Maria's is the best, it's such a shame she retired and closed back in 2019. We visit Boston from the UK and she her, she's a lovely lady and her Mum is great. We're going to visit Boston this July and we will miss her.
My dad is from Margaret Street. We were Bova’s for bread (Scali(a), Spuckies and thumb knot rolls and Modern for treats. They have the best Florentine cookies I’ve ever had and their Ricotta pie is the standard to which all others are measured.
Hey, man. Just moved to Boston in August. Loved your video and are going on to check out your others! Keep it up. You do great, and they're fun and informative!
Fyi to anyone that has not tried pastery in the north end. No preservitives in the pastery. Get there early. If you show up later in the day eat it. Places like parziales have been there since 1907.
A couple of months later Maria announces that she's closing her shop permanently to retire. I'm new to Boston and was so looking forward to going to her shop then I find out that its no longer opened. I believe she closed her shop in September 2019 (4 months after you uploaded this video). I guess I'm stuck with the tourist pastry shops. Shame. If possible, please remake the video and update.
Yup the North End ! Of course Charlestown is more north, Dorchester more south of South Boston, Brighton more west than the West End and where Roxbury and West Roxbury aren’t adjacent to each other ? 😳
Here's a genuine ranking and guide for Italian Americans: Best Cannoli: Bova's Bakery Best Bread: Bricco (Panetteria) Best Pastries: Modern (my favorite is the sfogliatelle) Best Coffee/Espresso Martini: Cafe Vittoria Best Pizza: Galleria Umberto Runner-Up Pizza: Parziale's Maria's Pastry has closed... she had good stuff, but there are still so many good bakeries. Mike's Pastry is not one of them.
Thank you! Someone had to say it. Whenever I go back and visit the north end I try not to die of laughter when I see the lines at mikes pastry. And I’m glad you mentioned Parziale. That’s the best hidden gem.
I hate chocolate chips on those. They're like a scourge. It's supposed to be subtle - the filling. But the shell looks top shelf. I'm replying to spam with only literal criticism. Pls don't 'whut' me.
Mike’s??!! They freeze their cannoli filling!!! One big tourist trap and absolutely not worth the long lines! People, go to either Bova or Modern for your cannoli!! Mike’s is generally avoided by the locals, not because of their long lines, it’s because of the (low) quality of their cannoli.
those cakes look vile sugary, corn syrupy mess, commercial, mass produced and disgusting, with the exception of maria's, plus do not talk whilst eating...bad manners
I absolutely love Mike's Pastry. Long lines everytime I go. I'm glad they opened a small location at North Station.

Years ago, there use to be a bakery in South Station. Rosie's I believe was the name. Delicious cakes and pastries.
I remember that place!!!!
@@JohnFGatelyMA did they ever open another location?

Yes, Modern is GREAT for cakes and pies!!
Maria's definitely my favorite!

Well that brought back some great memories of Boston for me. Cannolis, yum. Mike’s,Modern, Maria’s - it’s the holy trinity of deliciousness. Thanks!
These paesans are taking notes for our Brewers-Red Sox trip someday. Subbed you!

Been to Mike's, all the way from AZ. Best Cannoli I have had to date! 11/10. Thanks for the video.

I Miss Maria’s :(

$5.00 for one cannoli is ridiculous lol looks like her prices caused her to close shop.. That ain't Di Fara pizza
Bova’s cannoli’s absolutely
Modern the BEST by far
this is helpful jack
Wait! Why didn’t you go into Bova’s?! It’s right there!
I wonder why his Boston accent isn't very strong? You must have been away from there for quite a while
Maria's closed! :(

@@nickymiceli2746 yes Parziale also very good
@@JohnFGatelyMA the pizza at Parziale is to die for. The deserts too. For a great price too!

A NON-ITALIAN........trying to evaluate ....a southern italian pastry and bakery?????..........NO........
You can’t find a better cannoli in the U.S. than Mike’s. I’ve tried.
Mike’s is, hands down, the worst bakery in the North End.
