  • I just want to wish everyone watching a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! In this quick video, I explain how I got locked in this customers 2003 jeep grand cherokee. I show you what the customers been having to do every time she needs to get out of her vehicle. Unfortunately the customer does not have the money to fix her door, so I decided to see if I could possibly fix it for free. Follow along as we tear this door panel apart and see if we can fix this thing without replacing any parts.
    Thank you for watching!

    This was so nice of you to fix that for her. I was a single parent (I guess I still am, but my daughter is grown now) and I raised my one and only kid by myself. Times got tough here and there. I can totally relate to this gal's situation. I always had mechanical specials for a vehicle and had to know the "tricks" on how to open doors, start the car, open windows, etc. LOL ... I was grateful to have a vehicle so life wasn't as bad as it could have been that is for sure and I'm thankful for what I did have. I had several people help me a little on the way, but nothing like that! You surely took time out of your day just to see what was going on there inside the door panel and you did that out of the kindness of your heart and it's because of people like you that this planet is a better place to live. Thanks for you in the Universe!!! I appreciate your heart and I subbed and liked today because of this video.

    Karma has a way of coming around. That half hr you spend helping someone else will come back 10 fold. When I was still wrenching, I did things like that all the time. Now my life is pretty good. I don't know how many times I've heard remember when you fixed this or that. Most of the time I don't remember it, but it's awesome that it meant that much to them that they remember years later.

    If I got that right she was climbing over the center console pregnant and she smart enough not to put off oil changes, she is bad ass. Our local mechanic fixes stipped drain plugs and snapped off lugs(when it is simple) caused by the local wally world for like 10 bucks. One time and he has a customer for life. She will appreciate you every time she opens the door. Thanks for the video.

    I had to replace a broken plastic retainer clip on a door handle rod. Although they are cheap, it wasn't easy because they aren't all the same size, and they are made to be left or right handed. Eventually I got a mixed generic set, and from that I was able to find one that worked. Good for you to improvise with what you had! It warms the heart to see you help somebody out, Bravo!

    Fun fact: Back in the day, the 1990 4 dr accords had a flaw in the driver's door latch. The internal trigger was made of a pot metal casting. It would crumble, and the door would not open from inside or outside! I would remove the driver's seat from the left rear door opening so I could have some room to work. Then I would remove the driver's door inner panel, and window. Then with a spherical ball on a die grinder, I would remove the ends of the three screws that retained the latch inner plate. Then with a twisting motion with a pry bar, bend back the destroyed latch inner plate. At this point the door would not open, but it afforded an avenue to reach in with a pick and move the latch trigger. The door would open after about 29 minutes of battle. After that I got virtually all of these jobs as 29 minutes was the fastest of any in the shop!

    I sold my 2003 two years ago and I still regret it. You didn’t say anything about the window not working, so I’m curious. I had similar issues with my 2003 and my wife’s 2004; did a little research and it seems to be a very common issue. The wiring that goes through the door can snap; in particular, the (most likely) black and/or orange wires. Right there in the bend between the door and body. I was able to do quick fixes, though it should probably be replaced - at least the part in between. I had a lot of trouble getting that rubber cover back on though, in fact I never could get it back on, maybe you have some tips on that? Oh, and bless you for helping this woman with a quick fix without an extra charge. I’ve been in those situations too, and I’m guessing it meant a LOT to her!
    I recently got a 2011 Grand with only 84k miles on it, and I look forward to years of enjoyable driving with it,hopefully with as few problems as possible.

      In the shops I've worked in, we called that "getting married" to the vehicle. Like anything else, it's the rotten piece of fruit that spoils the bunch. In thinking about it, I've also had quite a few people who were extremely appreciative of extra stuff I did for them, no charge. I guess these days I just feel the situation out, and act accordingly...the random act of kindness might just make a difference to someone having a bad day.

    This is if course, Carma. Fixing someone's ride for free and not expecting anything in return. BTW, is the spare connector dangling about the rear of the door for the missing central locking mechanism? Someone has been in there at sometime as the moisture barrier has been removed and not replaced. Keep up the good work.

  • @joequixotic3039
    @joequixotic3039 ปีที่แล้ว

    Unless you used some video magic, the rod was up on top of the window opening, not in the latch. Somebody tried to fix it and forgot to put it back.
    I've got a problem where I can't unlock my door with the key. The interior lights turn on so it seems to know the door lock cylinder was unlocked but the handle won't open the door.
    I lost my key fob a few days ago so I had to start using the key, now I can't get in because the driver's side is the only lock cylinder on the exterior.
    I've had a noisy door lock actuator for several months. I have the parts but I was waiting for it to die before I replaced it. I'm regretting that now.
    I'm going to have to do a locksmith style entry now and figure out why the exterior door handle won't unlock or won't unlatch the door.
    Of course it's raining and I'm going to miss two appointments now...
