Other facts: The coronation of George IV was the last to feature a Coronation Banquet in Westminster Hall, with the King's Champion in armor on horseback riding through the hall and challenging anyone who would deny George's title. It was also the last to have a formal procession on foot from Westminster Hall to the Abbey. The coronation of Charles II was the last one where the new king would ride forth from the Tower of London on the eve of his crowning to show himself to his people. The coronation of James I was the first time the service was spoken in English; previously it had been in Latin. Edward IV's was the first where the non-liturgical portions of the ceremony were in English rather than Norman French. Edward VI's coronation was the only one where the bishops and lords kissed the monarch's foot as part of the homage, evidently in imitation of the contemporary practice in Rome towards the Pope and to reinforce Edward's position as Head of the Church in England. The coronation of Henry I was the quickest after the death of the previous monarch: four days. After his elder brother William II's "accidental" death while hunting, Henry rode hard to London, seized the treasury, and had the nobles make him king instead of still another brother who had a better claim but who was both controversial and living outside England. George III's coronation was probably the worst in terms of gaffs, with Victoria's a close second. However, the riot of looting following the banquet of George IV's--together with the public spectacle of George's estranged queen unsuccessfully trying to enter the Abbey--makes that one the most embarrassing coronation as well as costly. The coronation of John was the last where the king was elected before his crowning, bypassing his nephew. Only two coronations omitted the communion service: John's and James II's. Not something to emulate. Henry VIII tried to change the coronation oath before the ceremony to strengthen his position versus the Church, but this was before the break with Rome which wouldn't happen for more than twenty years.
King Henry VIII did not have an "Oath of Allegiance" sworn to him as "Head of the Church" at his coronation. Henry was Married to Catherine of Aragon. They were both teenagers and still Catholic.
Well did have to do an oath of allegiance but not at his first coronation And the video said Henry’s son was the first Protestant king but it was Henry since by the time he died he had left the Catholic Church and accepted much of Protestant Christianity, just because he wanted a divorce
My great grandmother was born 2 years after King George VI reign began, but she had older siblings 20 years actually meaning they have seen monarchs we have not. From their birth, to the siblings who are now alive. They have seen 4 monarchs. I like how you pointed out the strife between the mainly French nobles and the English commoners, plus the Scottish. People tend to forget that there was a large difference between the two, especially during the reigns of William, the Henry’s and Richard’s, but eventually like you pointed out in the coronation of Henry IV, the languages started to mix with each other and became Middle English, which we now have as Modern English. Very cool to point that out, great video

Handel's version of Zadok the priest was first performed at George II coronation, but the anthem itself has been sung in various forms of the anthem for more than 1000 years, dating from the early Saxon coronations
The first photography of the coronation ceremony inside the Abbey was at George V's. Edward VII's coronation had plenty of photography and even early silent film footage, but only of the processions outside. While not as controversial as the question of televising Elizabeth II's ceremony, there was some misgivings about the provision of radio broadcasting and black-and-white cinema cameras at George VI's coronation. As with the 1953 ceremony, some planners were concerned about radio and film "evesdropping" on a solemn religious ceremony, or radio feed being listened to by blokes on their third pint down at the pub.
That does make sense. Technology has a tendency to intimidate people, but once we become accustomed to it, we're unable to imagine a life without it. I'm not sure I understood your last sentence... Are you saying they would have been startled or such a religious ceremony should not be broadcasted to some drunk blokes at the pub?
Does anyone think Queen Jane needed to be mentioned? I realise she was only Queen for 9 says and didn't actually get crowned. But, she was still there.
Good attempt at joining the dots, but some of the content is incorrect: King John didn't bring remove the Stone of Scone (Destiny), it was his grandson Edward I who captured it after defeating Scottish King John Balliol in 1296; Henry III had two not three Coronations (1216, 1220) because the first was a hurried affair and not presided over by the Archbishop of Canterbury and not at Westminster Abbey; Henry VIII was a Roman Catholic at his Coronation and recognised the pope as Head of the Church. That changed in the 1530s when he broke away from Catholicism and became head of the church in England.

Why did you omit the pre-Norman kings of England? King Edgar’s coronation almost 100 years earlier at Bath Abbey in 973 forms the basis of the modern ceremony.
I know it is disputed, but in my opinion (and it may only be my opinion), Jane Grey was Englands first Queen Regnant. Edward VI named her as his successor, and she was proclaimed Queen - that's good enough for me. It irks me that she is still known as Lady Jane rather than Queen Jane. I suspect the royal family will avoid using the name Jane so there will never be the question of if she will be Queen Jane II. Doesn't really affect the video though, I still enjoyed it!
Thanks for watching Andrew! That is so interesting. The protestants vs Catholics chapter is truly fascinating and it warrants some more reading to be done by us. Maybe a video on it sometimes soon...
Edward VI named Lady Jane Grey as his successor because he knew his older half - sister Mary would convert England back to Catholicism and he and the people didn't want a catholic monarchy, so the privy council advised him to declare Mary illegitimate but told him he would have to declare his other half - sister Elizabeth illegitimate as well even though she was a Protestant. Jane was proclaimed queen 👑 and ruled England for nine days until Mary was declared queen 👑 and Jane was imprisoned in the tower of London. Mary knew Jane was being used as a political pawn and refused to execute her, but when a rebellion broke out in Jane's favour she executed Jane. Jane might have made a better queen however, as Mary actually did return power to the Vatican and killed as many protestants as she could by burning them to death by setting them on fire 🔥 which is why was known as 'Bloody Mary'!
@@AIHistorianOfficialPersonally I think that Mary was wrong to kill people just because she thought they were the wrong religion so why do you thinks it's good that she killed them? When you think about it don't you think it's wrong and pure evil for her to kill them? Or maybe you mean it's good that I provided you with that historical information. I'm so confused. Either way I'm guessing something happened in her childhood to cause her to hate protestants, but what makes it more shocking is that her burning of protestants was depicted in the Cate Blanchette movie Elizabeth in which Bloody Mary is played by actress, writer, director and comedienne Kathy Burke from Gimme Gimme Gimme, absolutely fabulous and Kevin and Perry go large.
@@AIHistorianOfficial what do you mean “IF” the Bloody Mary story is true? Huh? IT IS TRUE. If you’re going to call yourself a historian then you should know this. 🤔

A beautiful spectacle, cleverly done, though it does play fast and loose with historical facts. Also: it’s Westminster Abbey, not Westminister, as you pronounced it at the end.
I think there may be something wrong in what you say about King John and the Stone of Destiny. According to anything I can find (and what I recall), it was Edward I that took the stone to England and I can't find anything to so with King John and the stone of destiny. Have you a source for this?
I'm sure we double checked!🤨 As you you can guess, it is very difficult to report on stories that took place centuries before us. You may be right, it could be an apocryphal story considering the stone's lingering history. Either way, what a wonderful story the stone has! Or rather, quite a number of wonderful stories.
Yes, definitely Edward 1, the chair he built specifically had space for the spoil, as we see depicted. Sitting over the stone, so symbolic of Scottish sovereignty, was a show of dominance. Perhaps some confusion with the Johns? John Balliol was King of Scots from 1292 until 1296, the year Edward seized the stone. Asked by the Scots to help choose a King from a number of claimants, Edward chose Balliol & proceeded to undermine his reign & treat Scotland as a vassal state. Some Scots nobles did rebel, forming a council of guardians.
Nice video thank you for letting me relive all these wonderfull coronations. I flew from my country just to attended the coronation of Charles III. It was truly a beautiful event!❤

Great video but John never had the Stone of Scone so idk how anyone fought over it at his coronation banquet. The stone was also not kept under the throne until the seventeenth century, before that they just sat directly on the stone.
James I was not King of Great Britain and Ireland. He was King of Scotland as James VI until the death of Elizabeth I in 1603, when became James I of England. The creation of the Kingdom of Great Britain was in 1707 by the Union Act of 1707. Ireland was absorved in 1801 when The 1800 Union Act came into force.
James called himself King of Great Britain, but legally England and Scotland were still separate countries that happened to have the same monarch, until the Treaty of Union a century later. Spain was much the same prior to Philip V, with Castile and Aragon being considered separate although sharing a monarch who was styled the King of Spain.

There were 7 Queens who ruled by their own right. 6 were in the video. Mary, Elizabeth I, Mary II, Anne, Victoria, Elizabeth II. Mary II ruled by her own right along with her husband William. Though, she was the actual heir to the throne. 7 would be Jane Grey, who was queen for 9 days but never had a coronation. Instead she was beheaded.
The images are great. However the images move along too fast to really 'take-in' the scenery. Still liked the video, though. One question I had though was, where are your sources / (visual) source material? Some of the images / scenes I have never seen before. That's why I was confused wondering are these just totally made up imagined images OR were the images based on something very specific.

I love all the pictures, it made me think that it came from a movie. ❤
They sure are beautiful but are they based on scientific historic knowledge ?
My grandpa was born in 1949 he also served in Falklands war (in royal Navy) with Britishers. And now he is still there and attended king Charles Ill's coronation. He was there in king George's reign. Queen elizabeth Il's full reign and now In Charles Ill's reign. He is still alive in 2023. 🎉
Absolutely beautifully done!
Thankyou James! We appreciate the beautiful comment🤝🤝
Very cool video👍 Did you make the voice over with ai too?
Why did you omit the pre-Norman kings of England? King Edgar’s coronation almost 100 years earlier at Bath Abbey in 973 forms the basis of the modern ceremony.
Well said. I believe Harold II Godwinson was the first at Westminster. Built by Edward the confessor.
You are right! Maybe a Part 2 is warranted🤔
@Tom Spence Wow, if that bloody Mary story is actually true, that is so wicked but sooooo good! Thanks for that🫡🫡
@@AIHistorianOfficialPersonally I think that Mary was wrong to kill people just because she thought they were the wrong religion so why do you thinks it's good that she killed them?
James I wasn’t "the first Scottish king to rule the kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland", he was the first king. Period.
Edward the third was up there too
This type of channel should be appreciated more I'm a science student but I have a thing for history but other channels have long videos and I like this video how it tells the name and the needed info.
A beautiful spectacle, cleverly done, though it does play fast and loose with historical facts. Also: it’s Westminster Abbey, not Westminister, as you pronounced it at the end.
Thanks for watching Charlotte! A little slip up, you are right✍✍
What a long standing history. Wow.
Definitely Edward I, not John. Wikipedia has the full story, as well as numerous historical sources.
I loved this. Good job 🎉
We appreciate it!🤝🤝
Nice video thank you for letting me relive all these wonderfull coronations. I flew from my country just to attended the coronation of Charles III. It was truly a beautiful event!❤
Wow, that is so cool!😯The atmosphere in London truly must have been something else!
This just looks beautiful!
We appreciate you watching Maureen!
So sensual and so erotic yet so touching
Yeah, these recreations are way too attractive lol
I have to keep pausing to look at the incredible images you have. WOW! What program did you use?
Well done! Thanks for the hard work it just have been.
We appreciate you watching Nina!🙂

We appreciate it akjdhajkd jhaghjkadh! 🤝😂
There have only been 11 British coronatons, the first being that of George I.
Great video but John never had the Stone of Scone so idk how anyone fought over it at his coronation banquet. The stone was also not kept under the throne until the seventeenth century, before that they just sat directly on the stone.
I love this video. Did you also have a video on the rise and fall of the Roman Empire? I’m unable to find it and wondered if it was removed?
This was super-fascinating
What about Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, and Lady Jane Grey?
Fair enough! Maybe an in-depth video soon on some of the magnificent women that came before us🤝🤝
Compliments from the Kingdom of the Netherlands! 🇳🇱
🤝🤝🤝
James I was not King of Great Britain and Ireland. He was King of Scotland as James VI until the death of Elizabeth I in 1603, when became James I of England. The creation of the Kingdom of Great Britain was in 1707 by the Union Act of 1707. Ireland was absorved in 1801 when The 1800 Union Act came into force.
he styled himself king of great Britain + forced the Scottish parliament to comply, but no such kingdom existed until 1707
James called himself King of Great Britain, but legally England and Scotland were still separate countries that happened to have the same monarch, until the Treaty of Union a century later. Spain was much the same prior to Philip V, with Castile and Aragon being considered separate although sharing a monarch who was styled the King of Spain.
Great video, thanks!
Appreciate it Renata!🙂
Richard II was only 10 when he was crowned
He fell asleep during the coronation
I like your photorealistic pictures of all the british coronations in history, It's like we were there for all of them
You must be some artistic genius here
We appreciate your beautiful comment Tom! 🤝But the reality is all credit should go to the clever, hard working men/women innovating and providing us with the technology to make videos like this possible!
@@AIHistorianOfficial Well then, in that case, I praise you and your hardworking team behind this video with the most impressive technology
As what they say, it takes one person to dream of something big but it takes a big group of people to make that dream a reality
This has made our day Tom! Hope you have a great rest of the day or night, wherever on this large sphere you may be🙏🙏
Why didn't they chose to keep separate names... It's so difficult to remember which king I II etc in history exam
Hurr durr it hurt my brain brain
Very much enjoyed this!
We appreciate that Taylor!🤝🤝
That was Awsome! But AI needs to improve the hands! 😅
Absolutely! 😂 Thankyou
Wooooooow! beautiful
We appreciate you, Eugene!! 🤝🤝
We need more videos like this
What is the background music
I love every second of the video respect to British airways
This is great to see thank you 🙏 👍
We appreciate it! 🤝🤝
AI was doing well enough until it screwed up at the very last coronation (in the order in the video) by pronouncing "Westminster" as "West Minister".
Amazing. Love the history wow.
What is the bgm called ? It’s so nice 👍
Love the video,whats the music?
Here you are watching so seriously as if an exam will come next while you almost fall asleep when this was being discussed at school. 😂
Please which app did you use in editing this video?
And now i shall crown 👑 this well done elaborate Contant bravo 👏🏾
We appreciate it , thankyou!🤝🤝
@@AIHistorianOfficialcan you make the japanese ones too
Had that gem for about 8 centuries
what app was used to make this video
A combination of Midjourney, Stable Diffusion and Dall-E. Some re-mixing and blending, as well as some final finishing touches using adobe!
@@AIHistorianOfficial Ok! Just wanted to know which coronations used which ai and so on and how you actually made the pictures! not trying to be that guy but it would be nice to know as it's for a school project!
God Save The King.
From USA.
🇬🇧🇺🇸
1:44 This was the King the American colonial places had a beef with
As well as 'The Napoleonic Wars' and 'The Industrial Revolution'. What an extraordinary life he must have lived to be at the centre of so many insane chapters of history!
@@AIHistorianOfficial And he pooed purple droppings and went mad after losing his biggest British colony, America. Ironically enough if America stayed a UK country maybe we have two United States: half what we know, half the Natives.
@@AIHistorianOfficial I like the phrase "insane chapters in history" used in reference to George III, the mad king...
@@falconeshield You mean stayed a colony longer.
If it did, slavery would likely be abolished much earlier than 1865.
Very interesting. George One though? He was George the First.
🤫🤫
this cool !
Actually the first coronation broadcast on tv was George VI although they didn’t film inside Westminster Abbey. Elizabeth II was the first broadcast from inside the abbey.
Are you sure? Mass TV production only began after the second world war. We are very positive it was Queen Elizabeth!
@@AIHistorianOfficial it may not have been televised but shown in a cinema. My grandparents were far too young to remember George VI’s coronation (my grandmother is 88 and would have been 2 when he ascended to the throne) but she has mentioned going to the cinema as a child to watch what would now be classed as TV shows.
Absolutely interesting
King Richard iii was really handsome 😮😮😮
"George One"? Puleeze.
None of the AI portraits looked like the monarchs in their contemporary paintings
And the crowns and jewel settings are (I will not say mostly) wrong. But as a narrative, it works.
great work. this vid is awesome. what ai software or app do you use
Thankyou, we appreciate it! 🤝🤝A combination of Midjourney, Stable Diffusion and Dall-E. Some re-mixing and blending, as well as some finishing touches through adobe!
Amazing! Can we also have a video about the Albanian medieval nobleman and warlord Skanderbeg and his amazing 25 victories against the ottomans?
Appreciate it, you've sparked our curiosity!🤝 Albania is truly a fascinating country with rich history & culture. You have planted a new seed and a lot of reading on Albanian history is to come.
@@AIHistorianOfficial Thank you very much! There are many videos and informations and books especially about Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, I really hope you will include him, if you start reading about him you will truly know what a great commander he was, the shield of Europe :))
GREAT.
You DID NOT just say WestMINISTER!! Or, did I hear incorrectly?
When was this renamed?
It’s crazy that there’s only been 3 Queens to rule, in their own right. Hopefully years from now, we will have more Queens! ❤
Queens or Prime Ministers? 🤔
There have been 7 Queens.
As it stands there won’t be another queen for many years unless prince george has a girl as his first born
Oh okay excuse me I must’ve missed something. Still not the same as Kings. My bad y’all.
Queen Mary I 🙏 thank you!
Informative
Victoria really said "yo delete that"
What about Alfred, Edward and especially Aethelstan?
