    Would you happen to still have the part number for the new harmonic balancer? At first I thought this part had two pulleys, but now I see that the original ring separated from the top.

      @bobthorman64  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not. I'm sorry. But that is what happens to them, the outer ring separates from the inner.

    Great video Bob, I am having an issue getting the harmonic balancer to slide out, any suggestions would be amazing. Thanks

      @bobthorman64  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jose Four Day yeah it took me a while to get it to slide off too. What happen to me was the puller would run out of threads on the drive bolt and I'd have to readjust it. If I remember correctly I had to buy a longer bolt than the kit came with.

    • @josefourday9422
      @josefourday9422 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bob Thorman I bought some as well lol. I think I just have to put the initial bolt back in to help push it out and also get a screwdriver in to stop the spinning

    I have a question that dont mss the timing or have to mark it beforw take off

    • @bobthorman64
      @bobthorman64  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Has nothing to do with the timing. Timing is controlled by the timing chain inside the motor.

    Just a question why the new one doesn't have the outer ring? It doesn't matter??

      Hopefully they have quit using the two ring design.

    Great video hey where exactly is the transmisión service hole exactly to keep it from rolling ?

    • @bobthorman64
      @bobthorman64  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a service port on the bottom of the tramission. It's up by the engine where the flywheel is.

    • @abrahamisaiah3

      I checked and it didn’t have anything maybe because is a 2005

      @@abrahamisaiah3 At 3:31 in the video it shows me inserting a screw driver into the service port in the transmission. That view is where the transmission bolts up to the motor.

      Bob Thorman I wasn’t able to find it so I used the serpentine belt stuck something so it won’t move, it worked and I was able to tourque it back on

      @@abrahamisaiah3 glad you got it done. Sorry the port wasn't there. Is yours an automatic? Maybe that's the difference. The 2008 I videoed is a manual transmission.

    What would be the problem if the outer ring part that the belt goes around came completely off I can slide it back on and drive it but it comes off again eventually. Would I be able to just buy the outer ring part or would I have to get the entire piece?

    • @bobthorman64
      @bobthorman64  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No you have to replace the harmonic balancer. That outer ring is not supposed to come apart.

    My belt comes off I replaced the tensioner, belt and pulley could it then be the Harmonic Balancer?

    • @bobthorman64
      @bobthorman64  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably so. Once they separate the belt will not track.

    I just had the same exact thing happen to me on my 07 the car just shut off while I was driving. Didn’t know what it was for a few days changed the fuel filter cleaned all the electrical clips and the coil pack . Finally checked out the crank shaft sensor and it was identical to the one in the video. They should really add that In the book under the “car will turn but won’t start” section

    I have the same model but I'm unable to locate the port underneath the car to block the flywheel. can you prove a description of where that is?

    • @bobthorman64
      @bobthorman64  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joshua Dobos from under the car you should see that there is a small slot at the bottom of the transmission where it bolts up to the flywheel. you can see the flywheel gear in there. I used a large screw driver to bind the flywheel and stop the motor from turning.

      You can also find out which way the engine rotates, set the breaker bar against the ground, then "BUMP" the key to break it loose.

    Thank you for the video! This really helped me replace my crankshaft damper / harmonic balancer on my 2008 v6 mustang. I do have a slight issue though. After everything was hooked back up, the engine hesitated to start. On the second try, it fired up and idled for 5 to 10 minutes. The idle seemed ok. I decided to go for a test drive, and noticed that my wrench light was on showing a code P0320. I shut the car off, and it will not start again. I'm having some worries go through my mind because the balancer turned a little bit while I was trying to get the bolt off. Can this throw the timing off? Did this cause any internal damage? I should also mention that the old balancer did not separate. I replaced it due to some minor engine vibration. I did not replace the crankshaft sensor as it was not damaged. The new harmonic balancer is a Ford factory part. Thank you.

    • @bobthorman64
      @bobthorman64  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unnoticed Shadow I wouldn't worry about internal problems. The timing chain should be fine. I would suspect the cranshaft sensor or harmonic balancer next. If the sensor is bad or the balancer has separated and moved like you suspect then maybe the ignition isn't firing right or not at all. That would be my next hunch.

    • @unnoticedshadow4649
      @unnoticedshadow4649 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay, thank you. I do believe it is the sensor. I just ordered a new one, and I believe that may fix the issue.

    • @unnoticedshadow4649
      @unnoticedshadow4649 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wolfgangouille After the shop replaced the computer, alternator, fuel pump, fuel filter, and spent several months diagnosing, they finally discovered that the balancer was rubbing against the crank oil seal (after I told them to take it off and inspect it). That was somehow causing an interference. After all that time, and $1000, I feel somewhat gypped by this Ford dealer, but at least it's fixed now.

    The 2 bolts for the puller need to be 5/16 about 4 - 5 1/2 in long coarse thread, preferably grade 8.8, i just cant seem to wedge a screw drive in the teeth of the flywheeel :( if its a standard trans, i should just be able to put it in 1st gear??????
