    What an absolute unit. I don't regret getting it a bit. FB Mode and M/S was sealing the deal for me since you can actually compress and not sound like a classic SSL if you strife for a different sound at times... more relaxed etc. On the SSL-sound-side it excels ofc.

      I have a question. I just got my SSl Bus+ and i love it but when i switch into Mid/Side Mode i get a little impulse "pop sound" on my speakers. This also happens when i engage the D EQ bands and when i switch the Compressor post EQ. It doesnt happen when i switch through the different compression modes (THD,F/B,4K).
      Is this normal or do i have to send mine back? Cause i cant hear this in the video.

    • @ginfusedsounds
      @ginfusedsounds 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@kingjames2845 There are several reason for Pops when engaging Analog Units. Most common is you got some sort of DC Voltage in your audiopath so when you swap channels your speaker membranes get "reset" for a brief moment thus producing a click cause voltage rises/falls on a sample basis from ZERO to the DC-offset. It could be within the unit, but maybe make sure its not your inserts from bad connections/cables or the output from your converters. Sometimes it can be stuff like poorly setup Powerrails in other Hardware. I had a 500-series Rack that had 16.4V+ and 15.6V- producing DC-Offset in every soundfile..nothing too bad but still something to consider for postproduction. Another thing would be you convert to S/PDIF..some convertes abruptly Null when nearing low levels, thus producing clips..my "Swiss Sonic Miniconverter" does this working with a RME RAyDat card.

    • @kingjames2845
      @kingjames2845 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ginfusedsounds thank you for your comment! I checked the SSL not in my studio setup but at home. So I had some bad cables (3.5mm aux to stereo xlr for the input) because I just have the integrated soundcard of my pc at home. I'll have to try it in the studio with my "real" setup and check.

    awesome video. i‘m thinking about getting one piece of hardware for my master bus. i‘m doing a lot of orechestral mockups (williams, michael giacchino, alan silvestri style). but also doing all kind of music when needed. so mockups sound always a bit dead. thinking about buying the SA4000-5 MK2, ssl bus+ or ssl fusion. do you think that make sense? what hardware what you recommend on the master bus? great channel, thank you, all the best

    The original SSL 2 bus compressor was a one trick pony for the most part. It gave fast transients which make the music pop along with compressing the music. There is no other compressor that does this as well. The fast transients makes it punchy and more exciting. It is so good that thousands of studios have one, because it just makes 2 bus exciting. Personally I wished SSL came out with a 2nd compressor instead of adding all these features on this unit along with the original. It almost takes away what made the original SSL compressor so great. Not sure if this unit which is built in China has the same exact parts as the original one either.

    How hard can you push this compressor, I push my mixes really hard, all demonstations are like classic comp. style doing almost nothing. Can you with this box push your mixes to the limit so to speak or this is it, just a little push and that's it? :))

    • @alecbrits
      @alecbrits  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think that’s a taste thing more than anything, you can of course push this compressor very hard, but that depends on what you are trying to achieve. Might be best to get a demo unit and try it and see if it’s the right kind of Pushed sound you are going for.

    I don’t really rate this product way to over priced. It should at least be 50% cheaper.
    For starters this unit after about 2 months for some reason starts getting really hot. Analogue. I don’t think
    So m dac technology is digital. Also this unit is very hungry for power and in this day and age will have your electricity meter spinning at top
    Spread. Not worth the price over 2000 plenty of other units on the market. Also note that these are mass produced in China with cheaper components unlike previous made inOxford. Basically it’s Oxford via Beijing.save your money and get a neve or a Avalon sp747 if you can. A Friend informed me of parts being sourced from the same company behringer get them from. Hence maximum profit minimum outlay. Stay away from these units if you want to waste your money and also have an
    High electricity bill.
