In this case we had problems and removed the plate, but it depends on the make and model of escape.

I have a GSR600 too & interested to buy this exhaust..It seems that the designer(s) of Mivv didn't take into consideration this part, it's easier to clean the bike with this metal plate, else all the dirt will be collected on the plastic part under the seat..
