  • This footage is pretty much the last I have from Star Wars Canyon, Death Valley. Who knows if military aircraft will be allowed to fly through there again we will just have to wait and see. In the meantime I intend to explore other locations in the area to see what we find. First trip of the year will be in February subject to restrictions etc.
I'd like to put details aircraft, squadron and bases to the aircraft in the video but am unsure of a few of them. Rather than guess I'll put the time stamps down below and if anyone can help then put any details I need to know in the comments and Ill update as we go along.

Thanks, again, Dafydd, for another fabulous collection of videos and stills! Watching these folks fly those jets through all of the mountains, hills, and valleys tells me that they're doing so with amazing skill and discipline. It was also great to see the venerable old F-5 Tiger in there for an appearance. That's a jet that's been in inventory since 1960, both as the T-38 and the F-5!

He Once said that When they flew out in the desert, they would fly so low to the ground that in order for him to turn he had to pull up so his wing did not clip the ground. He's trained 2 or 3 of the blue angel pilots pilots. Hes been fortunate enough to be invited to fly with the Blue Angels on 3 occasions..

I still think it's worth having it for training. But with everything being so expensive, when a multi-million dollar fighter crashes, it hits a lot harder with the DoD nowadays than it used to. Funny how people build an affinity for a certain jet that stays with them. I grew up a navy brat in the 60s and 70s. Dad was an ABH carrier deck man. That's where I got acquainted with the Tomcat, then spent the last half of the 70s in Murphy Canyon watching them out of Miramar everyday. Wandered through the forbiden hills with my faithful German Sheperd day and night enjoying that awesome jet. Can't help missing them in a video like this. Great video as always! I live in central CA and explore the southwest, but have never seen these military fights when looking for them. I have, on occasion been buzzed by low flying jets!
I assume the 2019 crash caused the end of low level flight in the canyon.
    Thanks!

Thanks Steve. Yes it was that incident that stopped it. I got buzzed once driving from DV to Owen’s lake. Watching him from about 2 miles out coming at us down a straight. If only I had a dash cam!! ✈️👌

Fantastic, thank you and Happy New Year to You! Well, I think it would be a mistake to stop flying there because of an accident. Not disrespecting the pilot who died there and his family, I think if pilots stop flying there, flying will become more dangerous, because flying low in hard terrain like here, is what makes them more competent in their flying career. We only get better thanks to harder things. 👍🍀🥂

OMG! Oh, how I would LOVE to be in one of those babies!! If I could do one thing before I pass on, it would be to fly in one of these beautiful birds!! God Bless America! Perhaps I can get out there and see them someday. Peace to all.

Sadly Eric nothing military has flown through the canyon since the miss hap of 2019. The sidewinder is open as usual with jets flying over the canyon at 1500 feet

It was shut down a year or so back after a plane crashed and a pilot was killed right near the spectator viewing area. I thought it had re-opened but I'm not so sure now.

Any of the birds with NJ markings on the tail are part of the RAG/Ready Air Group (basically training squadron. If they're EA-18 Growlers they're from NAS Whidbey Island VAQ-129. Growlers look like Hornets but have two seats and receiver arrays on the wingtips. Of course this group probably already knows all this...
