauk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tom here: Appreciate your support, thanks for the comment & glad you enjoyed the review. I agree with you about the quality of the Transporter and PSA Group vans, but if you lease and electric van, the up-front costs of purchasing outright are completely eliminated.

    90 miles is nothing. Being an airport-run driver, I can easily reach 300 miles a day. This van can't even get me back to the airport after a trip to Southampton.

    • @vanaramauk
      @vanaramauk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tom here: Absolutely. You're not going to be the last person to comment on that range. It's way short of most competitors - bar the ABT E-Transporter.

    Nice car bur the range 150km is not acceptable . ,winter time 100km max of range ? Plenty space for battery under the car easy will fit 100kw battery .why they produce something with is completely unusles. I hope tesla will soon have van at the moment tesla s has range of 600km.

    thanks for the video but its seams like a very disappointing van, it seams like they have done nothing new apart from adding batters and motor, why does it still have a front grill and petrol cap, why not make it more stream line, and make it more efficient,

    Very old looking van, bland shape, awful looking interior, poor range... how much did Mercedes pay you to pump this thing? I’ll wait till Tesla bring out a van for any real useable range it seems!
