My favorite parts are the music montages. Love your style/sound. It's appreciated in a sea of everyone using the same royalty free songs.
Oh wow, thank you! I really enjoy making the music!
You might not have intended this to be a beginner tutorial, but this was one of the first "tutorials" I've watched that finally helped me wrap my head around why I need to learn Fusion 360. Fantastic work, and you have a great teaching style!
Check out Product Design Online, Kevin Kennedy has a sensational course for Fusion 360 for woodworkers. Plus on for 3d printing. One more for metal fabrication (metal bending) is on the way.
Same here!👍🏼
This is one of my favorite videos on the channel. I really loved the whole process of starting with a sketch, to fusion and then watching you bring it to life. I really hope to see more fusion videos from you in the future and can't wait to see the next 2 videos this month! Also if anyone is on the fence about Bob's Fusion 360 I would highly recommend it, I took it and it greatly improved my skills inside the program.
I really need to learn more about constraints. That lid texture turned out great, but most of all your beard is looking fabulous. Merry Christmas!
Constraints are the key to successfully using any can program. The less you use numbers, the better. Make things equal length, parallel, Perpendicular, etc, that will keep your models clean and manageable.
As a software engineer and woodworking hobbyist, your review of Fusion 360's use of variables was really helpful for me to wrap my head around how it works and what's possible. Thanks so much for the walkthrough with the real world example. :)
You’re probably the most influential person in motivating me to pick up wood working. It’s honestly something I’ve wanted to do forever, and this channel has inspired me to stop dreaming and just start making. I appreciate your channel, and videos like this. Keep being great and don’t ever stop making somethings.
How's the woodworking going?
The design on the lid turned out beautifully! I really like it on that walnut
Great Job. I'm sure all who receive this gift will love it. Merry Christmas.
Even more excited for Christmas now, great present for the rest of us.
Beautiful David, happy holidays to you too! I can’t wait to see the video with your Grandfather!
This was simply one of the best videos on fusion 360 variable dimensions I’ve seen yet. Awesome job
Hello again from France David, I love your channel ! You give energy, knowledge and passion ! Thanks !
Showing the details behind designing your ideas on the computer is a nice extra spice for this project. Enjoyed it thoroughly
This is a great fusion walkthrough. I use fusion everyday and the way you extrude the top and turned it to an angle is genius. So many ways to do something.
Me and two buddies use fusion a lot and we all know things the others don’t. Lol
Again great job.
David, Billy Gibbons is the coolest cat on the planet but you my friend are a close second. Your passion for what you do inspires me every time I tune in. Have a great holiday with all those family members!!!
Aha! That was a great dive into Fusion 360 and how it relates to CNC and woodworking. Thank you, it makes perfect sense.
Cool project, Dave. Great point about knowing when to stop on a piece. Perfectionism can lead to excellence but it can also lead to obsessiveness.
Love these style of videos, would like to see more. It's cool seeing the whole process
I really love this walkthrough and explanation on design. Excellent work good sir!
Such a great tutorial, David! You have an amazing way to explain everything and I LOVE the candy boxes!
Fabulous. Got to learn fusion. Also looking forward to seeing your grandpa again. I love his mission. Peace!
I had plans to learn F360 last year but things got it the way.
Thanks for the great prompt for me to get my finger out this year.
Love from London.
I simply can NOT wait for your update on your Grandfather. The last one was one of my favorite videos you’ve done. Happy Yule
All merries and happies to you & yours, Dave
Really liked seeing the entire process from initial design to finished product! Keep up the great work!
You really got me with the Low Battery warning. I jumped to get the charger and found it was already plugged in.... Great tutorial and great boxes. Nothing in the tutorial I didn't already know, but still full of little nuggets of knowledge in there!
Happy holidays! Love the plug for Bob. Love the channel and all you do!
Great job David! I really enjoyed this video and can't wait to see the one on your grandfather! Keep up the great work! You were a big part of me starting my own channel.
"Don't let this overwhelm you." Actually you did a great job of making it look easy and approachable. Great job again.
Loved that you showed all the steps. I noticed you did lots of accent lights and colorful items in the background too. Really adds nice touch to the video. Glad I watched.
Thank you for this video. I know I can’t get to the next level with my pencil and graph paper technique. I really look forward to the vid with your grandfather!
Got dang I love the rich colors in your videos.
Loved this video! Thanks for sharing it!
Loved the video being a CAD student back in highschool anytime I can see a digital piece become reality I will take it.
Happy Holidays! Have enjoyed your videos, projects, and enthusiasm all year!!!
Happy holidays! Thank you June!!
Two quick things I appreciate:
First, I love that you're putting the music info in the videos. I've appreciated that you make all your own bg music, and I'm glad that you're showing off that fact.
Second, that was possibly THE most intelligible "maker shows you their digital design process" I've ever watched. Jimmy's are usually pretty good, but... Jimmy and technology, right?
Also, you're giving your family cnc junk? woooow!
Thanks for the look into Fusion 360! It’s on my list of things to learn as I’m moving from SketchUp, and getting to see some of the features in depth that are prompting me to switch was great! And always, love the music!
I like the lights on the back of the chair trick, very cool effect with your walls, that I'm sure you're aware of. Happy Holidays!
Starting to understand the love for fusion. Also, tasty jams!
Not getting a CNC anytime soon since it doesn't fit into the kind of "making" that I do but I loved the project and process. One question though. Can Fusion 360 create a cut list where instead of using CNC and router bits a guy could cut all the parts accept for the geometric top and glue those parts together more conventionally and come up with a candy dish?
Awesome results. I'm sure they will all love it (I know I would!) and thanks for the intro to Fusion. Can't wait to see the update video on your Grandfather! Merry Christmas David!
Very cool video. Great overview on Fusion without spending hours! Learned a lot of good tips! Thank you
They look awesome! When budget and space will allow it I'll have to get me one of those CNC's!
Really appreciate the walk through!
Still look great! Merry Christmas!
Great Video, Love seeing Fusion 360 tips.
Great video Dave as always!!
Great video. Could you go a follow up video of translating the file from Fusion 360 into gcode? what do you use? Tool paths, etc.
Great video, David!
I hope your family didn’t just watch this video and have their gift spoiled lol Great video as always!
Beautiful design. I use Solidworks at my day job so I get the parametric aspect. Fusion looks interesting.
I have enough experience with Fusion that that was easy enough to follow along with - now it would be useful to know the CAM process in Fusion.
Thank you for such a great quick tutorial on fusion 360 this helped me a lot!!
Great video, learned so much from this.
Very cool definitely need to put time in to learn fusion
I have been looking for a fusion tutorial like this thank you. I have been through a number of beginner tutorials which are super helpful for learning the different tools, however, I end up loosing the overall workflow in all those details (I miss the forest for the trees). It was really nice to get an idea of workflow without getting bogged down in explanation. Thank you, it was really helpful and I would love to see more.
Happy holidays Merry Christmas an a happy new year. David very nice video. Very helpful an very useful video David. Hopefully everyone enjoys your gift this season. Hopefully they get great use out of it for many years. Can't wait to see more videos soon. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep making. God bless.
I've been waiting for you to do it for a long time😘😘😘
Love the top! I'm working on a project with a similar texture and I'm trying to figure out how best to machine it - can you walk through what bits and toolpaths you used? It looks like maybe a ball end with a parallel pass going both ways?
This was the first time I ever used Fusion for tool paths. I still have a ton to learn which is why I didn't go over it. I was afraid to giving wrong information or bad advice. The 3 end mills I used are linked in the description. Basically a 3D roughing pass with a 1/4" straight end bit. The bottom of the pockets were finished with a bull nose bit. The lid was done with a 3D roughing pass with a 1/4" straight bit and then used a tapered bit and a two parallel/perpendicular passes.
Great video on Fusion 360. CAD changes your maker brain. Mahalo for sharing! : )
Beautiful work man! I really love all of your videos, but the ones where you explain your process/thinking (whether on the computer or just free form) are my favorite.
Also, can we buy grandpa’s crosses? I’d love to hang one in my shed shop next to my grandpas’, dad’s, and uncle’s pieces.
Great, informative video! I was happy to learn that everyone in your family was getting this candy dish and, of course assumed you meant your TH-cam family. I’ll be watching for the mailman!
Merry Christmas, David and looking forward to the “Return of Grandpa” video!
I like the Fusion360 demo + cnc. (I use Fusion for 3dprinting... but have aspirations to buy a cnc router.) It is cool that you are using your own music in the video.
I am really liking all of the color in the shop with the different camera angles. The different shirts made me laugh.
Have a good holiday season.
I am working my way up to a 3D printer and CNC. Still sharpening my hand tool skills for now.
great to see the process from start to finish. play hat looks slick, but just curious- any plans to sell the "make" artwork on a hat?
Thanks! I can make that happen this week!
@@MakeSomething 😺!
Very cool project, maybe I do need to save up for a cnc??? Merry Christmas to you and your family! Looking forward to the grandpa video...I sure miss mine.
Made with Love by you and a robot hehehehe Beautiful work!!
Outstanding!
This was great on so many levels. *sigh* I was cutting edge in Sketchup back in 2006, and will take that to my grave...
Definitely loved the music info! Looking forward to that album in 2022! Please?
Merry Christmas to you, your wife, your camera man, and the hot dogs 😉!
I literally just started learning Fusion 360 yesterday. Awesome program so far. Loved this video. Nice to see where I can go with this program down the line. Merry Christmas 🎄
I enjoyed this, thak you!
Tip: make your fillets slightly larger than your bit diameter - that reduces sudden changes in bit loading which can cause chatter (or worst case, can snap your bit off!)
Did you set your toolpaths in Fusion360? Or did you use another application to set those?
Mary Xmas man!
these boxes are outstanding. especially those 3D lids.
OK I am clearly doing something wrong. I used the 3D adaptive clearing for the roughing pass, and that looks right. says it will take an hour. But the finishing pass I used paralell 3d and it says it's going to take 5 hours. What are you using to do the finishing pass?
Hey Dave, Apple earpods are not hearing protection!
This was a very timely video I just started playing with fusion 360 last week. Thank you!
Beautiful, Dave! Really amazing work! 😃
Thanks a bunch for all the tips about designing!!!
Happy holidays! And stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
One other thing.... what you are talking about in fusion of being able change a parameter and it will re-draw the object. Overall that technique is called parametric modeling. For anyone starting out in CAD modeling, learn parametric modeling from day one and everything down the road will be far easier.
Neat approach to the F360 design. Patterns and parameters are handy. haha Also, good pace.
Great vid! - Great tutorial! Thanks !! Would you have considered making the 'pyramids' on the lid's top way more random, like your blue background? Not so much to match the shows decor, but because I LOVE the idea of triangles on both sides that completely don't match (chaos on the outside since you've created order on the inside) because it creates visual and experiential dissonance. What do you think?
Wow! Learned some great things about Fusion here! Thanks 😊👍🏼
Also: merry christmas! 🎄
Great project, Dave! But I think the video with your Grandfather will be better.
During my career, I used Autodesk in
Inventor (from when it was first introduced) to create mechanical designs. Using parameters saved me from doing a lot of rework when the requirements changed or when I screwed up. In retirement, I have been slow to embrace Fusion, even though it is very similar to Inventor. I don't enjoy computer time like I used to.
Cool little candy dish project. I'm just learning fusion and it's an amazing program. Gonna be a while until I get as good as this but it was pretty cool and helpful to see what can be done. Thanks for this and Merry Christmas!
Dude, I've been using construction lines way to much to position things. The dimension constraint to specify distance between parallel lines is what I was missing.
Great video using new woodworking technologies, so cool. Nice level of humility regarding your sanding standards or "sandards" ?! LOL
Funny. Candy dish was for your family and friends, but I haven't got one. 😁
Still made with love.....and a CNC.
I regularly remind myself “Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good enough.” Great project. Hope your family doesn’t watch your videos…. Lost the surprise there.
I think my head just exploded, I'm going back to my pencils and graph paper! LOL
Yes, that was very overwhelming
Nice!!!! 👍😎
Looks nice, however, wood prices being what they are, I would have a hard time hogging away that much material. But that's just me, to each their own.
Plywood and building materials went up but not hardwoods. At least not in my area.
Ótimo trabalho
Sketch Up used to be the go to program for so many youtube makers, why has it gone out of favor?
Sketchup used to belong to Google and then they sold it. Fusion 360 can do parametric design (change parameters without redesigning the whole project) and Sketchup can't. Also Fusion can output to 3D printers and CNCs.
Have to say, that is super easy to do 😐🤔
I have sanded myself into a corner and know how that feels. Next time ask me for help! Can't wait to see your grandpa!!
Thanks Dan! You are now in charge of sanding!
@@MakeSomething doh
I used to like you but then you made me do MATH. I have A.D.D. and math is... what kind of wood is that? What kind of candy will go in there? Who is supplying the candy?
What is this voodoo magic? This is amazing. Maybe not for a beginner like me, but awesome nonetheless!
I MUST learn Fusion 360? I’m fine with pencil & paper. LOL
