That is a lovely review. Let me see a new CPU and MB. What about MB memory? Will the MB manufacturers play games with their BIOS for this CPU? If I need to buy a new MB, I might as well get a ZERO case and MB.

I'm pretty sure the "filler tile" is exactly that - a piece of plain, dark silicon that was inserted to fill a physical gap and make this assemblage look like a monolithic chip. I'd say that they haven't fooled anybody like that, but I actually think they have.

Don't underestimate this new generation in gaming, there won't be any parity. Having way less power draw, they will be highly overclockable, so people would be pushing them to the same power draws as 14th gen but with much bigger gains. I leave here my prediction that the 285k will be around 15% faster than 14900k in games when both CPUs are o/c for daily use.

The most interesting offering is likely to be the upcoming Ultra3 205/215. Four super fast p-cores at 4.00ghz baseline and four very fast e-cores at 3.3 ghz, ...all 8 cores drawing only 65 watts. We have not seen higher clocked 65 watts cpu's from Intel in a very long time. I hope its priced for less than 140 dollars! It would be a true breakthrough in the entry level segment. I wish there would also be a Ultra3 215 "k" version, ...it would justify the "Ultra" namesake. Imagine slapping an inexpensive and fast running entry level Ultra3 K on a Z motherboard and overclocking it like mad without fear of burning a 600 dollar cpu. Then in a year or so of fun upgrading the rig to a Core Ultra 9.

@@sezwo5774 That does sound very cool! Especially in this generation where efficiency is the focus! The big question will be whether the Ultra 3 will comes with Arc Xe integrated graphics and NPU?
      Great one, thanks for watching!

MY i9-13th Gen CPU is ticking right along...any degradation is minimal, if it exists at all. I'm interested in Intel's apparent shift from making super-speedy CPUs to making more efficient CPUs. Have we reached 'peak CPU'? Maybe...is there anybody out there who is seriously handicapped by the 13th-14th gen [assuming solid performance] being just not fast enough? I wonder... I will be sitting this generation out, unless my current system blows up or melts down, but I am definitely interested to see where Intel goes. Maybe because I haven't suffered CPU problems with my 13th Gen, I'm taking amore tolerant view...but barring _more_ mishaps and eff-ups, I'm willing to trust Intel to get back on track with future development and production.

Look the simple fact is the 14900K should have never existed.
I feel the 285K shouldn’t be compared to it but to the 13900K. The 14900K was just pushed with power into oblivion and was just straight up uncoolable on an unlocked power setting.
If the 14900K wouldn’t have existed then people would have been much happier with the new 285K.
My14900K actually burned out in a few months of use and became unstable after like 2-3 months, if the 285K is almost the same performance but a much better architecture and power use thats a huge win. (Plus having M.2 NVME SSD gen 5 slot that doesn’t take away 8 lanes from the GPU and also having a better memory controller)
I ordered the 285K and plan to get it either to the same speed or faster than the 14900K by means of a little bit of overclocking, unlocking the power setting and using 8000MT/s DDR5 to hopefully get it to quite a bit higher performance than intel is showing of with their low power plan set and 6400MT/s RAM.

Slides from INTEL are 250W/6500 RAM speed. Leaked specs put 295W as extreme and 8000 as the sweet spot for RAM speed and up to 10000. So the real performance most likely is lot higher. Also X870/Z890 boards have direct PCIe 5.0 lane to CPU "REBAR on steroids". Also you see 8 pin power for the PCIe 5.0 limited to handle 150W. Very interesting add on that will raise questions as INTEL ARC architecture is dual silicon GPU pairing to CPU. AMD/Nvidia are different architecture. So my conclusion is that it can only be for INTEL ARC. Maybe it will be a buffer of some sort between GPU and CPU to avoid bottlenecks. Just a guess.
13th and 14th were destroyed by Asus. W680 almost brought the internet down. So I think the Arrow Lake is under powered to limit what motherboard manufacturers can do. Note 100% motherboards are Chinese. 100% CPU's are western U.S/UK.

@@paulboyce8537 that is an excellent hypotheses, Having power headroom for Battlemage GPUs! I hope you're right man great observation! The slides also say somewhere the max boost power is still 250w and that's a software limit right? Microcode... Very interesting, thanks for watching!

So far the reviews have been a bit underwhelming to say the least. The productivity performance is certainly there, but the gaming performance just needs some optimization.. The Ultra 200s series needs some time to simmer, as it got server rather undercooked.
I think I'd throw some blame at Microsoft as well. There's been a lot of videos and forum post for both Intel and AMD videos decrying windows updates 22H2 up to present 24H2. The performance has notably declined since 21H2 in all sorts of benchmarks and games tests.
Hopefully Microshit wakes up and optimizes their piles of crap they've dump on users.. Linux is tempting but just won't work well with all the mods I run in the modded games I play as well the ones I host on my home server.

Are you giving Intel another chance?

    • @paulboyce8537
      @paulboyce8537 หลายเดือนก่อน

INTEL did nothing wrong. Year ago they said they were told by U.S security to pull out from China. Hence 15k jobs lost. And it seems not a moment too late. Yet the damage was huge from Chinese attack. Politics and secrets and public often are the last to know. Internet went down as 100% of the INTEL CPU's failed on W680 boards. World stopped. This is all linked as you see War in Ukraine and North Korea doing the Chinese dirty work and China blockading Taiwan now in prelude of war. Iran in the mix with Russia and China. Doesn't look good. Lucky we were prepared and the "security update" didn't last long. But ever since the speed of internet has suffered.
But for the INTEL CPU's 13th and 14th there was nothing wrong if you had MSI board for example. MSI is Taiwan/Chinese so you have better chance it wasn't compromised. These are serious issues that creators just can't go and spill the beans because you are just going to be taken down.
      Servers/CPU's:
      INTEL 70.9%
AMD 20.5%. Both are U.S companies.
      ARM 8.1% British company.
