EP3 Type R Rear Speaker Swap And Rust Checking

- Fitting some ground zero 165mm speakers to the rear of my civic type r and having a check for rust as its usually quite bad behind there.

Just replaced the rear speakers in my USDM EP3 Civic SI (build in Swindon, UK). Was able to line up the new Pioneer speakers with 2 of the 3 holes from the stock ones. Seems sturdy enough, didn't bother drilling any extra holes.

holy shit fk that's crazy it comes from roof think I was only looking to fit speakers that has shockt me get that sorted before fitting speaker..but great video dude liked it
the holes where the side skirts are clipped in I think is mostly where it comes from. I had it all chopped out and new metal welded in last year so its all fixed and undersealed now. worth saving an ep3 as they are going up in value a little bit each year.

I was a bit shocked how bad mine is. 93k miles all previous owners were older than 50 😢
@@1BlueGhost its honda themselves the uk is 100x worse then Japan when it comes to salty roads.... Be persistent take it to a body shop in the future get it sorted properly. These cars will be worth a fortune in the future
thanks for this mate just found similiar but not as bad surface rust. did you get yours cut out or treated?
no not yet, a lot of it wiped away and just looked worse than it was. Im hoping to get it sorted early next year and get the rest of the car undersealed and treated as well.
I believe it’s quite a common place for rust especially on the facelift ep3
@@1BlueGhost after looking at mine and discussing it with a bodywork place it's already around a grand if anything has gone through to the outer ie under the skirt side. so might want to get it done quicker as it will get bad pretty quick with the age of the cars now buddy.
@@otacon4065 yep it needs attention, and hopefully early next year. In the process of selling my other car so that should give me some money to get it sorted. I aim to keep the honda for quite a while so its worth sorting it properly.

How would you describe the bass from these speakers, front and back? Is it wholesome or just punchy?
Sid Mahmood I wouldn’t say they have masses of bass, maybe be better with 6x9’s in the shelf.
Hi, is your speakers are connected to amplifier or directly to head unit?
Just to the head unit. I may fit an amp and subwoofer at a later date

And I'm wondering is my Pioneer DEH-S520BT will handle it. Some says speakers play flat without amp, only high and some medium, poor midbass. Is it true? What are your impressions as a user. Thank you a lot for help.
MrZeel75 I have a kenwood dmx7017dabs. The speakers are definitely an improvement over the stock items, although yes an amp would be better. My original ones distorted really badly so that was my reason to change them.
Hi mate, are the speaker adaptor plug same for the fronts.
Unsure, I know you can buy them for the fronts as well though. Think they are listed on eBay

Not sure actually. Need to have a look underneath, although when I did it all looked alright.
Just remove the rear plastics out
Think I’ve seen someone else suggest doing with a wire brush then spraying in the anti rust spray (jelolite I think it’s called) - not a thorough job but maybe enough to stop it taking hold
I’ve seen similar suggestions yeah you wipe some stuff on and it’s supposed to get rid of the rust. It’s definitely worth a try I think.
