Same thoughts as I had. I LOVE this story, but the quality of visual effects (even for the time) seem rather lacklustre. This video really shows how improvements could be made for the official blu ray set (when it comes...)
Very nicely done. The changes are subtle and are very much in keeping with the original but at the same time they lift the overall look of this episode to a contemporary effects level.
I've always enjoyed this episode, novelization was great. Doctor Who/Forbidden Planet and way beyond the shows budget, but they did it anyway. The cast held this whole story together, new FX have aways been needed.
I always loved the ambient noise of the jungle in this episode. It was like 100 Geiger counters going off their scales, really added to the suspense of the episode!
They made this series when I was a teenager Planet Of Evil, in actual fact, the planet is not evil the being who lives in the depths of the earth of the planet is a complete antithesis to mining, you can eat from the fruit, set up a home and live off the land however the moment anyone starts mining for minerals an entity of pure energy opposed to industrialization is called up and all that is s left of the earth digging assailants is dust, very tribally ethical and very enjoyable.
The transportation of the TARDIS to the Morestran Spaceship was liquid gold! The Anti-Mater Monster has added punch and the rest of the effects look exciting without seeming out of place. (And if you hear certain inflections in the voice enough you suddenly come to realize that one of the Morestran crewmen is "Davros"! 😲😲😲😲😲😲)
I never got why a TARDIS can be transported. You’d think it’d have safeguards against that. It cuts a time lord off from their vehicle and couldn’t you destroy a TARDIS by purging the buffer mid-transit?
Great work! As a kid this episode frightened the pants of me in 1974. You've made the anti-matter monster and anti-man scary again. Shame you can't do anything about the ham acting!
I feel like, when it comes to Season 13 being the next Collection boxset, Planet of Evil or The Android Invasion would be the ones to get the New VFX treatment. And with this video, it proves that it would be fantastic to see new VFX for Planet of Evil.
In one scene they said a form of freeze drying acuured to the victims. I was thinking of an effect like mummification & a draining of liquids like steam. For insistence when the monster got someone, It would use a long anti-mater tentacle & desiccate the victim (drawing steam) & turn them from mater to anti-mater for a moment (Invert colors to negative). Just some thoughts on a possible effect I had. :) (BTW) Love the laser bolts. (two thumbs up) d :) d
A planet which has an natural antithesis energy to mining, that's not evil it's brilliant, Planet Of Evil, you can live of the land however any earth mining assailants are automatically turn to dust, they call it planet evil however the script speaks an opposite story, great episode, no mining the earth is the origin principal basis of indigenous central south and north American beliefs how could I not like this episode.
Oh dang, I was hoping these were for the dvd as it massively improves the story! Excellent work!!!

Poor Prentis Hancock, always the hot head that wants to shoot first in his doctor who roles.

I wish these effects where actually on the dvd release. Amazing job!

My first Doctor Who story. Love these upgrades you have come up with!
never touch that anti-matter brew
2:23: ahh yes, fine graduates of the Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy.

I love Sarah’s outfit in this.
😍
One of the reasons why this is my favourite serial. Quite possibly her best one. Or at least my favourite.
These are nice sensible enhancements, in line with the spirit of the original FX. Nothing jarring. Well done.
Always liked this episode. Great work on the effects enhancement.
Rubbish shots weren’t they, chasing Sarah and the Doctor. Yes this was the first full story I ever watched. Really good work on the added effects.

Suddenly very watchable
Man, a lot of those men died some really horrific deaths, I feel sorry for them every time I watch this episode.
Great job. And I love this episode
Sad how they killed off Tasha Yar in this episode, but nice to see the sister ship of Voyager at 1:10.
I think these soldiers were former storm troopers... shooting like they are drunk geesh! 😂😅😂
Not bad--although for the probe ship i would have made it look a little more weather-beaten--lije it had been in service for awhile.
Now I'm intrigued 😊
Ioved this episode.

I just realised that 42 is a ripoff of this episode…
Yes. I seem to vaguely recall a reference. What was it again ?
Yeah, but Chib can't write.
