Kino Lorber and Shout Factory have or have had licensing deals with StudioCanal so a boutique release might be in the cards.
I grabbed the Keep when the SE dropped to about 600 or so, I checked back in 2 hrs and it was gone so our timing was about the same. I’ve never seen it but I love Tangerine Dream, I probably listen to their “Zeit” album daily, at least a few times a week (!) because I like to play it late at night as I’m winding down. Friends of mine have been recommending this film to me for years so I took a chance. I like weird, flawed stuff like David Lynch’s Dune so I think I’ll enjoy it.

I haven't been collecting for as long as you, so I'm sure I have a much bigger palate of movies I still need to see, or completely passed me by, but completely agree that so much of the fun with VS is the exploration. It's the unseen gem that you may or may not be getting lol. I've been subscribing for the last 6 years and there's so much that I dislike about the subscription these days, but it auto pulls the trigger for me on so many titles that I wouldn't necessarily take the chance on, and it's lead to a ton of discovery. I think of it as an unearthing of new films because there are so many of them I am unfamiliar with. There's definitely going to be some garbo in there, but that's sometimes half the fun with VS. You just simply don't know what you're going to get sometimes lol.

So I was particularly interested in hearing your thoughts on this topic tonight. I was shocked this thing sold out as fast as it did. That almost never happens for VS items with 10K+ production runs -- even for the relatively popular items (like Existenze). Fascinating stuff re: this film and the back story.
What's funny about CK not getting the Keep is that either him or UB told you to get that on your all's stream in case it sold out before you went to The Archive.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how does everyone see the inventories ticking down? I can see it tick down when it drops below 1K, but when the inventory starts at 12k, I can't see anything between that and 1K

I picked up the slips of The Keep and Cannibal The Musical thankfully. But I predict the release of the year will be Imprint's deluxe edition of The Neverending Story in the book packaging. I did the Paypal installments plan and I'm so glad I did. The photos of the book in person look HUGE. Could be the size of the Godzilla Criterion set.

Congo is such an F-ING blast of a movie. The cast is great! The gray gorillas look freaky as hell. It’s a really fun adventure film. The only thing that I can’t explain is why VS felt the need to put the money shot right in that poor, unfortunate gorilla’s eyeball 😉😂🤣😂🤣😂

Haven’t seen The Keep since vhs and I know it’s a mess but I still grabbed one. I’m guessing because it’s a lost Micheal Mann film that it appeals to a bigger audience because he directed it. I’d love to see the full cut of it someday.

Had it in my cart too, but bailed at the last second because of the cost (mostly because I just bought the newest release of HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD for way more than that movie is worth. hahaha) I've always liked the atmosphere of THE KEEP for the first 33-50% of the film, but don't love the movie quite that much overall. Figured I'd wait for the next (cheaper) release that comes along. Still, I never expected it to sell out that fast! Glad you managed to snag a copy!
The movie is generally a confusing mess. BUT - it's haunting, eerie, visually stunning, has the fantastic Tangerine Dream track. It's a visual and audible experience. I love it, and have loved it since I saw it on rented VHS back in the 1980's. I've got the Aussie DVD which was OK (there are two, one a bootleg, the other by ViaVision legit). I preodered the "Surprise titles" in the Flash Sale. Best of all it introduced me to the books by F. Paul WIlson. READ THEM!!!!

@@Born2BeRad hey! Just received my VS order, my copy of Blood Tracks also has a bad audio problem. VS got back to me to say the issue lies with the original material they had to work with. Have you spoken to them? Odd thing is, Daniel from the Cobwebs Channel said his copy has no audio fault 🤔
I grabbed the cardboard-lite standard edition of The Keep to save ten bucks. Guess that was my mistake since it seems the cardboard dictates the value lol, but honestly I thought the artwork looked terrible in the mock-up. It looks much cooler in your video, but knowing what we know now I'm just happy to have a copy of the movie. I anticipate someday The Keep will get a variant slip, possibly with better art anyway, but it will be interesting to see if the standard appreciates in value between now and the time VS represses it too. Even though Thriller sold out quickly, it doesn't go for that much more than retail since the standard is widely available. I predict at least 1/4th of sales for The Keep are flippers. Now that we have Trick Or Treat, Blood Tracks, and The Keep, my top 5 most wanted unreleased titles are Fright Night Part 2, The Midnight Hour, Body Count, Murder By Phone, and Iced. And I already have confirmation that Iced is happening!

It's weird I did feel bad missing out on this. I had the standard edition in my cart (the limited was long gone) but I'm not working right now so boutique blu rays aren't exactly a sensible purchase. In the end.. I had to let it go when I realised I only wanted it for its collectable cache. It's a film with a lot of mystique behind it and is one of those iconic "lost" films with a troubling story that's why it's cool that it's coming out... not that it's actually a GOOD movie! If I had more time to mull it over I might have gone for it as I am a big Michael Mann fan. When it was gone I was like "damn it you idiot!"

I'm usually bemused by most VS stuff tbh, especially the SC thing. But lately I've been buying stuff day one, Southern Comfort, The Tenant and now The Keep. I knew it was coming thanks to DPR, but still almost messed up thinking the sale was starting later, but still managed to get the LE even being in the UK. I don't think the keep is a bad movie, just a troubled production. So I get the hype, how much money has Zombies Lake made over the years, now that is a bad movie lol. Also Imprint have already put the film out on DVD before.

Got the wizard of oz 4K set twisters steelbook. And the beetlejuice2 steelbook 4K. Buy 3 or more and get them for 40%off. At sunrise records. With some Blu-Ray to. All under 400$. With is not bad for 8 movies and 3 sets.
I actually do like The Keep, most who bought it probably won't care for it, and it'll just be a display piece on their shelf unless they get tired of it. Not sure how true the Imprint news is.

Imprint just bought the rights to the keep. For a 4K . For an Australia release. And the art is nicer than the us version.

Awesome to run into to you Garrett. I snagged Cannibal too haha, was totally gonna skip it but when I saw it on the shelf I immediately snapped it up. I spent so much money on Saturday like a moron, I buy stuff from the record/CD area too. I got into punk and hardcore in 1995 (!) and have always felt that weirdo movies, horror and dumb action flicks have always gone hand in hand with being into that scene. Anyway, hopefully I run into you again and we can talk about cawfee milk and pizza strip's
