It's a pretty bad idea to take a swig of Aliens: Colonial Marines when you haven't even finished your Dragonball Evolution, Matt. Do you want to get sick?
This game is one of those that really blasted me into the life of cynicism and disappointment. I was so looking forward to it, since Aliens is probably my favorite movie of all time. The game was... well, it was playable, I guess I'll give it that. Subpar graphics, mediocre story, unrefined gameplay, terrible enemy AI, and so unimaginative that it just had to rely on nostalgia boners (like mine, admittedly) around every corner. It got the visual style down, it even added a couple new things like weapons that fit the universe really well. It's just, that's it. It's Aliens, I guess. It did the thing, it just didn't do it very well or do well in a way that makes it memorable. 5/10, painfully average, maybe an extra point from me because Aliens is so badass.
Gawd, when I saw Angry Joe's review of this game, I felt stupid and disappointed. "From the people who made Borderlands!" gave us... this? It sucked. I swear, the Aliens franchise has been at Limbo for while. From this to Prometheus and the sequel to the mobile game sequel for Aliens Isolation, I'm still... STILL hoping that the franchise can turn around for a comeback in film AND gaming.
Dude, I got the collector edition as a birthday present from my dad cause the game came out the same day as my birthday. Me and him are massive fans of Aliens and he was so excited to gift me that. I played the game and well... Fucking sucked.. I had to forced myself to pretend the game was fun so that he wouldn't get sad. Anyway that's how I learned to never trust any AAA studio ever. Statue was neat I guess.

The Doom clone Alien Trilogy from 1996 is a better Colonial Marines than Colonial Marines, and that's sad. I remember when people were hyped for Colonial Marines to come out on PS2... P...S...2.

I can't lie, I really enjoy this game. It definitely has some flaws, and those COD levels suck but the rest of the game is actually rather fun. Once you fix that typo the AI is a bit better.
Oh man, Travis Willingham was in on this? Oh, yeah, he does the voice of Prvt Peter O'Neal, the dude whose close to infested trooper Bella. Poor guy, hopefully getting paid for this wasn't a hassle.

Agreed. They made the Switch port after they obtained knowledge of new tech and used it for the Switch version. Not only excellent, but actually graphically improves in a few areas.
It still bums me out that this sold well but the far better Alien Isolation (by all accounts) did not. Hell it's likely that the negative response this got had a knock on effect to the sales of Isolation.
I have a cool tidbit about this game. Honest to god, my cousin worked for GameStop. All the way from borderlands 1 to battleborn. He said that the creative director on this game was such a nit picky ass hole he ruined the game. One time in particular is he made a whole team remake these screws in a dark steamy hallway that you couldn’t even see them in. This type of stuff just ruined the games priorities.

I was so excited for this to come out. 'Alien' was the movie that turned me into a horror fan as a kid. And then: Gearbox had it at PAX. Oh shit! Right? We went to the panel and listened to the Gearbox guys talking about how they got to peek inside of Ridley Scott's storyboard bible for the Alien universe -- not just his sketches for the movie, but his background notes about all of the lore he'd ever come up with. I was deeply, deeply jealous, and so excited, because they'd been handed the keys to the freaking kingdom after years of being death-gripped by Fox. And the game? We waited in line for ages. I got into that fucking power loader set piece they had and mugged for the camera, you bet I did. And the multiplayer? PRETTY SWEET, actually. They had it set up so that you were playing multiplayer pvp sessions against the dev team. It was just asymmetrical pvp, not anything special by that time, but it played well and gave me flashbacks to good times with the old AVP title on PC. I went home from that PAX and told my friends: I think this is actually going to be pretty sweet. They bought it on my recommendation. We found out much later that the multiplayer section was really the only section that Gearbox had handled in-house. Those MFers took the only demo-able piece of the game they even had, in full knowledge that it was *nothing* like the single player experience in polish or any other way, and they used it to sell people at PAX on what we eventually wound up with. And since we were playing versus Gearbox employees, I really felt like that made everybody involved complicit. I gave up on Gearbox after that, tbh. It wasn't the worst game ever made, but on top of bungling something so beloved by so many people, they knowingly played a shell game with the product at a public showing. It soured me on it, and them, pretty much irrevocably. Thank god for Isolation. After the above shitshow, it felt so gratifying to play a game where you could really feel the love the developers had for the Alien universe, in all of their attention to detail.
Yeah, that’s supposed to be Bishop’s bottom half, which is miraculous since it likely would have been blown out when Ripley opened the hatch. I mean, Bishop’s top half barely kept from blowing out thanks to grabbing hold of the floor grate.
Matt, the nintendo version of Alien Isolation is really really good. Very stable frame rate, looks fantastic on the handheld mode. I've not played it docked, only ever use the switch in portable mode.
Oh god, i actually remember hating this game for the simple fact that i did the same as what Matt did, if you swap your assault rifle for the Hick's shotgun you end up stick with 2 shotguns and no way to get your assault rifle back. Unless you end up finding another one of the legendary weapons (which i never found) later on in the game you end up having to do the whole game with 2 shotguns only. While 2 shotguns sounds fun on paper its horrible in practice.
The game literally told you (and Matt) that once you have two weapons you must use the weapon wheel thing by pressing B to select the other guns you have and edit your loadout, but for some reason, nobody pays attention to the text boxes lol. Really, go to 13:00 and see what i mean.
There's a really reallly REALLLY good mod for the PC version of the game that fixes a LOT of its problems and improves it a great deal. TemplarGFX's ACM Overhaul. Check it out on MOD DB.
I feel that until ALIEN: Isolation, the high point of the video games was AvP2. The first AvP film lacked appropriate violence and the bloody USCM. Why did they keep insisting on setting it in modern-day?

Me and my mom's friend walked out on Alien Covenant, and I enjoyed the first AVP.
The nuclear explosion in Aliens only wiped out the processing plant and colony buildings. The rest of the planet was unharmed.
But I remember you're going into functioning buildings on the planet.

I wanted to love Alien: Isolation but in some areas when you are 1v1 with the alien it gets way more frustrating then scary.

Alien: Isolation on the Switch is perhaps the best version of the game. It looks amazing, plays amazing and comes with all DLC.

You should apply the AI fix and make another part of this, just as an experiment to see how much the AI fix could potentially improve this game.
