    Hi everyone! Thanks for watching my review of the Canon G7 X Mark II. I hope that I covered the major point that will help you decide if it's the right camera for you. Let me know what you think about it. Does it have the features you're looking for? If not, let me know what you wish it had. Thank you in advance for your time!

      Hello Tech Gear Talk, would you still recommend this Canon camera for beginners? I'm concerned about battery life since I heard you mentioned it. I'm looking at this and or Panasonic Lumix. Thank you.

    A solid review, covers the camera well. Sets out some opportunities and challenges. It’s a great all round point and shoot. Only real issue is its a one stop shop - you cant really expand and extend its functionality due to not being able to swap out lenses or adding a separate mic. ( the later can be overcome by recording separately and synching in post editing ). Love to see a peer product review to show the options at the price point. Keep up the great work

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you again for all the feedback. I agree with your points. It's a matter of how much you plan on pushing the creative process. It's also nice to sometimes step back from all the "options" and push yourself to create content with a more "limited" platform.
      It's a fun creative process and is challenging exercise.

      @@TechGearTalk I observed most of the people doing reviews lacks of basics which you enlighten awesomely.
      Can you guide me if I can start with Canon G7x Mark ii for vlogging travel trips. For noise cancelation I'm thinking to use wind muff I hope it will capture my voice from arm distance.
      Secondly, do you've any official information of canon is planning to release G7x mark iii?

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can 100% start with the g7xmkii, especially if you get the wind muff.

      @@TechGearTalk can you also guide what things to check if I'm buying used Canon G7x Mark II? What features/components should be checked before buying? Is there any feature to check shutter counts or no. If times /hours camera used?
      Thanking in anticipations
      📸😇

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That I am not sure of. Technically, shutter count is something people look at. I don't usually buy used cameras so I don't have a ton of experience 🙃
      I would probably just make sure it looks like it's in good condition.

    Excellent and thorough review especially that I was able to learn some aspects of the camera no other reviewer I've come across has delved into.
    This is especially beneficial to me since I have mobility issues and a compact zoom is crucial to me and others I know who have challenges and I'm just putting my situation out there because I have seen quite a few photographers in wheelchairs, on crutches, and support canes shopping at B&H and I know if I often feel as if I'm part of a marginalized part of the photography world they must feel the same.
    Thanks.

    It was a great review. Even if I have this camera for only a week I took many photos and I love it. I use DSLRs (Nikon D5100 and D7100) for 7 years now. This is my second Canon Powershot camera after 4-year use of Canon G7. I strongly recommend this camera. It has many good features like F/1.8 for night shots and background blur, Articulating screen for shooting in different angles (poor boy does not support in portrait mode), Two rings + EV Comp for full manual usage ability, Wifi connection for sharing instantly, 5cm Macro mode. Actually, I really think to replace this camera as my main camera.

    I appreciate you speaking some on the camera also vs all the video footage because I am going to use this mostly for my photography needs. Most of the videos I've seen speak mostly about video and you spoke some on the camera so I appreciate that but would love to see more about the camera in general (settings etc) ❤.. No one has given much detail on the camera in general because I think people assume it will be mostly for vlogging. Not everyone is vloggers. Lol. I needed a small camera because of a rotator cuff injury and can't lug around my BIG guy. I do video sometimes also so of course that's an added bonus. I know you need distance for bokeh with this camera that's the only disappointment for me but I can work with it. I'm also left handed but have been using my right a lot since the injury. I"ve read lots of reviews and videos and I think this will work for me. I paid $599 but I think you can get it even cheaper some places. Thanks for the review! :)

    This was such an awesome, in depth review. Thank you so much for all the detail and time you put into this--I create overhead video tutorials, and have been researching this camera for that purpose--I usually do voiceovers separately and add those in during editing. Can you turn the mic off completely while recording (so you don't have to delete it out later)? Thank you again! New subscriber!

      @TechGearTalk  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Julie, you made my night! I'm so glad the video was helpful.
      I don't know if the audio can be turned "off" (maybe it can, I haven't tried because it's so easy to remove in post). However, you can probably just turn the gain all the way down to zero so that it doesn't record audio.
      If it were me, I would still remove that track because I don't need a blank track.
      Does that help?
      Thanks for the sub!

Could you please tell more about how this camera performs when taking stills especially in comparison with the Canon M50. @@TechGearTalk No i was asking about Mark 2. Canon M50 with kit lens Vs Canon G7x Mark 2 for still photography. You are using much larger lenses with M50 which explains why you like the images from M50 better. Anyways, i will still go for G7x mark 2 because of its small pocket size. Easy to take anywhere you want. It all depends on the way you wanna use a camera. Thanks for your review.

    • @TechGearTalk

      Absolutely. You can’t beat the fast that the g7xmkii can just stay in your pocket

    • @okaro6595
      @okaro6595 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Who said that M50 is not good for photography? People say plenty of nonsense. If you stay in the kit lens there is no significant difference unless you beep at the corners. They are a weak point on compact cameras. M50 has a larger sensor but this has a faster lens. On the other hand the M50 has much better expandability. You can get ultra-wides, tele lenses, fast primes etc.
      Even if you would later but an ILC the G7 X is a good secondary camera.

    Hii, super late but would this still be a good camera to use now currently? 2020 and further? I’m not looking for anything super fancy. I don’t have much money so I plan on getting it on sale someday. I want to use it for everyday photos and videos really.
    so what I mainly want is a basic but good camera/photo quality, low-light and audio. but I really don’t think I’ll ever feel the need to use an external mic. I like keeping it simple and just using the built in one. Sooo would this one be good?
    The only major problem I’ve been seeing with the g7x mark 2 is with the buzzing almost staticky noise when it’s on video recording. It’s a little hard to ignore sometimes. Did you notice that too?
    I’m still not quite sure if I should get this exact camera yet?? there’s so many options and I wanna buy a camera for that’ll be good a few years down the road 😁😊

    I would like to thank you for showing us the functions of this camera. I make transport videos and currently I use a Sony WX200 digital camera for onboard rides of trains and buses etc as it is very compact and I have used this one since 2014. However I am looking to upgrade to newer technology that will allow me to make even better videos as I plan to do some plane rides as well as my usual train and bus rides.
    Do you think that the 60fps offered on the Canon G7 X would make the quality of the video better? As my current Sony WX200 is limited to just 25fps and is limited to only 720p which I have to upscale in my video editor to make it 1080p. Not sure if you have used the Sony WX200 yourself in the past, but I am willing to pay the price for the Canon G7 X if that means that my videos will be better quality in return for my investment.
    All the best.

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for watching. Not having to upscale the video is an automatic bonus for sure. No questions asked (unless you're upgrading to a completely terrible sensor just for the resolution (which obviously you're not).
      Going from 25 -> 60 might be really nice for you, especially because you are shooting very fast moving objects.
      Do you record audio separately?

    • @BritishRail60062
      @BritishRail60062 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi again. I use the built in mics (this WX200 has two on the top) for the sound. But when I use my Canon Legria Mini X (its known as the Legria range here in Northern Ireland) for filming trains lineside. I now use the Rode VideoMic Pro for my audio which makes the quality a lot better sound wise.
      But in the summer. I am planning to get this G7 X for the internal videos like my bus, plane and train rides and I am looking at getting the Canon Legria HF G40 that will replace my Canon Legria Mini X for external outdoor filming when the weather is good.

      @TechGearTalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, then yes, that's something that's going to happen in a silent room with a built-in microphone.
      For better audio, you're going to want a camera that has a mic input so that you can:
      1. Use a shotgun microphone which is pointed at the subject
      2. Be able to move the microphone off camera if it's still too close.
      If it's not so bad on the G7XMKII, you can add some background music to hide it. Otherwise there isn't much you can do other than locking focus.

    • @bobcooltx
      @bobcooltx 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TechGearTalk I know this is a very old comment, but you could also buy a cheap lav microphone, plug it into your smartphone and record the audio. Then you could sync the audio in iMovie or a PC-related app and you'll get much better audio without any mechanical noises. Obviously, this means there's more "post-production work" for you, but it solves the problem.

I had a Canon point-and-shoot several years back, so I guess I'm a little more familiar with that brand. Right now the Sony RX-100 Mk III is going for $650 on Amazon, so they seem to both hit similar price points.
      If there's another camera you'd recommend, I'd be interested in that, too. Thanks! Your video was super helpful in reviewing the Canon.

      @@TechGearTalk Oh, looks like the Canon also has a built in Flash. They seem pretty similar to me. Canon has 4.2x optical zoom, and the tap to focus touch screen. Sony may get better battery life, and a better autofocus? But it is the older of the two cameras.

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bob. Both are going to be great so it's a matter of preference.
      If at all possible, I recommend that you go to a store and use both cameras. I find the Canon user interface to be more intuitive and user friendly. That is a specific part of my approach to buying a camera that I think most people overlook.
      I've gotten used to the Sony UI over the years but there is something that just seems to cause friction for me.
      It won't be the image quality of the performance, but again, more of a user experience.
      Is that something you're able to do?

    sensor size of Canon M50 & SL2 are bigger than the sensor size of G7x II. However, the maximum aperture in G7x II is f 1.8 bigger than what we get with the kit lens of M50 & SL2 f3.5 or 4.5. So my question is which will give me more blurry background / bokeh effect ?? the one with bigger sensor size M50 and SL2 with kit lens or the one with bigger aperture G7x II ??

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, if your aperture is larger by the same difference as the difference in sensor size and your shooting at the same focal length from the same distance, they will be the same.
      If that is your goal though, I would get one of the other two because you can get even an inexpensive lens like the 50 1.8

    Gr8 camera for a point and shoot and crisp clean video in natural and low light... Mine has just gone into Canon repair after 8 months due to dust under the lense which is a build fault for this camera... I am very careful with this camera so makes me wonder how durable it is... Alot of tech under bonnet but making dust easily accessed into camera lense with no way of cleaning it is a big fault for this

      Hi John. Thanks for the real-world insight. What do you normally use it for?

      Tech Gear Talk..... Mainly a hobbyist.. Been using it mainly family events and personal videos.... Havnt gained the courage to post TH-cam content which this cam is mainly directed like your in sighted vid has highlighted... I think its sole purpose is for me is to get used to all its manual settings before upgrading... Street photography pics and portraits for pics... A good all round cam in a small package... Just a shame about the fault with dust / lint getting behind lense...dont fancy drilling holes as per some of the you tubers vid 😁... Still under warranty

      Tech Gear Talk ime thinking of making the big leap from baby to seroius panasonic g9... Excellent still camera but also with good vid... This won't be straight away 😁 but for my needs and room to improve and possible explore my options regarding if I want to get seroius then this camera has to be one of my options...

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, that is quite a jump. The G9 is excellent. 4K/60.... yes please. That will be as good a camera as most people would ever need. After that body, you just focus on lenses and you'd be good for years.
      I don't know why Canon is not putting out high end mirrorless cameras yet.

  • @andybc007

    Quick question: How do you guys feel about how long this camera has been out? I want to buy one (mostly for stills), but worried that as soon as I do, and upgraded model will be released (mk iii) for around the same price... and then I’ll cry, and I don’t like to cry..

    • @saccaemail7887
      @saccaemail7887 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andy Cox, you are right! That is way I never buy a camera with mark II because you would never know that there will be up to how many marks! Take example for the RX100, how many marks are there now? Is it 5? 6?? 7???

    • @TechGearTalk
      @TechGearTalk  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That doesn’t bother me at all. There will always be the “next” camera which will be better than what I bought (same with phone, computer, etc)
      If I’m happy with what the product does, for the price (value) I would get it.
      Now, if you are waiting for a particular feature at this price point, that’s something else.
      What do you think?

    • @saccaemail7887
      @saccaemail7887 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tech Gear Talk, of course YOU WOULD NOT fucking BOTHER AT ALL! because your are Canon's agent, you are paid by Canon, all your words are sided and benefited to Canon! YOU ARE SOLD TO CANON! Your review is not fair! That is how you make a living!

      I don't have one of those yet, so I'm not sure. Reviewing the G7 X Mark III and the G5 X Mark II right now.

    • @okaro6595
      @okaro6595 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are very similar, main differences are the lens:
      G9 X 28-84 mm equivalence at f/2.0-4.9
      G7 X 24-100 mm equivalence at f/1.8-2.8
      So the G7 X has the 24 mm equivalence. Also it is longer and much faster in the Tele-end. At 50 mm equivalence G9 X is f/4.0 and G7 X f/2.5. (1.33 f-stop difference)
      G7 X has a tilting screen, G9 X has a fixed screen. G9 X is smaller and lighter, about 200 g vs. 300 g. There sure are other smaller differences.
      Also G9 X does not have mark III.
      G9 X does have some portrait more and also some soft focus mode. I never use those so I cannot tell more.

      This is one of my favorite vlogging cameras. It’s affordable, it’s VERY small so you can pretty much take it with you anywhere and it take good pictures for a point and click with a 1” sensor. You can’t use an external mic which is probably the greatest drawback but that doesn’t matter for many people. I’ll do an update video on the settings.
