    Great game, and our whole family loves it. Its not for the clumsy though. Bumping those tiles during a big game can cause some high blood pressure!

    Great review, Andy, and great expecting of his it plays. It's refreshing to see coverage given over to such an old classic - many gamers still cite this as one of the grandaddies of yore, and as you correctly point out, the mechanics are beautifully simple whilst still allowing a wide array of strategic options... Well done, lad!

    Love a bit of Carcassonne! Great review as ever Andy, and definitely agree we don’t always need to chase the latest thing. I sometimes get a bit of a headache trying to score farmers at the end when playing with non-gaming family, but otherwise it’s a cracking game and great fun with all sorts of people, even though it seems so simple. Hope we can look forward to more reviews of classics from you: a great idea!

      Hey Thomas. Thanks buddy. Its easy to get swept up in the new game that everyones raving about but when your new to gaming they're all new so its good to highlight some classics which are still relevant today. I'll certainly revisit some classics from time to time so glad you enjoyed it.

      Definitely! New games are great, but classics are classic for a reason and I think this is a great thing for you to occasionally do with Tuesday videos. Keep up the great work!

    I consider myself a wargamer and miniatures fan, but... Carcassonne is one od the best games ever.
    The great thing about Carcassonne is that it is a good game for 2 players as well as for larger group of players. Rare case with board games. Usually when a game says 2-5 players, then it is a good game in 3-4 but bad game in 2 players, or viceversa.
    With 2 players only, Carcassonne is a really strategic game, while in larger group it becomes a less controlled game (more things happen between your turns) and becomes nice party game.
    Used to play Carcassonne every single evening with my wife when she was pregnant with our first kid... Well, that is 16 years ago now. Anyway, the game still rocks today.

      I couldn't agree more! When me and my wife play it there's a definite strategic feel but when we play with more its more of a "screw you!" laugh. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    I’m fortunate enough to have started boardgame collection around 2000. I have over 350 games and Carcassonne is incredible, a true meeple game. If you want a classic, try El Grande.

    • @BlackJackLegacy
      @BlackJackLegacy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      WOW! over 350 games ... you should be reviewing them! Never played El Grande so will give it a whirl thanks.

      Thanks. I’ve considered it but so many great reviewers out there. Here’s my collection ... I might have not listed the most recent. www.boardgamegeek.com/user/Ghaerdon

    Carcassonne is amazing! I had never played until about 6 months ago, me and my fiance fell in love and have got every expansion available in the new print. Anyways, it’s DEFINITELY relevant still. The thought of me not discovering this game makes me sad.

      Thats part of why I did this video. Too many classics get ignored.

    Andy that was great mate... Carcassonne was one of my first games and I would list along with ticket to ride and splendor as perfect games to get a non boardgamer into the hobby...
    You did a great job Andy...hope to see more...😁

      Thanks man. I've never played Ticket to Ride or Splendor either! I aim to rectify this :)

      Andy they both have really good apps which give you an excellent feel for the games.

    You know what I've seen the box art but didn't know what it was. Back in 2000 I was new to the hobby and it was all about 40K and WHFB. Digging the camera angles !

    • @BlackJackLegacy
      @BlackJackLegacy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the box art just never appealed to me at all but it really is a great game. Thanks :)

    We really like Carcassonne but we just love Carcassonne: Gold Rush from the around the world series. Head to head nothing beats Gold Rush and i can’t recommend it enough to anyone who likes the regular one but wants a twist. Also the wild west theme is very appealing to me and i prefer the gold mines, teepees, and railway tracks to the themes and graphics of the original game. The gold mine tokens and ability to mine other peoples claimed mountains add a great dynamic.

      Thanks for the recommendation - must give Gold Rush a try

    It's one I haven't paid any attention to due to the look (judging it by it's cover) and age. I know, big mistake really. Will have a look, it made be my type of game. Thanks for the review Andy!

      Its a game I just looked at and though "yeah not for me" but it's a great game. Theres loads of games where the theme just doesn't grab me but I'm trying to be open minded these days and hoping to discover some gems.

    Played with all ages (that wouldn't try to eat the meeples) overthe years. With Various amounts of players. Played a two player game with 12 expansions - made our brain hurt lol. It also became my mums (in her 70s) favourite game after her brain injury, slowly adding in a couple of expansions helped a bit with her memory and coordination. Beware if you add in a lot of expansions you may need a bigger table 😆

      12 EXPANSIONS!!! My head would pop! It's great to see it helped your Mum a little too. Amazingly powerful hobby we have isn't it!

    Nice review. It’s one I own and have played a couple of times. However I don’t completely understand how the farmers score so it’s not a role I place for scoring.

    • @BlackJackLegacy
      @BlackJackLegacy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Theres a few people have said that about the farmers ... I found it ok but I'm wondering if I get it wrong now :)

      BlackJack Legacy I remember it’s something to do with open areas between castles & rivers, but sometimes it’s hard to tell (with the board layout) which fields are actually yours. At least to me, guess it’s something that comes with more playtime.

    • @BlackJackLegacy
      @BlackJackLegacy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah its something to do with how many cities your surrounded fields touches but can get confusing when there are multiple farmers especially with more than 2 players.

    such a great game, easy and relaxing to play

      It is quite relaxing ... 2 play wise. Try it with more and it becomes cut throat :)

    I like the game but my wife finds it boaring so it had been hidden to avoid it being played on games night :( . We all still enjoy playing settlers after many years of play but the add-ons do help to add more depth to settlers.

      I guess like any game you can play it to death. Catan is another game I’ve never played - one to try at some point.

    I still don't understand. Seriously, I played the computer version that executes the rules and scoring for me, and I still don't get it.

    • @BlackJackLegacy
      @BlackJackLegacy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d try and explain it but if you’ve played the game and watched the video (and I assume read the rules) maybe that’s not so easy to explain. Is there a specific part you don’t get?

    • @michaelmccarty1327
      @michaelmccarty1327 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BlackJackLegacy Well for starters, how's an OCD person supposed to win this game? If I see a piece that fits perfectly in an area, I'm going to put it there regardless of whether it helps my opponent or if it helps me. From what I've seen, optimal play requires you make the board look all ugly and stuff because it's the best way to sabotage your opponent's roads, cities and meeple.

      I was the same - there's so many games I write off by the cover. I need to be more open to suggestions.

    Easily one of my favourite games! Played several of the variants as well, but you can’t beat the original. Have the app on my iPhone as well 😏

      I've not tried any expansions or digital versions yet. Do you have a favourite expansion?

    • @Sperius7

      BlackJack Legacy My friends and I have played The Castle and The Discovery quite a bit. I also have the Star Wars variant you mentioned.

    • @BlackJackLegacy
      @BlackJackLegacy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Does the Star Wars one have essentially the same mechanics or is it different?

    • @Sperius7
      @Sperius7 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      BlackJack Legacy Some similarities. You have Trade Routes (roads), Asteroid Fields (towns) and Planets (cloisters) but no farms. You also battle other players if your realms (Trade Routes or Asteroid Fields) merge. You can also, when placing a Trade Route in one of the 8 spaces around a Planet, move your meeple to the planet instead, battling if needed. You also have one large meeple which is worth 2 dice in combat instead of one.
