    So, this is just me I’m assuming, I would get something like this and not use it for 5 years then the one time I could use it I would forget I have it. Not until I’ve already spent the money on something else would i realize my mistake and sit for weeks mentally belittling myself for being so stupid.

And a stream light micro cover most things I do everyday. Anything else is covered under the tool kits I built. One is in my backpack built out of the maxpedition micro. The other out of the mexpedition fatboy that lives in my car. Both are typically a short walk away.

    I bought one when it was crowd-funded several years ago and put it on my key chain, thinking it would be handy. I find I never use it, maybe twice in 5 (?) years. My Swiss army knife is always in my pocket and is a better driver, and having keys on the ring means it can really only be used for tightening a loose screw, not for driving a new screw into hardwood.

    • @maxfathi596
      @maxfathi596 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You will never ever be driving a new screw into hardwood with any of these. You have to pre-drill hardwood for screws because if your screw is over an inch long it will likely snap in the wood.. if it ever makes it past the stage of not splitting it. Edc drivers are meant for tightening loose screws, making adjustments to things on the go, salvaging things while out and about or putting one screw in the wall to hang a picture. If you’re doing more than that, 99% of the time it saves time, is less of a headache, and produces a better outcome if you just go get the proper tool. Other than that edc tools are all personal preference. I’m the type that would also get one of those because it genuinely seems like a great idea, but would never end up using it because my leatherman does the same job and fits better in my hand. My leatherman is always with me so why clutter my keychain 🤷‍♂️

    I don't know for sure but Gato is spanish for cat. So the A sound would be pronounced short. As in ah. Yeah, I know, there is a whole new pronunciation notation scheme. Anyway, I think the name is pronounced like gahto. I could be wrong. I used to hang out with dinosaurs until they were wiped out 66 million years ago and people pronounce words differently now. So I could be wrong. But still a pedant.

      It does seem like an obvious option but when I tried it, the curved edges of the split ring drive the horizontal shaft towards the center of the circle where it intersects the back side of the bit. If you are careful and use a small diameter shaft rod, a benefit can be gained, but I found it more trouble than it’s worth.

    If you take it off the split ring will it fit into some bit drivers? I use a precision screwdriver for my EDC, but I often run into Phillip's number two screws, so I carry a precision to 1/4 inch adapter, but I don't have a great way to carry the 1/4 inch bit. I found that if a bit will fit into any run of the mill bit holder it'll fit my adapter, so I would greatly appreciate if anybody had an answer.

Just things like popping out something that has an O-ring on it, popping a lightswitch cover that has been painted over and your only real driver on your belt is a robertson, separating a plastic housing and pressing clips in, etc. One must have a lever arm for prying.

      In that case I would just throw the slotted bit side on the grinder for a moment and then it should work great as more of a light pry bar with some screw turning potential. The circular split right will give plenty of leverage at an angle as well as straight on.

      depends a lot on heat treatment or lack thereof. theres a lot that goes into it, and hardness isn't the be all end all. toughness is something thats often overlooked. s2 isn't very hard but its super tough. whereas you can have tool steels like d2 that can chip easily due to the hardness. speaking in generalities. im not a metallurgical master or anything.
