Thank you, even if you don't put anything new, this has been great help. I would gladly join your classes, but we're too far apart - I live in Croatia. But it nice how drumming connects people...
loclique23 That's nice of you to say that. Thanks and I hope you find the exercises useful. Good practice exercises are so important in developing good technique...
I was playing this pattern for all this week. Nothing else :). All 4 variations I can easy switch in any time of playing :). Thank you! Now is time to move forward :).
I understand that completely...in my classes I teach sort of solo rudiments that people can use to improvise in between learned phrases. They free you up a bit. I'll try to put something up when I have the time.
Thanx man, really useful, clearly explained. I loved your slap/tone lesson too, one of the best on the matter I'v found so far (in over a year of playing djembe). Really hope you will make some more, maybe something about soloing for intemedate players just tapping into this area...
Thanx for propmpt reply. I'm playing for about a year, and can play about 10 traditional rhythms on djembe, and some on duns too. I'm trying to solo, but find it difficult to improvise. I'v found several phrases, but it sounds too repetitive when I play them. I know with further practice I'll be more loose, so I guess more of practices like this one would be very helpful.
Hi, and thanks for your videos. I'm following and practicing, your approach somehow suits me really fine. I know that taking those videos takes a lot of time and energy, so thank you for that - I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who appreciate it al least as much as I do. And I'm also sure its helping me a lot.
That's great Drazen. I'm ramping it up in term of the videos now and am starting to realise that I have quite a unique teaching style. So glad it's of use to you and good luck with your playing!
***** Hi Drazen. Just thought I'd let you know that my new online djembe learning website is now live at www.djembeweaver.com. Please share it as much as possible! If I get enough subscribers it will allow me to create great new content every month including professional quality videos and much more besides! Thanks for your continued support :)
Hi Drazen. I've put up a few more videos you might be interested in. I'm posting a bunch of videos on what I call 'solo rudiments'. You can use these techniques to fill in the gaps between learned phrases and to buy you thinking time. I've also just posted a vid showing how to pull apart a learned phrase and improvise around it. It should really help you out with your solo. All the best man :)
Glad you found them useful. I will try to put some more up soon. I have a video camera finally so I can make my own videos now. Where are you at with your soloing by the way? I'll try to pitch something at your level if I can.
Because I'm beginner and this was helpful for me and I hope for someone that will be useful. I hear very well your tones and slaps but I have problem which hand hits djembe. I get my pen and notebook and start writing for first part: r B . l B . r T . l B . r B . l T . r B . l B . r T . l B . r B second part l S . r S . l B . r S . l S At first I'm learning without video sequence which hand hits when and then is much easier to follow you on video. I can proudly say that I learned and playing with you on video first part when there is tones&slaps. Thank you! One month ago for me learning that exercise seemed impossible for me. Practice is most important and don't stop! That I learned already.
That's brilliant! What you did was exactly what I do: write down each stroke then learn it slowly away from the video, then get gradually faster until you can play along. Well done! Especially considering this is NOT a beginners pattern...it is quite advanced so really well done. You should be very proud of yourself. Practice it lots and when it becomes automatic you can forget about the rhythm and focus only on the quality of the sound. Keep practicing!!!!!
Haha now I have other channel, but lodzmoimmiastem it is me. I'm still practicing. I remember this exercise to this days!!! Thank you! And it is funny when I look back and see how hard that was for me ;) Now I'm back to your channel to learn stuff what was impossible learn for me 3 years ago :)
Great exercise, great groove!
in 2019 still a great video! Thanks for sharing.

THis is very helpful thank you. You are a good teacher! I'm going to share this with my drumming circle tonight!
Hurrah! Glad you found it useful Paul :) You must have quite an advanced group if you are going to do this with them (people find it quite tricky)
Great lesson and clearly demonstrated and explained.

Well done! Your tenacity reminds me of me! Great exercise isn't it?
