I think something I always liked about the doctor that made me feel better about being on the spectrum was his tendency to name things "things" and describe them in a way that makes sense to him, and then being frustrated when other people didn't understand. (Another related thing is when he's unable to answer/elaborate further on his description.)
Also! He has a really close attachment with the tardis and his sonic screwdriver, something that goes beyond just ‘liking’ them, he personifies them and talks to them and is devastated when he loses them (like really loses them) but also when other people mess with them! Like when his says to River “I don’t just give my screwdriver to anyone”!! It’s something I’ve recognized in myself certianly!
I (an audhd person) grew up with this show from 9th Dr on, and upon watching your video going "Oh! I do exactly that!" I wonder if I latched onto this show because I saw myself. This show is one of my special interests. I love this so much, thank you!

I'm in the processus of getting my autism diagnosis, and I physically couldn't stop myself from stimming while watching this video. I don't know much about Doctor Who yet (though I love David Tennant) but there are just SO MANY things from this video that I do, maybe all of them even. It made me feel so seen, like for these few minutes I could just stop doubting myself and just feel safe and understood. Thank you for this.
Can't believe I never noticed the ear rubbing. I only just noticed recently him rubbing his eye in awkward scenes. I think I straight up absorbed the hair ruffling for myself
Two things 1. I didn’t realize this is why 10 is my absolute favorite until I watched this 2. Feeling very called out and am now wondering if I should look into that or not
46:32 I never thought he forgot this word, I always figured he quit halfway through because he realized Rose wouldn't know what he was talking about. But both interpretations work to make the point tbh and they're both relatable XD
My fave thing about this video is how detailed and in depth this is. If I ever meet irl one of those annoying people who gets pissed off when someone says the Doctor is autistic, I’m just showing them this video. They won’t watch the whole thing.
Glad I got recommended this. I have ADHD, and am likely also somewhere on the autism spectrum, and knowing that he's neurodivergent definitely explains why he's always been my favorite iteration of the Doctor.
I would love to see a similar video for Good Omens, honestly. Both main characters (one played by David as well) are very ND coded and I absolutely love pointing it out but a lot of people refuse to see it.
Being next to David Tennant when he's playing the Doctor, the other actors know he's going to get loud but (as the video shows) they still jump halfway out of their skins. 😄
7:53 i'm crying pre-fall crowley also said that EXACT same thing while looking at the stars david's characters apparently love expressing their love to inanimate things
I have to admit it’s kinda fascinating that you have characters like the Doctor and Sherlock Holmes who are never outright stated to be neurodivergent, but were clearly written with neurodivergence in mind. I do wonder some times what this tells us about representation of being aneurotypical before it even really became discussed, especially being autistic myself.
Not me giving myself a hard time for 30 years for "being weird/obsessed/have weird mannerisms" only to find out I'm in the autistic spectrum :( I've felt so out of place since was a kid. Doctor Who helped me actually love myself
30:33 Best 5th Doctor (Peter Davison) quote: “Like Alice, I try to believe three impossible things before breakfast.” I think each Doctor has their own sense of adventure. Where 5th is pretty bold and straightforward, 10th encapsulates the excitement and responding you see from neurodivergent people. Really cool! At first I thought David Tennant was just playing 10th as an intentional eccentric, but comparing this with his performance as Kilgrave in Jessica Jones, I think he might actually be neurodivergent irl. Sure, he’s a good actor and can likely display different neurodivergent aspects at will, but I can really picture it. Thanks for making such a good video! ❤ P.S. He also plays Mercutio in an audiobook for Romeo & Juliet! Another opportunity for Tennant to show off his skill in comedic dialogue and excessive ranting 😆
I was expecting this to be one of those 15 minutes compilations with some funny text over the footage. But then I saw it’s like 48 minutes long and is explaining evidence of him being neurodivergent in depth. Amazing.
I keep coming back to this video all the time because its so well made! I wouldn't have picked up how many different ND traits Ten has and I love that us NDs have someone like The Doctor to see ourselves in =D
As a neurodivergent myself I find it really interesting to know that my favorite doctor (tied with 12th as I started watching in the 12ths era and watched a few of his episodes before restarting back to 9th) is neurodivergent.
please ive lost track of howmany times ive watched this and im so thankful for this comfort vid i watch when i feel down about being an autie. if you have time, please please please make a part two :)
I don't know how I watched Doc Who and didn't think I was ND at the time. I definitely have ADHD according to my therapist; she said that I was basically bullied as a kid and learned to cover a lot of symptoms with something more acceptable. I have a short social battery because I have to cover so much up.
This is my new favorite video ever!! Love this and all the explanations about neurodivergent thingys, I’ve always headcanoned him as neurospicy and I love that it’s canon. And I love to see new doctor who videos on TH-cam! So underrated
Donna gives me life she's so supportive and caring. She can joke around and take the piss a bit but they both know it's all fun but she can comfort him when he's not doing well. I never really noticed it until watching this. Best companion ever I'm so excited for the anniversary I missed them. I just know I'm gonna cry so much tho lol
I love this. I feel like not many people realize how to understand him. It's hard to explain, really, but.. this video could explain it very well. A lot of these traits are the reasons why I adore him, in spite of one being that I am obsessed with David himself and his mannerisms and such; but the 10th Doctor is really different. He's brilliant! I love to understand him. I love to understand 11, too, these two are my ultimate favorites. I hate to see 10 frown. David's frown is so painful. His crying, 10's/David's in general, hurt the most. He might be complex but I absolutely adore him for this, I love to get him. He's a mood sometimes too, and I can't help but to relate to him. It can't be put to words, multiple words, or even thoughts on how much I love 10 and David. Just so much. I can't wait to watch this, and I can't wait to share it to people (Like my mother, who finds him quite excitable and restless, plus hard to understand) but I love him nonetheless. I wish I could be more like him, so upbeat and happy (I ignore his regeneration because it is poison for me.) I love this boy.
Much of this could apply to other incarnations of the doctor too. I think all of the doctor is neurodivergent. 11 is a prime example. 4 as well, and 5 and 12 too. Definitely others too.
The episode Midnight really emphasised the fact that despite all of his knowledge, smarts and wit, he lacked the ability to understand basic human emotions. His tactless efforts to try and earn the trust of the scared passengers (telling they needed him due to the fact he was cleverer than they were whilst being none the wiser in that situation, and also being shady about his identity) backfired and turned them against him, almost getting him killed. You could see him becoming more baffled by their behaviour because it didn't make logical sense to him.
I have ADHD and I feel like I can relate to this a bit too much. Every scene just seems so… me I guess. It’s fun to have a character that acts just like I do.
Hey so I’ve been thinking I’m ND/somewhere on the autistic spectrum but my parents won’t let me get evaluated and this has really put it into perspective. I know it’s not good to assume but as an afab person autism can get missed in females especially if they’re high functioning. This has really shown me all the traits I really show and things I could talk to my doctor about.
It can very easily get missed. I'm also AFAB, and I didn't find out until I was about 17/18. If you really identify with it, you can definitely talk to your doctor about it! Its worth a try.
I actually really like this. You don't often see videos like this. Plus, I like to think I'd be the same if I had a time machine :D. A breakdown of eleven or any other doctor would be cool!
This video is EPIC thank you so much!!! I didn't know I was ND when Ten was first broadcast as I was [what I now know to be] masking most of my life. This just makes my love for Ten/DT a MILLION times better because I relate so hard to most if not all of these!
He strikes me more as AuADHD. Because of his hyper mania and in ability to sit still. My brother is autistic and can sit in one place completely still for hours on end. While I with ADHD can't stop fidgeting and moving.
The only sad part about this is that neurodivergent people in fiction are worshipped by neurotypicals, but these same neurotypicals are so terrible to neurodivergent ppl in real life. Without even realizing it. I'm convinced that if the Doctor didn't time travel and stayed on Earth for a while like nd humans, he'd get severely bullied and/or else/worse. Which is why he represents hope to many neurodivergent people (especially kids?), he was a new way (fictional but still) of seeing how neurodivergent could live without this part of the world. It will always be so inspiring for some reason.
NT's love to watch ND characters on tv and media (many memorable/funny characters have ND traits) because they're funny and entertaining to watch on a screen. However, their opinion about them would quickly change if they had to interact, socialise and living with these same characters in real life. Normal well adjusted NT characters don't make great characters in media/TV.
this video just perfectly illustrated a point i didn't even know I was trying to make! I'd be interedted to see something similar with 11 and 12 honestly because I feel like they are similar but in very different ways.
I've been diagnosed with Asperger's, now ASD generally I guess since I was like 9 or 10. And due to really being unable to mask until I was in highschool, I've been practically openly autistic all my life. I picked up Doctor Who proper during Covid, one of the routines I picked up to keep myself busy and not go insane. And I really liked 10, by far my favourite of the New Doctors. I guess maybe that wasn't coincidental. I liked 13 as well because I felt like she was equally quirky. It's just her episodes were written really badly. Happy to see David and Catherine return to the show, and RTD! I really need to catch up so I can watch 14 and enjoy it like I did 10.

Amazing, I knew I was neurodivergent, but this video actually added more things to the piles of stuff I do that fall in the neurodivergent categorie. X'D Anyway, I knew I felt more connected to 10 for a reason!
10, 11, 12, 13 at LEAST are all Neurodivergent. I think that's a major reason I love DW so much. I see myself represented in the Doctor, and they don't need to mask their idiosyncrasies to fit in or dumb themself down for anyone. They excel and save the day with their unique view of the world, out of the box thinking, problem solving skills and retention for bizarre information, while also showing that it can be a lonely life when you don't have people around you who really see you or understand and appreciate you at your most authentic. Anyway, I'm glad other people see this too. Thank you
this video was actually quite a bit educational for me! i haven't been able to get checked out or tested n stuff, but i know that i relate to A LOT of Neurodivergent characters and people. I heard a couple of new words and a bunch of things i relate to in this video and was like: oh! nice! i do that!
Same! I’ve never been diagnosed, and I know it’s not good to speculate but I hope one day I can be officially tested. I always relate way too heavily to ND characters and traits.
it's so cool to see other people finding these similarities too!! there are quite a few traits in here that i never noticed with ten specifically. i would love to see one of these done with the twelfth doctor, too. he's always the one i've related to the most when it comes to neurodivergent behavior
I think it's interesting that so many alien characters are neurodivergent coded. A way to make them different in a way thats not too different. They're different in such a human way, a way that can still be relatable, and likable, and "quirky"
36:37 I think this one shows his humanness more than ND... he'd just found and lost the only other member of his species, this would be devastating regardless of neuropathy.
also related with this doctor the most, and personally i've never been diagnosed with autism or adhd, but its nice to relate to someone in fictional media for once because it doesnt happen often [never been able to relate to my peers either, schoolmates and friends or others in general hahhhh] edit: also, i love how you complied these into a video! the part on meltdowns and shutdowns made me cry, very and i really want to express how nice it is to see that someone in fictional media does experience these [theres probably other medias that cover this, but none come to mind currently ahah]

I think that’s why the doctor is probably one of the only time lords who doesn’t live by time lord rules
@@halogalaxy5612ehh. I’m pretty sure we have met just as many renegade timelord as we have ones who aren’t at least in terms of names characters
Aziraphale: I like pears
Crowley: 7:02
As someone with Austism and ADHD. I always did things that the doctor did and I think that's why i always found comfort in the 10th doctor.
I (an audhd person) grew up with this show from 9th Dr on, and upon watching your video going "Oh! I do exactly that!" I wonder if I latched onto this show because I saw myself. This show is one of my special interests. I love this so much, thank you!
My partner always points out his autistic strong sense of justice :)
That's a good one! Very good point, I can definitely see that.
awhh i truly love Rose. Others are either shocked or might get upset with him, while Rose just laughs/doesnt mind. AWW ❤❤
I know im neurodivergent, but I haven't been formally diagnosed with anything yet. I stim quite a lot, and this made me really happy that now of my favorite shows show cased this
I'm in the processus of getting my autism diagnosis, and I physically couldn't stop myself from stimming while watching this video.
Two things
1. I didn’t realize this is why 10 is my absolute favorite until I watched this
2. Feeling very called out and am now wondering if I should look into that or not
Boy do I have news for you
Same, def look into it
I'm in the process of writing a fanfic with 10 and being reminded of all the little behaviors is extremely helpful.
Please tell me it ain’t some sexual self fan fic..
I love how the majority of the rambling racing thoughts are with Donna because he knows she can keep up and honestly speak even faster than him 😂
Glad I got recommended this.
I don't know how John Simm managed to look lifeless when David Tennant was yelling so close to his ear 😅
7:53
i'm crying pre-fall crowley also said that EXACT same thing while looking at the stars
david's characters apparently love expressing their love to inanimate things
You’re right! Thanks for pointing that out
I have to admit it’s kinda fascinating that you have characters like the Doctor and Sherlock Holmes who are never outright stated to be neurodivergent, but were clearly written with neurodivergence in mind.
P.S. He also plays Mercutio in an audiobook for Romeo & Juliet! Another opportunity for Tennant to show off his skill in comedic dialogue and excessive ranting 😆
I never realized how much of a grounding/comforting force Donna was for him-
i feel that also wanting to Eat ball bearings is a very neurodivergent trait
Tbh he would probably eat them even if they weren't the edible ones
Thank you for your hard work!
Ofc, it was my pleasure! Thanks for watching :)
please ive lost track of howmany times ive watched this and im so thankful for this comfort vid i watch when i feel down about being an autie. if you have time, please please please make a part two :)
@pratchett0836 I'm so glad you enjoy it this much, it means a lot 🩷 A part 2 is on the way :)
@@rainbow_alipaca ❤❤❤
@@rainbow_alipacayayyy part 2!!
I wish I could be more like him, so upbeat and happy (I ignore his regeneration because it is poison for me.)
I love this boy.
Much of this could apply to other incarnations of the doctor too. I think all of the doctor is neurodivergent. 11 is a prime example. 4 as well, and 5 and 12 too. Definitely others too.
I agree! The doctor as a person is absolutely neurodivergent. I just wanted to point out the neurodivergent traits for 10 specifically
@@rainbow_alipacahe isn’t
at 8:50 i ALWAYS crack up when 10 says something silly like "it goes ding when theres stuff"
I've always felt a connection with 10, but couldn't figure it out, but now seeing this video (and the fact I'm neurodivergent myself) I can see why
28:03
I physically cannot stop laughing at
"MAIDEN!"
A breakdown of eleven or any other doctor would be cool!
>answering things literally
"I'm being facetious, aren't I?"
NO WONDER I found this version so relatable growing up!
Could never put my finger on it till now.
Learning more about myself than I am about a series I haven't had the chance to watch...
This video is EPIC thank you so much!!! I didn't know I was ND when Ten was first broadcast as I was [what I now know to be] masking most of my life. This just makes my love for Ten/DT a MILLION times better because I relate so hard to most if not all of these!
I have a lot of his stims and I talk to myself all the time. I appreciate that you showed the talking to himself.
Honestly, this explains how much I've related to the 10th doctor growing up
Me relating to MANY of those things: Welp, Ten is for sure autistic, not gonna lie, that's comforting ❤
He strikes me more as AuADHD. Because of his hyper mania and in ability to sit still. My brother is autistic and can sit in one place completely still for hours on end. While I with ADHD can't stop fidgeting and moving.
the way he says ‘void stuff :D’ at 46:52 makes me so happy. new vocal stim acquired lol
So true I just love how his nd traits make him so unique and lovable
Yeah I think you can sort of tell that that would happen because quite a lot of humans find him a bit annoying
This was a great video to turn on and listen to while doing some chores that I've been putting off. Thanks!!
Thank you so much for taking the 4 months to make this. You will have helped a lot of people as seen by the likes and comments.
In Human nature and Family of Blood, when he turns himself human, you can totally see his ADHD win. (Especially the AD part of it)
this video just perfectly illustrated a point i didn't even know I was trying to make!

I happy stimmed the entire way through this, thank you SO SO MUCH for putting this together!!! 💕🌷 Doctor Who has been a huge part of my life for so long and you’ve beautifully encapsulated a big part of why it feels so safe to me 💕🌷
So cool to see someone else making ND ten content!!! This video was delightful and so well put together I’m sure it took a load of work thank you so much for making it :D
I absolutely love this!
As someone who has had to multiple reports on exhibition of neurodivergence for my degree, (including one where I had to analyse the traits of a neurodivergent character) videos like this are amazing!
What high praise, thank you very much!
@@rainbow_alipaca when I had to do those reports my entire list of sources was compilations like these lol
This doctor also has that autistic rizz that makes everyone he meets fall in love with him
aaauuuhhhhhhhh of COURSE how have i missed this
i knew there was a reason why 10 was my favorite, all this time been like, "why aren't more people like 10?" and, "there's just something about him"
(arranges limbs in a configuration never before seen by mankind) (while eating entire bag of 100% plain and boring popcorn for its utterly consistent deliciousness)
"what a fascinating mystery"
anyway thanks for being SO comprehensive, lol. loved it
alternate title : david tennant perfectly impersonating me for 48 minutes and a quarter
That has to be the best video i have seen on the Doctor's neurodivergency! Lovely!
Wow thank you so much!
@@rainbow_alipaca I must insist, this is a surprisingly very comforting video. Good job 💖
I love this, made me feel less alone. Thank you.
I watched this video sitting exactly like in the deleted scene from the Fires of Pompei, this position REALLY is accurate lmao.
Update since I finished watching : amazing video, congrats for all the work ! I noticed most of those things but not all of them so it was very interesting. I just want to watch it on loop now haha
36:40 here he's even rocking back and forth, aka stimming
You're absolutely right, I missed that! Great catch.
21:38 THE FACT THAT THATS DAVID FORGETTING HIS LINE i love it sk much its cannon in my heart
Amazing, I knew I was neurodivergent, but this video actually added more things to the piles of stuff I do that fall in the neurodivergent categorie. X'D
Anyway, I knew I felt more connected to 10 for a reason!
I heard a couple of new words and a bunch of things i relate to in this video and was like: oh! nice! i do that!
I'm so glad it helped out! ❤
The 11th doctor is my favourite neurodivergent character in all media
36:37 I think this one shows his humanness more than ND... he'd just found and lost the only other member of his species, this would be devastating regardless of neuropathy.
You know you're the same kinda neurodivergent when the section on chair rocking and swaying comes up WHILE I'M SWINGING MY CHAIR AROUND
also related with this doctor the most, and personally i've never been diagnosed with autism or adhd, but its nice to relate to someone in fictional media for once because it doesnt happen often
[never been able to relate to my peers either, schoolmates and friends or others in general hahhhh]
edit: also, i love how you complied these into a video! the part on meltdowns and shutdowns made me cry, very and i really want to express how nice it is to see that someone in fictional media does experience these [theres probably other medias that cover this, but none come to mind currently ahah]
Anyway, regardless of my comments, I think this is brilliant, and I really do hope you make more videos like this!
24:09 This is more about the TARDIS going to where the Doctor is needed vs where the Doctor wanted to go. (Where/when)
And the one immediately after was a mistake made by the Fourth Doctor.
And the one after that is again potentially the TARDIS... though the Doctor doesn't notice, which *is* ND....
And 25:07 he just picks a direction and then is told the other way.
